They had worked up good report, when de gendt went other day countering mvdp's move biniam was going to bridge but no way they bring him to the line or they do and last 2ks just each guy takes flyer so e smartly sat up for vdp because either they both bridged and pushed on to finish together or games. Also waiting for vdp when he went wrong way another classy move two or three guys attacked and vdp brought it back himself. Shame he's pulling out told you when he opens up he's got legs for long distance sprint so smooth so much like Sagan in a lot of ways and at 21. Peter was shorter bit punchier but both so smooth just keep pedaling when others reach lactate threshold

Thought I'd put in a word for the rider who really was instrumental in putting Africa on the European Pro Cycling scene and that was another Eritrean who rode for MTN-Qhubeka 2014-2017 named Daniel Teklehaimanot. He won the Mountain category in the Criterium du Dauphine in 2015 and 2016 and he even held the polka dot jersey in the 2015 Tour de France for 4 stages. I think Covid slowed the momentum that Teklehaimanot started for his African brothers. Hopefully Biniam's showing in this Giro will re-ignite the Pro Cycling momentum for riders from Africa. Absolutely stunning, both the stage and Chris Horner's analysis and presentation. I have been on the fence regarding both Binion Girmay and moreso MVDP. After this, I am all in for each of them. Congratulations to Bin - he is an exciting talent heralding a cycling presence from a continent that will prove a boon to worldwide cycling. MVDP won me over with that spectacular effort and classy display of mutual respect for what Binion did - that is true individual sportsmanship demonstrated to the world. Great commentary Chris - I think MVDP went a bit early in the final sprint plus he did a huge amount of work without team mates in the last 10km. On the rest day Alpecin-Deceuninck as they are now known & no longer Alpecin-Fenix, announced they have applied to become a WT team from next year and as such then they have to contest all 3 Grand Tours and need to think like a GT team and put together a GT team - really need climbers on the roster!. I'm not sure MVDP himself is a GT winner (he is too big to be a top level climber) but he should be a focus of the A-D team for winning stages like this and that means he needs a at at least two dedicated top level rouleurs who can stick with him to support him right to the stage end and act like a flat sprint train does. They can help keep him out the wind when as today we repeatedly saw absolutely no other team will work with him but they all marked him. The rouleurs can also provide rolling attacks on direct competitors (like Girmay) so as to tire them out by having to chase down constantly.
@D0nKeY2 жыл бұрын

@@D0nKeY Yes Girmay went first at around 350m and MvdP was on his wheel which was great until he decided to come around and pass Girmay and was overtaking alongside and then suddenly his legs ran out 10m short of the line. Hindsight is easy but you have to conclude MvdP went too early.
@WanderingSword2 жыл бұрын
MVDP was thoroughly cracked way before 10m to go. MVDP had never suffered such a crack like this in the closing meters of any sprint that he's ever been in until today. MVDP's salute of Bini should be an indication of how much respect he had for Bini's sprint, and how much MVDP had spent in the sprint. To say MVDP went too early (and thus the reason he lost) would be a slap in the face of Bini, and MVDP himself would ever make such argument. Sheesh.

Thank you Chris. I really enjoy watching your shows. I also enjoyed watching you during your racing career. Well done. Chapeau sir, Chapeau

What baffels me in the international proffesional racing is the lack of signs showing directions and clear showings of the correct path. Here in Sweden we have arrows on signs that shows the way in races for non pros. Very very strange that a circuit with millions of euro in reveneue does not mark the race path properly.
@ChrisHornerCycling2 жыл бұрын
Normally it’s marked well. But the tv angles are hard to tell today at that moment so couldn’t say if it was or not. 🤔🦋

Psyched for all the Eritrean fans who have really been turning out for Bini. Reminds me of the Colombians and Chaves a few years back. Good patriotic fandom.

Mate!!Cycling is like a religion in Eritrea.It is one of the most popular sports and it has a long history tradition.I don't know why it took us this long to reach at this stage but here it begins.Bini has done it and there are so many young Eritreans who are more hungrier to accomplish such miracle.Mark my word this is just the begining!!

I'd say Caleb Ewan is prepping the road for his departure without the bad press he got last time when he left the Giro. 1 last massive training/survive ride can't hurt his pre tour prep.

I believe Bini is making pro cycling to go par with the European football leagues. This is a great advertisement for cycling. Because 6 million Eritreans and other millions of other Africans who never were watching the sport before are following the giro d’italia like the World Cup football.

Certainy bro.I agree with u 200%.So Bini has opened the door.He proved to all young African riders everything is possible .if there is a need there is always a way.As long as u have a strong faith in yourself then half the race is won.Right now 6 million of Eritreans as well as cycling fans from all the world will cheer up Biniam to do more !

Chris, I love your passion and energy. Stage 10 of the Jiro, what a day! Just hear to this great telecaster calling the race at Eurosport. It is what the Roman emperor said: Veni! Vidi! Bini! That is, I came; I saw; I conquered!

@@mac9954 I’ve been thinking about this comment all day. He was at the pointy end of a long hard stage at the Giro. Leading out with 300m to go. When you have been there doing that, and can speak from actual experience, then you can have an opinion such as that. Otherwise it’s probably a good time to delete your comment about now.
