A big round of applause for your courage! I’m 64 with 3 late 20s daughters. I’ve worked in corporate my entire working life; we didn’t have a lot of options when I was in my 20s. I’ve encouraged my daughters to switch careers when and if they are not enjoying them; life is a series of zigs and zags. Do it when you’re young. As a famous hockey player once said: “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.

I just did this too. I quit a job (dream job) that I worked so hard for and ended up in a deep depression. But since I left my mental health has gotten better. Life is about constantly figuring it out and that will come with making mistakes and learning from them.

@tapiocapress thanks you. That’s the same for me as well. I’m sure it’s the same for anyone because sometimes we spend so much time doing this job and one of the first things people ask us when they meet us is “what do you do for work” We’re so used to doing the same habit that it naturally becomes part of us that is hard to shed off if it doesn’t feel right. Take care!

You are not alone! I had what I thought was my dream job, and before a year had even passed I was so burnt out and miserable and hating my life. They had a mass layoff after 9 months and I was so grateful when I found out that I had been impacted. It was like the universe had answered my prayers

I never comment. I just found this video, and I related enough to click on it. I'm a 33 year old solo mum of two. I quit my 6 figure corporate job 2 years ago to be home with my girls. I took a year off, and now I'm working casually in a creative job I love. Money is tight, but we get by, and now my time is spent with my children and pursuing my creative passions. No more burnout. No more juggling. It will work out for you, just keep doing what you're doing. You've already done the hardest thing 😉 xx

I finally quit my job after realizing I was choosing money over my happiness. The only reason I was staying was because every year my salary was increasing and I was doubting I would ever make the same amount of money. But my life was passing me by and I didn’t have a single moment of memory besides having kids and working during those years. I feel like the US is the only place where if you don’t work your whole life changes and we choose money over living. You got this and like I tell my sister take your time and don’t rush into another job. Find a job you truly love.

Before you go and quit, please understand that most careers we will likely never truly enjoy because we not only are working for money, but are usually working for someone else. I work in IT, but ever since I was a kid I wanted to be an artist and it's been a constant regret that I never went down that path. However...after following a great artist on twitch and hearing about the day to day corporate life even when you are an artist!...was an absolute drag and I knew for sure if I was an artist working for a company it would absolutely remove any sense of joy or fun that I've always had when it comes to making art.

Love this content ! I left corporate summer of 2020 or rather was released from corporate. It was frightening financially but it just felt correct even though my ego was bruised. I’m living more simply too. Food and beverage at home. Left NYC which is wildly overpriced. I walk or ride a bike over having a car or taking a cab in a less expensive city. The universe finds creative ways to fund my life. I had to learn how to surrender, trust the universe and allow the magic in and around me. Cheering for all of us !!! 🎉

Make sure you save enough before you do! I didn’t 😢. I went from banking to starting my own gardening business. I didn’t get any customers for most of the season, but now things are picking up. It’s the freedom you have that’s important, BUT, you have to, at the start, work harder than you ever have, until things get going. I can’t tell you the amount of times I almost…gave up…yeah, THAT giving up…

I’m in the same spot. I’m really trying to grow the streams I’m most passionate about, selling art prints and portrait photography. I just feel so foggy and unmotivated but I’m fighting through it! Just got my art prints in another business and am putting them in another tomorrow! The biggest thing that’s helped me is journaling. I try to write 3 pages a day in my journal and it’s really helped me sort out my thoughts and true wants in life. I have one page I’ve been dumping “All the things I would do if I had the time” and just looked back at it after a month. Some things I wanted to do so badly I’d written them multiple times without noticing. Things become clearer when you can see the underlying messages you write to yourself. I took the journaling habit more seriously when I started the “Artist’s Way” book, it’s a good read/workbook for creative expression and growth.

Fellow ex-employee from big 4 and holyfrick the burnout you feel goes all the way down into your bones. It was something that was so difficult to explain to others around me because they would just ask 'but why... you work more than us, sure, but you have the rest of your day after that?' I quit, changed jobs and ended up in a even worse burnout elsewhere and am now doing the unemployment dance and contemplating content creation. Thank you for sharing your journey so far, it really hit home and has been super inspiring!

My life without a job, which was over 10 years ago now: First two months I just went on walks. I was kind of elated because I wasted my 20s working this stupid job for a small business owner I kind of hated and didn't respect. Once I caught up on sleep and decompressed, I started taking computer programming classes and tutoring other students. That was a lot of fun and I was super motivated because it was the first time I was doing something that was my idea for my benefit, so I studied well and got A+ grades. After six months of that I got an offer for what turned out to be kind of a dumb job that now I've been doing for 11 years at 3 companies. I make 150k and most of the time I don't have to work much so there's that (I'm on the clock now but no one wants me to do anything so...cool). I'm going to walk downtown and get a burrito just to make sure I see other people today. It's kind of weird but it's chill enough and I'm certainly not starving so...whatever.

This video inspired me to create a video about the great resignation. It took me about 6 months to create this on top of my full-time job, setting aside at least 4x of 1 hr workout per week, cooking healthy foods that take hours to prepare, rejecting so many night outs just to spend more time pursuing my passion while having so many people discourage me from creating meaningful videos online like this channel. As you can tell, personal development isn’t a joke because there are so many sacrifices to be made, which are often uncomfortable but knowing that there are also so many like-minded individuals who have passion for becoming a better version of themselves each day and who are willing to show support makes me more motivated to keep pursuing my passion for creativity and intense desire to provide as much value as I could. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to have a career that pays well so I can buy whatever I want but now that I’m grown up and went through tons of setbacks from losing tons of people in my life, getting lost in the world with full of life traps, being ridiculed for pursuing my dreams, having so many people tell me that I’m merely wasting my time creating a meaningful content online, and so on, I can say that long-lasting happiness can’t be bought or earned because it comes from within us

I just found you and WOW. I am here for the long haul - you are so real, raw, and your editing style is on FLEEK. I just did the same move from corporate to full time content creator a month ago!!!! ITS A CRAZY DIFFERENCE!

this video really found me! i've been thinking of quitting to pursue creative endeavours for forever but the stress of saving and COL increasing keeps pushing that back, everything you've said in this really helped me get a better outlook on what comes after though so thank you for this!! im even more motivated

Evelyn! Haven't seen one of your videos in a while so I was happy to see this pop up in my feed. I'm also ~6 months into my adult gap year (quitting corporate) and found this video to be so relatable. It's truly a humbling experience to be a little bit off of the mainstream and have to figure out how to navigate it all. The question I get asked most by my friends is what I do all day which definitely also can and has led to self doubt. But I've found that so far one of the most interesting parts of this experience is developing the confidence in myself as a person and not just being defined by my job or work. Cheering you on, girl~

i want to thank you for sharing your journey! i quit my corporate job a month ago. i don't have as much saved up, but it was killing my soul. it really warms me and allows me to feel less alone knowing that others feel similarly about the corporate work place, and find ways to make it work outside of it, even when they don't have it all fully "figured out." perhaps going through life IS figuring it out, rather than overthinking a plan and watching it all change as we go through it anyway. you're doing great, and you're wonderful!

thank you so much for sharing, I'm so glad to have found your channel! I relate with everything you're sharing and am also going through pretty much the exact same thought processes right now while working in corporate. The burnout, debilitating self-doubt, and hopelessness is real -- but I truly believe that working towards something meaningful rather than being a cog in the wheel will lead to a more fulfilling life!

Thank you so much for sharing! I just came across your video and it brought so much comfort! I am also 29 and I recently quit my corporate job because of a burn out. I have always loved filming and editing videos, and I wanted to continue doing this full time but I have a lot of insecurities in terms of my future and I was pondering between risking making content full time or going back to corporate. Watching your video made me feel like I was not the only one going through this! You just got a new subscriber and a new fan! Rooting for you! 🥰

This video came at SUCH a good time for me. It's so refreshing to have a vlog from someone in their late 20s first off, and I absolutely love your honesty. I really related to you saying about how tired you were after work, but also that you were privileged to be in the position you are to be able to do something about that. You really recognise what real life is like and you are so down to earth!! I can't wait to see what other videos you do! Hope you're having a great day, and I wish you all the subscribers and success xxxx

I tried explaining to my boyfriend and family that even though I am sitting all day on a computer, after work I am debilitated mentally and physically. they would say just go outside, cook some food, or play games. when I come home just the thought of having to do it all over again and again makes me incapable of thinking and doing anything else. cooporate burnout is real and we are in a paycheck to paycheck chokehold because not working is looked down upon. thank u

i love ur videos and the calmness of them and u have helped me not be too stressed abt my own situation (19 and not attending college/ not working) just basically trying to figure myself out and i feel as if im lacking behind all my other friends that are in college and pursuing internships, clubs, etc. thankfully i have supportive family that isnt rushing me into finding a job or going back to college (a privilege not everyone is able to have) and u have helped me realize how its okay to not have stuff figured out :)
