A Day In The Life Of A Law Student! -April 2021

Enjoy watching what a day in the life of a law student with a family during covid-19 might look like!
At the time this video was taken (April 2021), Derick was a 3L, partway through finals at the University of Arkansas School of Law. He graduated the next month!
With most covid restrictions still in place, law students aren't on campus much, so most days are spent studying from home and occasionally a coffee shop. Some days the online classes are live, while other days the classes are pre-recorded with meetings and assignments throughout the day.
Some days start earlier and keep a tighter schedule, not allowing for quite as much flexibility. Other days, Derick might study part of the day, then work some of the day running Grub Hub (food delivery service) calls.
This day was a little less diverse than some and mostly spent studying antitrust law since finals were halfway over...+ we chose a day for this video that was a little more flexible to accommodate filming.

The dog sleeps in the garage then is alone outside. Fenna will calm down if she is regularly included with the family bc then seeing everyone won't be such a huge deal for her. Training her is great but the constant isolation is not.

Agree. The poor dog sleeping in the garage where carbon monoxide builds up not to mention the cold and the heat. He deserves to be a part of the family Hopefully they have realized that he deserves lots of love and to be included in the family and home. Not isolated

Just a little tip, drinking ice water in the morning will wake you up just as well if not better than a cold shower. Your internal organs respond to the increased circulation from cold water better than your skin does. Save yourself the discomfort lol

I agree. Been an ice cold water drinker for a decade or so and enjoy a cup of coffee on a rare occasion because I love the taste. I also wet a facecloth with very cold water to wash my face before I jump in the shower. Works great!

Cold shower activates the vagus nerve. It's actually very healthy for the body.

Unfortunately very cold water is not the best for the stomach, plus cold showers are way more effective in waking you up in my opinion.

At least you guys are together all day long. I only see my hubby 3 hours a day. He works so far, we just moved, we had no choice. So just the fact you guys see each other in the morning is such a blessing, the fact that you guys can see each other during the day period is a blessing. I love how you guys share chore responsibilities.

I love that you guys are taking care of the dog but please be careful with the dog sleeping in the garage. With no airflow and the hot heat the garage can get way hotter than it even is outside and could be very dangerous for the dog.....makes me worried. Otherwise I love you guys!

A good tip for the cold showering thing is just turning the cold on at the end, so you can still have a comfortable shower but when you're going to get out, you get that refreshing hit.

Yes!! The 1ST time Derrick called Fenna to come eat outside, I noticed when she got to the her food,, she didn’t start eating. Instead, she went right up to Derrick for attention and affection!! That came 1ST for her!!! So I do believe even though she gets attention, she really craving more interaction with them. Some people just don’t allow their dogs or cats in the house, so I guess they are of that mind. Myself, I am a total animal lover, so I have to say it does bother me some that she does not get to come into the house.

I think the dog has had trouble with peeing, but yeah, i wonder if the garage has ac? Many don’t. Maybe they can put the crate in the kitchen. Still, they are doing pretty good with learning

I LOVED law school...granted, I graduated in 1996 so I didn’t have to deal with a pandemic, but I loved learning and the Socratic method of learning. I HATED the bar exams (I took Missouri and Illinois) and since laptops weren't allowed when I did the bar exams, my writing hand was swollen and sore for days after the essay portions.

I really admire, respect and love you two. I worked for attorneys for over 20 years. It is tough going to law school, but to have a family involved also, you have a balance and a rigid schedule. Jill, I hate to be critical but I'm so concerned about Fenna sleeping in the garage. That poor baby was an orphan when you met her and she'll feel so much more secure sleeping near her family. Couldn't you put her crate in your bedroom or in the boys' bedroom with a nice soft bed inside? Maybe leave the crate door open so she can sleep in the crate voluntarily?

My daughter went to law school and I remember the constant study. It was so worth it though. Hang in there! Your dog is lonely and wants human attention. I feel so sorry that she didn’t quite make it as part of the family. Poor baby.

It is so sweet how Derrick brought Jill her coffee.❤❤ Little thoughtful things like that mean a lot! Fenna is doing so great with her training! Consistency is so important! It is great that you spend a good amount of time with Fenna on training and playing with the boys teaching them to be gentle with her and vice versa! They will be best friends growing up. Many families will get a high-energy dog, put it outside without training or socialization and then wonder why they bark and dig. It is like having another child. They are work! But you have to sweep the kitchen floor less; you have a built-in vacuum! If you really like lasagna, the best is Costco's beef/pork lasagna. It comes in a pack of 2 trays and it cooks in the microwave in about 25 minutes. It is delicious (much more flavorful than Stouffers). It does have some spice to it though. Give it a try if you get a chance!

@@andreafelton689 your right they are not all created equal....Mine does use force but is gentle and in 20 yrs never have been hurt.He is very good..And with him there is no need to go several times a week as others do because he adjusts it right the first time...There are so many people who could have been saved from having surgery only to find out they were worse off if only they found a good chiropractor.

I couldn't study while somebody was massaging my shoulders & my scalp, because it makes me so relaxed I'm almost falling asleep. Lol. Also it is so very important for couples to spend alone time together when you Have young children. It's so easy to get caught up in just focusing on the kids, and push the marriage on back burner, then the marriage suffers.
