I remember when i had the city in, inspecting my inspection point due to roots on their side of the line... he head guy bent over to hear them banging on the main sewer lid after the cleaned out the roots, if they could hear a main blockage... his work phone fell from his shirt pocket, and straight down the inspection point... I thought of that moment when i watched this video. Great video like always

Every time I watch one of your videos I'm half a heartbeat away from telling my wife that I need to close up shop for a bit and head to Western Australia to help out my pal, Bruce. Bruce, might I suggest a tether of some sort for your phone? Not one of those wrist strap tethers either. Some phone cases come with a point on the corner for the wrist strap, so a key ring on that and some sort of clasp on a long piece of cord or twine. This way if you drop us down the pipe, you can pull us back up! Well, that would be one helluva front row seat, wouldn’t it? Anyway, I’m slowly catching up on these videos.

How do you know where the junctions are? In buffalo,ny, we can call the water dept to find the location of the water box. Usually the vent clean out is along the same line. Makes life easier. I tell the owner to keep the location of the cleanout on a paper near the sewer line to make it easier for the next guy to find the cleanout on the lawn. You ask why. When there is 3 feet of snow on the lawn, i tell people, find the vent and then call me. I refuse to shovel snow off the lawn looking for the vent. It is their job to know where it is.

G'Day Bruce! There is no better way to spend a cloudy afternoon than to watch your videos. Mr. Gunn did a fine job punching a hole in those nasty roots to allow for that beautiful whirlpool as the house drain unloaded its backed up contents (just like someone who has taken a potent laxative). That root cutter sings a beautiful song as it goes about its work. Now, did someone tell you where to find that inspection shaft, or did you have a map or plan to follow? It seems strange that something so important would be hidden out of sight.

I bet they split that junction when they were compacting the sand for the pavers. Why they would cover over a shaft like that is bewildering. You should always have those brought up to grade in the event you ever need to have a cleanout. Plus that would prevent damage like that.
