I remember my ww2 vet RN PO telling me about an RN medic’s job after being bombed by the Luftwaffe. The medic was tasked with the awful job of recovering a sailors’s body from under the forecastle of his destroyer...probably off Crete early 40s.

I had a medic attend to me whilst serving on a Sub in the late 70's.......6 stitches in my index finger no local anesthetic.......Sadistic sod LOL

Do navy medics do any sort of humanitarian stuff or is it always on board a ship?

They do everything. Some RN Medics will complete the All Arms Commando Course and will serve alongside Royal Marine Units or UK Special Forces Medical Group.
