Damn! You make want to work in IT, lately I've been really depressed about finding something that I enjoy doing as a career. I was interested in UX and UI Design but never really got into it because I'm quite shy and intreoverted, and although I've always been creative & empathetic (both of these seem important in product design) I didn't want to step out of my comfort zone... Well to be honest you put a smile on my face, the working environment seems sweet and I feel like I could just fit in. Thank you for that, now I have to watch all of your videos ;)

Are you kidding me? Minus the dog pics this video was all fluff and morning routines. The first several minutes were of the UX designer getting out of bed, eating breakfast, and reading a book. The only relevant part of the morning routine is what time you have to wake up to get to work on time. The whole point of a "day in the life of [JOB TITLE HERE]" is to see what the job is like; Nobody cares if you drink Matcha tea.

Until I had my internship as a graphic designer in a marketing services company. I could say we have similar days. A few days we'd just have meetings, and yes sometimes ALL DAY LONG. But now I got a job as a software engineer, and it's cool to understand both sides of the project. Thanks for the amazing content! Gonna subscribe so I could watch more :)

I just started getting into UX and website designing for a dropshipping store and a blog. I had a client ask if I can create a website for her, so I kind of just dove headfirst into web design by doing a bunch of research. She is my first client, and since then I’ve only experimented with my own website. I love finding videos like this because I’ve been working from home on my websites for 6 months now. My previous job was in the military (only 3 years-I was injured). It helps me to understand what home projects I can work on as a freelancer, how to work a job like yours from home, or finding out about jobs like yours to see what else I can start doing for income. And most importantly - since I’m still a newbie in web designing - those “how to” videos.

I am a graphic design student, living in another country. And all these insecurities are always in my hand, about if I know enough to get a proper job If my English is good enough and so it goes on. Thanks for sharing this video with your routine, it somehow makes me way more excited about finishing uni and finding my place in the design business and it doesn't feel that scary anymore! Wish you all the success!

Oh my gosh Mariana, thanks for sharing your story! Just know, you're not alone in your insecurities, so don't let them hold you back :) I'm glad my video is inspiring you to finish up university and follow your dreams to become a designer. I'm not sure if you follow linguamarina on KZbin or Instagram already, but she's a good friend of mine and makes videos about learning languages and living in the Silicon Valley -- lots of good stuff. Good luck! And remember, you have all the power in the world to make this all this happen for you.

Very entertaining and Informative video - especially about searching for a product designer role. The food perks look awesome - probably the best part, right? How does someone typically enter a product designer role? There are many bootcamps out there, Master Degrees in Human Computer Interaction, etc. I got a BA in psychology and a background in retail sales - To break into the tech world of product design / UX / UI, what would you recommend for someone in my position ??
@HelloImAlexa5 жыл бұрын
Thanks John!! I wouldn't say the food perks are the BEST part haha but it is really nice to have the support of the company to provide us with a variety of healthy food options. For someone in your position, it may still look good to look into both options. You may want to try taking an intro level UX/Interaction design course before taking anything longer form to make sure it's what you're looking for. I'm a huge advocate for university/design school programs but there's a lot of good online bootcamp programs now. I made a video about bootcamps that I would recommend checking out too. I put my general take on how to approach online education over there. Good luck! :)

Heyyy Aleksander -- there are a lot of folks in the UX Design space with psychology and business backgrounds. I think more UX Researchers come from psychology though. Only you know what's best for you though, good luck!

So cool! I’m thinking about changing career paths as a producer designer. But I’m quite introverted - do you think that that could be a challenge in this line of work?
@HelloImAlexa5 жыл бұрын
I think both extroverted and introverted can do any job they want, it just comes down to having a different strategy when it comes to managing your energy.

Thanks so much!! I can't say specifically because I don't have the exact data on what you're asking but I do know the design community cares deeply about the importance of bringing people together with different backgrounds in order to solve problems. This drives a lot of hiring teams in the Bay Area.

Very nice video! I have a bachelor in cognitive science and I'm planning to maybe read 1 year of interaction design (Ux design). But I want to be artsy too because I really like to be creative with both images, video, words, music etc. Do you think it is a good way? As a Ux designer, can one work with User interface and product design much as well? And maybe even some copywriter-tasks (so I've read)? Keep it up! :) thanks

Great video Alexa. I'm trying to move my career in this direction (studied graphic design / marketing at SJSU, currently work marketing/graphic design at a startup). Any recommendations on how to best pivot into PD/UX? I am interested in the upcoming low-cost Google UX certificate and plan to do that. I'd rather not pay for another degree, ideally. Or should I take on projects for low-cost for portfolio pieces, so I have a strong narrative and portfolio, if I already have some design fundamentals? What do I do to bolster myself into this pivot? Really appreciate any help you may be able to offer. Thanks.
@HelloImAlexa4 жыл бұрын
Hello! You can check out my website for my favorite low cost / free resources: alexaleighh.com/resources Since you already have a background in design, I think you may find the transition to be smoother than for those who don't come from a design background. That said, it still may take and cost money. Unless you go the completely self taught route, then you may need to pay for some courses or programs which can help guide you into creating work you can use to put into your portfolio. I'd recommend looking into Design Lab's mini courses for something lower cost. I've linked them on the website I just linked. Hope that helps!

So what did you major in in college? And like did you have any credentials or internships before applying to jobs? Was it hard getting a job as a designer? Thanks!

Hi there, I studied Graphic Design in College. I got into UX Design while I was there. I did about 3 UX Design internships before graduating. I worked really hard and I put myself out there in order to create important professional relationships. Getting any sort of job will be hard but it's worth it.
