That day, we had to file a line, admission letter in our right hand, and look straight. There were like five NYS troopers just yelling at us from the top of their lungs. @@JimyOfficial Yes, mostly. There were approximately 10 questions about mile marker signs. They were 10 free questions in my opinion. I found this to be very odd and generally useless in determining someone's aptitude for police work. On the uniform trooper side their job is mostly traffic oriented so maybe that is why. This was in the early 1990s so no idea what it might be like now. Municipal police exams were much more difficult than the trooper exam was.

Texas DPS are lame compared to NYSP. Texas DPS also wear those silly cowboy hats that don't look professional at all. NYS Troopers wear stetsons which look a lot more professional. Additionally, every element of NYSP's uniform is due to some historical significance. For example, the NYSP wear hats with a purple band, as well as a purple tie. This is supposed to portray them as an "elite unit" or "the best of the best" as the Roman Praetorian Guard also wore Purple to show they were the elite. The black stripe on the pants also portrays impartiality. Texas DPS are lame in comparison.
