I spent multiple days there as a child at a cottage owned by friends of my grandparents. Caught some really nice fish out of that lake.

I grew up going to this lake at Wendt Pt. My grandfather's grandfather built the cottage that may or may not still be there... It was my biggest dream to take it over some day from them but they have since sold. I miss this place every day.

Now I know how Honeoye is pronounced. I had wondered for years.

I agree with your take. The southern end is particularly striking, the hills being among the steepest and most prominent in the FLX. I so enjoy driving along Honeoye down to Naples, incredibly beautiful. It is also interesting that Honeoye has wetlands at both northern and southen ends, both of which contain a lot of public land and with great wetland restoration work completed. The wetlands at the northern end contain boardwalks but it was closed this past summer (I think renovation is required)… I had walked it a few years ago and loved it. The entire area of Honeoye, Canadice, and Hemlock, extending to the southern end of Canandaigua, I consider as the wild FLX, for obvious reasons… it’s my fav.

Me too! It's such a beautiful area and, incredibly, still mostly unknown, even to people from the region. I was down at Sandy Bottom at the northern end of Honeoye just a couple of weeks ago and didn't think to check if the boardwalk had reopened yet. I'll have to do so the next time I visit. Last time I was on it (late 2021) it was looking like it could use some repairs.

@@fingerlakesexplorers I think it’s known a bit in Rochester, Harriet Hollister seems to be well known for skiing due it’s elevation and now I often see mountain bikers, but it is quiet and easy to find solitude. FYI at that Honeoye overlook, you can also see downtown Rochester on a clear day… I wonder if Lake Ontario is ever visible.

I didn't know that! I'll have to look closer the next time I head up there and see if I can spot either.
