IMHO these questions aren't that hard. I don't get the outcry in comments. I graduated high school 14 years ago in Lithuania and can still answer these questions from intuition that I had built long time ago and I didn't even studied hard in school. If you study too hard you just not gonna succeed. From what I'm reading it's not necessary to answer all questions perfectly. I think what is necessary here is to figure out what exactly is important to you and focus on those key areas. If you are getting into science fields these math and physics questions shouldn't scare you at all. And if you're getting into literature then it's not necessary to do well on math/physics questions.

You should take a look at LGS too, it's the exam that every child takes when they have graduated from middle school. And it's very very hard. In fact a math question from lgs this year was actually taken from the University exam of turkey which is weird. They're literally forcing students to solve university level questions at age 13-14

I took this exam with all the other students. It was incredibly hard and also has a time limit put in place so you can't even go down many avenues before time runs out. This is an exam for 12th graders, it felt like the Olympics.

AYT is on of the second stages of the whole YKS system. The first stage is TYT (Temel Yeterlik Testi - Fundamental Proficiency Test) and it consists of 120 questions to be answered in 135 minutes. The content of the test is as follows: Turkish Language - 40 questions History - 5 Questions Geography - 5 Questions Philosophy - 5 Questions Religion - 5 Questions Maths - 40 Questions Physics - 7 Questions Chemistry - 7 Questions Biology - 6 Questions All questions are weighed equally in scoring and make up a score type called TYT. There two second stage tests: (1) AYT (Alan Yeterlik Testi - Field Proficiency Test), which is used for 3 other score types and (2) YDT (Yabancı Dil Testi - Foreign Language Test), which is used for a 5th score type. The score types are made up of 40% TYT and 60% AYT/YDT. The Score Types are as follows TYT - 100% TYT tests - Used for associate degree programs. SAY (SAYISAL)(Maths & Science) - Used for undergraduate programs which primarily focus on mathematics and science: The medicinal programs (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursery etc), engineering programs, science and research programs, mathematics and statistics programs, etc. SÖZ (SÖZEL)(Social Sciences) - Used for undergraduate programs which primarily focus on social sciences and literature: History, Geography (???), Religion, Communication, Public Relations, Advertisement, Cinema, Media, Gastronomy (???), etc. EA (EŞİT AĞIRLIKLI)(Equally Weighted Language and Mathematics) - Used for undergraduate programs which primarily focus on literature and mathematics: Business, Economics, Law, Psychology (???), Philosophy (???), Politics (???), etc. DİL (YABANCI DİL)(Foreign Languages) - Used for undergraduate programs which primarily focus on foreign languages: Literature (English, German, French, Arabic, Persian, Korean, Japan, China), Translation, Teaching, Tourist Guidance etc. Among AYT's the four tests, combinations of two tests, are used for three score types and those score types determine your eligibility for a certain majors. For instance, SAY (which short for SAYISAL, which is equivalent of SCIENCE and MATH) is scored according to your success in MATHS and SCIENCE tests, both of which have 40 questions. Thus, if you are a SAY student, you are supposed to solve 80 questions in 180 minutes. The three score types for AYT and their compatible tests are as follows: SAY - SAYISAL - MATHS (40) & SCIENCE (40) SÖZ - SÖZEL - SOCIAL SCIENCE (40) & LITERATURE (40) EA - EŞİT AĞIRLIKLI - MATHS (40) & LITERATURE (40) DİL score type's second stage requirement is YDT (Foreign Language Test), which consists of 80 questions and 120 minutes are provided for answering. As you can see some undergraduate programs under the EA score type has little to do with mathematics and literature. That's why the literature test also contains HISTORY and GEOGRAPHY sub-tests, within those 40 questions. As there are further more questions in the social science test, SÖZ students solve different sets of HISTORY and GEOGRAPHY tests, all with the same curricular content. (I know it sounds stupid, but that's how it is in our country.) If you go further into the final score computation process, you'll have much more fun. A regular student with average mathematics knowledge and skills cannot compute his/her score without aid. In most cases, even the regular school counselor cannot make those computations and is forced to use external websites. The most horrific of all, as you can see above, some score types and the undergraduate programs matched with them, are not always in line with each other. For example, if you want to go for psychology major, you are supposed to solve Turkish Literature, History, Geography and Mathematics but not psychology and sociology. Same goes for archaeology. Moreover, in order to be an archaeologist, you are not supposed to know science, according to the exam and past year statistics. When the placement of students end, each university and program is listed with the lowest scored enrollment and this score is called TABAN PUAN (BASE SCORE) for that specific program in that university. Those lists are used by the following years candidates to make their placement preference lists. But you have to take an exam called TYT and you have to answer all questions. (Turkish language, social science, math and science) There is 120 questions and only 145m. You have 1,2m to answer each question. I took the exam for only test myself and i spend my whole time in math and science. I only answered 25 question in math and i have a good score.

English Literatue major here, I took TYT-YDT in 2019 and got completely obliterated by math. I got 10/40 but I managed to get into one of the top universities by acing YDT. Just focus on your language and the other subjects on TYT.

Do you really have to solve ALL of the questions? Pretty sure most students don't solve all questions and survive just fine especially if you don't enter science fields. While math and physics might not be necessary for literature students in fact Literature+Math+Physics is actually a necessary combination for strong science programs considering that good writing skill is necessary in order to write science papers in combination to having math and physics and analytical thinking necessary to work on the problems.

Wow, that is a very interesting comment xyachbela. This style of examination is very old fashioned here in Australia where I and Tibees live. Incredibly difficult exams are designed for rote learning and memorising all your text-books, whereas in Australia the education system was reconfigured to teach students how to reason, and whilst we still have text books, our education system puts a lot of weight on teaching young people how to think and formulate a response. It's not perfect but we always score highly on the PISA lists. With your comment in mind, I now understand why so many Brazilians now live here in Australia. Prior to 15 years ago I had never met a Brazilian, but now there's a large Brazilian diaspora living here and it's great.

As a Turkish person who really studied for this exact exam, I can confirm that as public school students we weren't prepared for these kind of questions at all. They never taught us pigeonhole principle. Never. I was literally shaking during this exam because it was far above our curriculum level. (idk about anyone else but this question was actually one of the several questions I could actually solve) They really screwed us over. In fact just seeing this questions triggered me, you know in Turkey, the university exam is *everything* Now even tough I studied hard my whole high school years, I am in a place I never wanted to be in. the main problem is exam duration, you have only 1min per question in first exam, and approx. 2,3 in second one. When you consider the difficulty level of questions, this time is not enough. Students mostly prepare themselves for competing with time, not for only exam content.

IMHO these were pretty interesting and not that hard questions. Having multi-choice options makes it a lot easier to answer quickly - by far the slowest part of solving problems is validating correctness of the solution. Also having just 4 options there often exists backwards solutions where instead of trying to find the correct value you take the value and work backwards to validate if it could be correct - which often is lot faster. I don't get what's the big deal. I finished high school some 14 years ago in Lithuania and we had math and physics problems that were harder than what's here, that said, we had more time to work on problems too.

I’m a foreigner student in Turkey and my Turkish is not very good. Schools here are really hard and very complicated. We take these 2 “tyt and ayt” exams every 2 weeks. The amount of the pressure is unbelievable🥲 my Turkish friends themselves find Turkish literature hard….. What makes it hard not the questions but the competition. If you want to get into top school then you're competing against many students and you have to get higher score. If you are okay with average school then you'll be okay failing most of questions. It's not as big deal as people making out of it.

I also studied abroad in Austria. Now I am an university student here in Turkey. Moreover, I attended to the exam, which was introduced in the video, last year. According to my observations and experience, it is much more harder to pass the university exam here. You have to study for a long time. The worst part here is that in schools students are not teached how to solve questions similar to these ones. It is more about memorizing formulas and using them in the exams. Furthermore, İt is seen as a vital exam and opportunity for a better future. Therefore, families spend lots of money to provide better education conditions for their children. İf you want to enter a good university you have to be in a great rank. In my opinion, when you get into 50k out of 2.5 million people you can enter to popular universities, which are located in big cities of Turkey. Unfortunately after all of this when you graduate from university, it is not sure that you can find a suitable job for yourself.

Memorization? So far questions covered here seemed easy to solve for me simply down from intuition that I had built in high school some 14 years ago and I didn't even studied hard. This intuition now often helps me land software engineering jobs. That said math and physics was my thing that I enjoyed. But from what I reading from others if you're not enrolling into math/physics programs you don't have to do well on these questions.

Turkish guy speaking, Going to take these tests this year, so far my life has massively changed. I've been chipping away at my hobbies and interests.Never have I thought I'd get this stressed and focused at the same time. I go to school 9h a day, study 5h at home. Taking both TYT-AYT preparation tests every single week. Learning how to manage time. My experience so far: Felt like I'm a non native Turkish speaker Felt like scammed (paying hundres for textbooks, cause' gov doesn't support us at all) Felt like I'm in a vicious circle where I'll have these feelings for the rest of my life. After all, I got some dreams to fulfill and I aspire to enjoy freedom afterwards! :D

I scored top %0.04 (1.000/2.500.000) in this particular exam. It sucks that despite I achieved getting education in one of the best state medical schools, It is ranked as top 301-350 in the world. If I had the exact same result in any other developed country's university enterance exam, I would probably be getting a better education.

In the UK 0.04% is far higher than Oxford/Cambridge that in fact take 10%-15% of all applicants (subject dependent). You would rank in the top 5% of Oxford/Cambridge entrants I'd guess... but good luck in your studies )))

The entry to Universities in Turkey is an incredibly stressful and possibly harmful process for your mental health. It's not just becuase of questions like these in the exam but the quantity of them, the time given to solve them, the economical fallout we've basically been in for at least 6 years, the lack of support by the government regarding anything other than fields like Medicine and Engineering (and it's not even that great) and many other factors. I was a bit lucky because i decided to instead study music and get into a Music College but most of my friends were outright depressed for a whole year and it gets even worse because some among them decided to not get into a college and try it again next year. Thank you for making this video, i believe it will be very informative for many people.

I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS VIDEO AT ALL. I failed this exam a few months ago. It was a literal nightmare because we have to sacrifice so many things in our life in order to pass this exam but yet most of us can't achieve our goal. I remember the way I SHIVERED when I read and tried to figure out some of these questions lmao. Nevertheless, I still have courage in myself so I hope I can get succesfull this time. When you work too hard you stress your self too much and you will have high chance to fail. Take it easy and you'll have higher chance of success. Imagination is very important in solving these problems quickly - with multi options there is great deal of creative heuristics that could be applied to eliminate wrong answers quickly instead of taking the hard way searching for the answer as if you had no options to chose from.

the fact that this was one of the "easy" questions on the exam :( I took this exam 2 times and the amount of pressure you have throughout the year is indescribable. I got my period halfway through the exam therefore had to study another year to retake it. The education system is soo corrupted if you dont get in the first 50k theres no chance for you to get into good universities resulting in you not being able to go abroad (which what every teen wants in turkey since we don't want our future families having to deal with this shit)

This exam was so difficult. I always thought my "AYT Math" was good enough. But during the exam, my brain just stopped. I was skipping 5-6 questions at a time. Seeing myself struggle made me even more anxious. At a time I just gave up. Told myself I'd take the test next year again. But somehow; me giving up, actually got me into the university I wanted. Because everyone screwed up so bad that suddenly, my results weren't that bad.

As a Turkish student, I wanna say that there is not so much need to ask this question in 1 or 1.5 minute. The main issue here is that the tested skill in this question is not about thinking logically or creatively; rather, memorizing these kind of "Yeni Nesil" questions and (somehow)solving quickly. So if Turkish System keep challenge students for a very obsolete skills(memorizing a lot) then whole nation will endure the consequences of crisis and misadministration . And thanks to @Tibees and other KZbin math channels for giving me the idea and intuition for solving problems logically as in this question rather than solving lots these kind of questions and inadequetly explaining the solution.
