Wow Turkiye is now the official name of Turkey in Roman script perhaps🤯 - testing wow it definitely harkens back to coming of age ceremonies presumably before settled agriculture which might have included an astronomical component in particular perhaps!? Certainly no permanent written records of these ceremonies available to us so wow how can we all feel like high preistly people even if we didn’t score in the top 1% or whatever wow hmmm… an ongoing conundrum as old as communities of people themselves however defined perhaps BUT made more crazy by so called settled civilization indeed🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🗽♾🌈😘🥰😍🌌🏆☮️💟😻😻😻…

Turkish students really go through a very difficult test, adding the factor of family pressure to be "someone", the unlucky situation with economy, competion, and so on. Im not turkish, but I used to be close with an amazing turkish person, I knew for what she told me and all the things we shared that things are really hard in Türkiye. ‼️‼️As a Turk, this year I will be taking the LGS exam that I took in the 8th grade at the end of secondary school, and I am tired of everything from the pressure on me to the stress of the exam. You can take this exam only once in your life. This exam affects your whole life because you choose the high school you will attend thanks to this exam. You can choose a good high school. If you got into a bad high school, you will get a good education. But if you got into a bad high school, you get a bad education and end up taking the university exam (you may take this exam more than once). If you have a good education, you will probably go to a good university. If you have a bad education, you will probably go to a bad university. For this reason. This LGS exam you will take at the end of secondary school is so important that it will affect your whole life. Students who are good at sports activities cannot have the profession they want due to family pressure, because sports professions in Turkey (painter, ballerina, swimmer, athletics, boxing, skating and many other professions) are financially low. That's why families don't want their children to do these professions. Families tell their children that they will choose the profession that makes the most money. To give an example, the most popular professions in Turkey (the professions that make the most money) direct their children to doctors, nurses, lawyers, judges and similar professions. When they (usually) fail, it is possible for them to hear things like “there's nothing for you” or “you can't achieve anything”. I will take the LGS exam this year and they give trial exams in all subjects every day at school so that we can get good results in LGS. I'm in the 8th grade and I'm at my school. There are a total of 100 8th grade students. In the exam we take every day, a piece of paper on which everyone's ranking from 1 to 100 is written is hung in the corridor of the school, and all students who are in the last 40 are scolded in front of the school. Schools in Turkey are divided into 2 private schools. and Public schools, Private schools are paid but education is better, Public schools are free and education is worse than private schools. I go to school 7 days a week, I go to school at 9pm on weekdays, return at 5pm on weekends and I have a lot of homework and you are constantly compared to other students by your family. ‼️‼️ ‼️‼️I wrote about Turkey's entire education system here.‼️‼️

In Turkey I entered all kinds of exams. I also had the chance to teach in USA and see the difference in exams and the curriculum. Here is why Turkey has really hard exams and lessons, but it's the Americans who get to go to space. 1) Turkish exams are not only hard. They have very limited time to solve compared to USA. Which is completely stupid because they teach kids to do fast and sloppy work. If we didn't have time problem, we'd be able to solve the problems the surest way, thus eliminating error. 2) In Turkey, students get to "memorize" things rather than learn. In USA, there is much more application, therefore kids actually learn what they're doing. I was allowed to teach kids the way I wanted, which wouldn't be allowed in Turkey. And whatever you learn, you get asked from that in the exam. For example, even if you get a hard question like the one in the video, you have already solved a similar problem. I really really REALLY hated the limited time and looots of questions to solve in an exam.

i am a fellow turkish student, and you truly understand our struggles better than the ministry itself. these exams are not only insolvably difficult, but also a great reason why the mental health of turkish students is going downhill. i personally have been dealing with an anxiety disorder for years now, and i am not the only one. so many students are suffering from anxiety, demoralization, depression and burnout, solely because of exams. even if you get good marks and graduate from a good university, there is a good chance that you will be working at a local grocery store anyway.

The question that you solved in 3:50 doesnt need 2 unknowns you could have solved it by using 1 unknown. And 90,150 and 120 can divided 30 that means that will be 3x,5x and 4x in order. And if you try solving by not dividing them and using 1 unknown can make the question harder and longer than the standart and simpliest main way (P.S. the questions of 8. Grade doesnt want you to solve the questions by using 2 unknowns.)

Let's make something clear. What makes the students who live in Turkey fed-up, depressed, and exhausted is not the difficulty of the exam. But the potato quality of the education system for sure. If one wants to be a doctor and get into a university, they have to know physics as good as a physics teacher, chemistry as good as a chemistry teacher, Turkish as good as a Turkish teacher, and that applies to other lessons. You wanna be a Computer Scientist? Here take that biology book, memorize it, grasp it, and learn university-level biology as good as a biology teacher does. Then you're allowed to go and choose CS! Beyond that, it's hard to explain by words the awful quality of the teachers in Turkey. Because, in terms of nepotism in education, Turkey ranks 1st in the world by far! In middle school, I had a teacher who didn't know how to calculate square root! Plague on him! Those who are good at their fields mostly work for private schools that many students can not afford. Well, nothing much to say. The geography that you've born in is your destiny :/

I didn't watch the video yet, just sharing my experience. I'm a 8th grade student in Turkiye. I am preparing for an exam named "LGS" (Liselere Giris Sinavi) and based on the score I get, I'll go to a high school. That exam is EXTREMELY hard that I have to solve over 600 questions a week to get an impressive score (more than 450, max is 500.) It gives me a lot stress and pressure. I come home at 5.30pm everyday and take courses on Saturday. I have extremely bad headaches after school, it's getting so hard to study everyday. In fact, I am just 14 and I don't think we should solve over 600 questions a week just to go to a high school. (I'm writing this comment crying because of how tired I am even after taking 4 hours of sleep and skipping 4 HOURS of studying) *I remembered something else while watching the solution of the question. We have 1 and a half minute so solve this one.

Sometimes you will never be able to maintain your motivation, you will get tired, there will be times when you will not be successful even if you work hard. But we have to do this if we want to get into a good high school. I'm in high school now. I am also in a very good high school. But right now, I look forward to the days when I studied for LGS. I know it's been 2 months since school opened, but the education system makes us memorize all the concepts down to the smallest detail. I study 5 hours a day and I never get paid for my labor. So what I'm saying is, have some control over yourself. These days too will pass. And one day there will come a day when you will receive the reward of your labor.

The issue with ridiculously difficult exam questions at a very young age is that it oftentimes leads to corruption. You need private tutors, which only the privileged can afford. The private tutors are often teachers who work at a child's school. Problematic. Then it is not unheard of to buy the questions from local council members or those with access to tests. Problematic. You then have to think about the wider issue of forcing children to spend all of their time cramming for exams instead of providing flexible learning opportunities where the student has more choice in what they are studying as well as the level at which they are learning. THEN, if you zoom out at the global level, you see the universities in the UK and US moving away from the exam based assessment as an old fashioned way to engage with student and measure their progress.

Yes!!! I've seen this in other countries as well. The tutoring business is huge and while it is possible for someone very gifted to pass, most students pass because of paid tutoring (I'm not including here those who sell answers or tests, just honest learning by tutoring). In the end I think it's very bad for general education, lots of smart students are lost in the process and you get an army of people with diplomas who are actually more or less stupid (because they were guided only for those types of questions that appear in tests, by their tutors)

Currently we have to study at least 6 hours a day and it should go up to 8 hours or more if we want to have a degree which can refer to first 1000. Unfortunately, I took the TYT and AYT 2021 exams this year. When I took the exam, which is now called LGS, I got a very high score and went to one of the best high schools. But unfortunately TYT and AYT were so hard that it ruined my efforts. I was depressed because of the exam. I'm on antidepressant medication and I go to the psychiatrist every month. I studied for this exam for 2 years, I am still studying. Test books are very expensive in the country anyway. A test book is 120 Turkish Liras. So you can think of it as 100 dollars according to your country. Another thing is that we can't find a job even if we study. Did you want to be a teacher? You cannot be appointed. Are you appointed? You have to take an exam called KPSS and get 95 points. Did you do that too? You are required to attend the interview. (Interview: Experts determined by the state before you ask general culture questions.) Did you get everything right in the interview? Congratulations, YOU ARE NOT A TEACHER. They ignore our efforts, they use us as if we are race horses! I hate this system. Mülakatta her şeyi doğru mu bildin? Tebrikler ÖĞRETMEN OLAMADIN. Emeklerimizi hiçe sayıyorlar, bizi birer yarış atıymışız gibi kullanıyorlar! Bu sistemden nefret ediyorum.

So First of all I am in uni did not get diagnosed until I started Uni/Turned 18, saw how Uni was, learnt about ADHD and I pursued diagnosis etc. etc. So I didn't think while I was in high school about ADHD. But as I am thinking now you are just 100% right. Like I was super burnt out and just struggling to focus in class but just because of the "exceptionally great exam results" it was deemed okay and was just told to focus more in those classes. And as I am writing now I just realised something. I would get hella bored in my Highschool chemistry class because this new teacher and he was just repeating the same example question in class with different numbers. It was to him to make sure we never forget, but it just make me lose focus at the start of the lecture and didn't get any material in that class whole year. But when I complained a bit between my friends about chem class all of them were like oh yea but those are so helpful I like all the repeating a lot. And I was just so confused how they found that system sooooo efficent.

This video made me recall the thoughts i had when i was a highschooler in Turkey. As you mentioned there is a huge gap between the quality of education and the difficulty of the exams. Besides, for the time limit is a crucial factor; students memorizing the question types and learning the question paterns become successful. Because they solve it quicker. This leads to a situation where the students need to go through extended hours of study, in private institutes. A diligent student is expected to spend all of his/her time for studying in the hours that he/she is awake. And if you are a functional human being, thus if you have other interests, hobbies and basically anything else to do, you need to make a decision: whether you are going to spend your time for the things that actually matter to you and not be able to ace the exam or be successful in the exam by learning lots of garbage which you will forget immediately the day after the examination. To the friends dealing with this dilemma, remember "you are not flawed, the system is."

Though you are still left with the reality that if you are in high school in Turkey *today* then it's unlikely that they will improve the system this year, or even the next five. Given this truth, your best choice might still be to follow the flawed system. Unless you are absolutely certain that you don't need the opportunities the flawed system affords you. Fact of the matter is people who are hiring have already learned to value top universities and are unlikely to change their ways. So you need to sit down, make a plan for your life. E.g. "I'm not going to be anxious about the bills of myself and my family when I'm 65 - 95. I'm going to have enough wealth by then to take care of anything that might happen to me." Ok if something like this is your minimum goal how much wealth do you need to get by then? Do your ambitions match this goal? Depending on what type of career path or entrepreneurial path you choose it might be so that you don't really need to have this university education. Or maybe you think the goal of not having anxiety about money in retirement is too high a goal? Fine, then do whatever you want. But you still have to face reality about how society in Turkey will treat your result. Not how they *ought* to treat you.

We also cannot ignore the fact that we are given ridiculously less time to solve these questions. When I was preparing for the AYT/TYT exam about 3 years ago, none of my classmates were training for the topics, but rather for speed. We were expected so solve around 150 questions in less than 2 hours. It isn't a exam that tests knowledge. It tests whether you have memorized enough question types to not waste time to actually think analytically on how to solve the question.

These exams are not for "testing how much a student has learnt" or "promoting healthy competition among students" as some (not all though) education systems around the world like to say. Instead, I think some of these "hard exams" are simply artificial barriers to entry for students trying to gain access to "higher learning" available only to the rich and privileged. Where I live in China, this problem is more apparent than ever; parents shell out thousands of dollars a year for tutors and study programs for their children just to ace the Gaokao, which to be frank simply serves as a filter for those who can afford higher quality education and those who cannot. Learning has become a commodity, and the beauty of discovery and exploration that learning once possessed has been washed away alongside this trend. Thankfully, several government mandates are toppling this trend, and hopefully education systems around the world will finally give back to children the awe inspiring qualities that learning should possess.

I'm a Turkish student and I can say this is entirely true. And profits government by two sides first side of this scam is because this exams are so hard poor children of the poor families never get chance to escape and go to overseas for a better life and work their entire life as workforce under rich. And second one is even if lower middle class families are hardly able to afford high priced schools and special classes, because of you not choosing their shity free government schools they consider it's a luxury that you're paying for priced schools and take Luxury taxes from your education.

It's not just hard questions, it's a problem. We are not in a system that prepares these questions for YKS for 4 years. Our school exams do not resemble such questions in their written logic, such as holding your right ear with your right hand without being decorated in a classical style, but the exam is almost like questions that ask you to hold your right ear with your right leg. full.

Actually, the difficulty of questions is just an excuse to show discontent. When you have 2 million people competing for the same thing, to get into one of the best high schools/universities, many hearts will be broken because only 50-100k of them can go to decent schools. This has nothing to do with the difficulty, no matter what the difficulty is, 90% of the students won’t be able to go to good schools.

Wow it's funny how I didn't even think about using the angles. I started with x and y the total number of TVs resp in 2019 and 2020. K = x(1-1/4-1/3) = 5x/12 a: x/4 - 25 = y/4 => x-y = 100 b: x/3 + 40 = y/2 => x/3 - y/2 = -40 => x/6 - y = -80 a-b gives x=540 and 5*540/12 = 225 Anyway it's been a while but I don't think I'd already learned systems of equations at 13yo. Edit: For the polynomial it really took me some time cause I went a completely wrong direction at first. I don't know if I'd been able to solve that when I was 17, and with the stress and all that's on the line must've been a really painful experience for the kids that went through this.

I grew up through this system in Turkey and now having my phd at university of copenhagen. Your assessment is quite accurate. You already get burnt out when you get to the university exams. Despite placing in a great high school, I completely lost interest in the classes. Eventually, I graduated at the bottom of my high school (by the way your graduation score also gets weighted-in in your university placement, and bad high schools kinda get boosted score in that part due to their not so stringent grading). I was so detached from the classes, I ranked at 100.000 in my first university exam. After which, I decided to study for a year to retake the exam ( I had to teach myself differential equations, limit, derivative and integral as I skipped those classes during high school) and consequently , I ranked 6000 in that year. Yes, the questions are hard and you need to spend a lot of time and energy (I literally learned how to get into the "Zone" that year). But another major problem is that the exam system changes quite often. Those 2 years in which I took the university exam, the way the exam is conducted, the type of questions, and the method of placement was completely changed over a year. Same story also repeated in my high school placement exam. It was a new exam compared to previous years. You are not only forced to compete in a world-class level, but also you have to do it in an ever changing environment/system, at a very young age. Unfortunately, a person who is capable of doing all these most likely can predict their future in this system. They can see that not even a fraction of their effort will be awarded. And that is a really though place to recover from for a young and untrained psyche.

As a Turkish student, I can easily say I'm nothing but angry at the world. Even though I could've been considered a successful student, I've never seen a laboratory in my life. Instead, I've seen teachers abusing their relationships with students to take them into religious communities, or even teachers hitting their students with higher dedication than a boxer. In every high school I know, students are expected to be soldiers. You have to wake up early, go to school; attention! Ready! Ease! And forced to listen to old and uneducated people yell at you. You have of course no personal space, you have to let them touch you and search your bag because they might find a cigarette. And of course schools are surrounded by prickly wire, so you can't run away. No talk about real science is allowed, especially evolution and religion. You cannot possibly criticize any teacher because I have seen people expelled for that. For these reasons, I never find myself studying anything I'm interested in anymore. Instead, my all motivation to study became running away from this country. Or being scared because I might be homeless one day, cannot even afford food, and die without anyone noticing me. When your motivations are bad of course you cannot study, instead you just sit and apply more and more pressure to your lips while each and every one of your interest extracted from your body by getting dismissed with excuses like irrelevant and useless.

We could also use Aitken's method of calculating the value p(4) of a polynomial that intervenes an unkown function f, at points f(1)=1=p(1), f(2)=4=p(2) and f(3)=3=p(3). Good news is, it's much shorter and less time consuming. Bad news is, it's something you learn along with Newton's divided differences and finite differences in "Introduction to Numerical Analysis" after you enter uni.

As a Turkish person who has experienced the LGS exam and have close people who have experienced TYT-AYT, I can say that the Turkish education system is a "theatre performance with chained up actors" cause you do not learn why the things they teach you are the way they are. They just tell you things and make you memories them like lines for a theatre show. They don't let us use our logic. And with the chained actors part, they make exams (LGS, TYT-AYT) to "test your skills" but what they are just doing is making us tried out of our minds trying to get a good grade. The exams are basically horse races and you are chained to perform on the stage. Also the fact that we are teached to memories instead of think makes it so the overall Turkish living experience is damaged too. People don't want to think or question anything. They just want to have everything ready for them and make choices that disables them to think before acting.

@@karthickjayaraman2090 I agree with you; however, the focus is just on solving the equations, without emphasizing the purpose of them. Therefore, it doesn’t fully helping us to enhance the minds. Indeed, many of the high-school students in Turkey can nail undergrad Economics101,102 courses while studying for uni exams. But, not only the math. Those exams are holistically gnarly in different sorts in each subject. Long story short. The exams for high school and uni drain Turkish students’ ability to look ahead, dream, demonstrate creativity and motivation to do something other than school. Don’t need to mention the mental consequences for many.

Şu videoyu izlerken bile uykum geldi artık içimde gram matematik aşkı falan kalmamış oysaki teog'a/8.sınıfa başlamadan önce en sevdiğim derslerden biriydi.

I scored high at the university entrance exam and got into a "good" university in Turkey. I soon realised that there is not much going on in terms of science in Turkish universities because of political instability and lack of funds. I was privileged enough to switch to a good university in Germany. I realised there how my colleagues were struggling with simple mathematics and how simple their high school curriculum was. The problem is that there are thousands more students who scored higher than me in Turkey but do not have the opportunities that I have in Germany. Those opportunities in Germany are taken by a lot of students who cannot do simple mathematics. This is a huge waste of talent and a great obstacle to human advancement. If only those talented people in Turkey or anywhere else in the world had the opportunities in Germany, the world would be amazing. This is the reason why we have to get rid of any nepotism or nationalism and give people opportunities globally based on merit. Perhaps this is the only way we could advance as a species.

@@sin3358 I have realised that first world people usually don't develop that problem-solving mindset because they don't need to. This is why cutting-edge ideas almost always come from third world people or minorities.
