Orion is spot on - I’ve always said that a wedding is something you should have after you’ve been with someone for 30 years and had a successful union. The party celebrates what has been achieved. Throwing a party for something that has yet to happen and no one knows will work out has always seemed backwards to me.
@chantellicopter3 ай бұрын
That’s what anniversary celebrations are for
@YoungSantasGroupie3 ай бұрын
For more traditional cultures, the celebration is about the coming together of two families. The celebration is meant to encourage this unity, "greasing the wheels" of cooperation, so to speak. But yeah, it's not about celebrating a successful union as that hasn't been achieved yet. I think that parties for both occasions make sense (the beginning of the union and the success of a union). However, modern weddings aren't so much about celebrating a union as they are a celebration of the bride. Women in western culture have long been led to believe that their wedding should be the most beautiful/special day of their lives. The expectation placed on that day is rather counter-productive. Not to mention that this "special day" is viewed by the parents of the bride and groom as a chance to impress their family and friends Between the expectations of the Bride on her "special day", and the desire of the bride's/groom's parents to impress, the price tag often becomes enormous. The price of a wedding can be a big stress for a newly married, even if it's fully covered by the parents.

Many times people date for 5, 10, 15 years or more then finally they get marry. However, soon after marriage they get divorced and the relationship ends. It seems that once people get married the stakes get higher, not jist financially but, emotional as well. Something deep changes in the heart and mind that somehow is never triggered during the dating or engagemnet period. There is more to than just tradition or a piece of paper. Just saying.
@eyekandy30003 ай бұрын
@@DipsSauce7388 I don’t think it’s that deep. The first five years at a job you might still be happy but 10 -15 years down the road your priorities may have shifted and they’ll just be more negatives than positives about staying that you have to move on. Of course we don’t look at people like we do at jobs. everyone will tell you, “you have to make it work, you have to compromise, do it for the kids.” But if people could just accept that we had a good run and the amount of work to keep making this good for a mediocre outcome is not worth it. at least that’s where I’m at in my life! Perhaps many or most marriages fail because most people have no clue what marriage actually is or entails. I tell every couple who comes to me contemplating marriage: The WRONG reason to get married is because you are "in love." Marriage is NOT about being "in love." Marriage is the commitment to "love." Now, let's define what "love" is: an action, sacrifice, decision, and choice, and then see if you are "crazy enough" (committed) to be willing to make that type of sacrifice. The next thing I tell them is: "The single greatest thing you can do to love your spouse is to deal with (heal) your crap. In other words, spend all the time and money necessary with Orion prior to marriage or spend 10X that amount with James afterward.

My wife and I have been together for a decade. To be honest, it shouldn’t have worked. My mother and father had a horrible marriage and separated when I was 8. My aunt cheated on my uncle…they got divorced. My grandfather cheated on my grandmother many times…they got divorced. The list goes on with extended family. I grew up seeing nothing but horrible decisions and people not getting along. How the hell is my marriage working? I don’t know. I think people make it too complicated. My wife’s beauty goes well beyond her physical appearance. I kind of see us as allies in a cruel world. We help each other. We’re here for each other. That’s it. It’s not about positivity 24/7. Sounds like a recipe for success.

My family and extended one are the same. Both of my grandfathers didn't cheat but were verbally, physically and financially abusive to my grandmothers, one was overworked and the other was a housewife. Yet they stayed till the end and took care of their husbands when they were bedridden. My parents got divorced when I was 8 and my father never paid child support. My aunt husband cheated on her and kicked her out of the house along with my little cousin in one rainy evening. My other aunt generously funded her husband and his children from previous wife only to be resented in later years as a 'evil stepmother'. The list goes on. There was rarely a good role model in terms of relationship and marriage in my life. But I guess at least there were bad examples to learn from. I came across Buddhist teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh on love later in life and have been trying my best to instill that in my relationship. I have also learned a lot from my fiancé on communication and letting my mask down. I hope we could maintain the level of contentment and appreciation as you and your wife do. The idea of "allies in a cruel world" is very beautiful.
@andrewwabik51253 ай бұрын
@@lepham71441 that sounds wonderful. I don’t know if a fort mentality is right for everyone though. My wife and I have been very hurt by people in the past. I don’t want to make it sound like everyone else is bad or “against us” in some way. But I think there are advantages to committing to the idea of having each other’s backs. When things are good, things are good, and when things aren’t good, we become closer and lean on each other. I was severely verbally abused as a kid, and it took years of compassion and hard work on both of our parts to get me in a better place. I don’t want to make it look like I’m all good. I’m certainly no better than anyone else…at best. But we tend to choose the harder roads in life. She’s striking out in her own with her own business and I, who’s been on unemployment for 4 months, decided not to move forward with employers who look to be pretty toxic. The risks are big. We don’t play it safe. No matter how hard we fall, we’re devoted to picking up the other…no matter what.

Being with my ex narc for the past 8 yrs. made me observe this very pattern. I think they wanted to feel very important in a way that is disturbing. Instead of building trust with their intimate partners, they destroy the trust that they built with you (in that case lying when they tried to put you in their pedestal). Once they have a committed partner, they can’t stand being loved authentically by one person. Instead they go on and prey on other women that is susceptible to their love bombing. My ex narc was a compulsive pursuer in a relationship. He would go back and forth to the women he were involved before or try to meet women in complicated situation so that going public isn’t an option while having you as their main supply. In the end they destroy the very person that loved them. They are like toddlers testing your love for them. Showing and telling them you love them isn’t enough, they will cheat on your face to make you feel inadequate even if you are more than they deserve. They want to test your love for them so they keep hurting you and when you have enough of their abuse, you leave. Then they tell you, ‘you never loved me because you abandon me’. Well in fact it’s their actions and narcissistic behavior that made you leave or in other cases they discard you and will give silly reasons of the discard. Mine would use, ‘she’s crazy’, ‘she’s a nega-star’, ‘she insults me’, ‘she cheated on me’ et al. So with this pattern of infidelities and emotional abuse (who knows what else) it’s better to walk away. I did walk away and is now rebuilding my life with our daughter. We are struggling financially because I’m not earning enough to provide for my daughter but now we get to laugh and bring with us sunshine every day. No lies, no abuse and no fake love. We only live once, forgive yourself and move forward but never forget the lesson that narc abuse taught you. That is to respect yourself to walk away from what’s hurting and destroying you. That you deserve a life of solitude, happiness and love. Hugs*** :) Additionally, If you suspect cheating or other forms of manipulation and need to gather evidence for your own peace of mind, you may consider reaching out for assistance. Resenting my loud and crazy wife almost every minute of every day, for years and years. Beyond exhausting. I literally had to give up on my dreams to stay married. The good news is, my dreams were actually quite meaningless. My dreams were all about money, material possessions, and trying to be rich and successful so I could enjoy the intense pleasure of impressing people with what I had and making my friends and family sick with jealousy. I eventually realized that my wife always had my back, took good care of me, not financially (at all), but emotionally and through acts of service. I appreciated that part of her tremendously and I really needed that in order to feel like a whole person. Being broke but having a good woman was better than being rich and giving up half my shlt and paying alimony and child support. F all that mess. I have friends that went through divorces and it damaged them permanently. 20 years later, my wife has been working full time making a decent salary, I’m doing well making a good salary at a place where I’m actually appreciated. My daughter is a few months from graduating college (our only child) and all the resentment and frustration I had with my wife the first 10-15 years we were married eventually faded away. We’re happier now than we’ve ever been. In contrast, my best friend of 40 years is a multimillionaire, but his wife and kids are a total mess, he’s going on trips all over the world hooking up with prostitutes, has 3 multi million dollar homes, a $250k boat, cars, toys, $1000 bottles of wine and booze, just loaded to the gills. But it’s exhausting being around him because he’s now absolutely miserable and an annoying alcoholic. That could have been me. I wanted to be him for 35 years of our 40 year friendship. But I’d much rather have my life than his right now. Give it time and go down your own path. Go with your gut, and be thoughtful about it. What will come will come, and you just get through it.

Telling women that their beauty is as valuable as money and compairing the two is sooo damaging. So many woman realize to late that nothing gives you the amount of power over your own life and happiness like money does. Money isn't subjective and the value can't be argued. Money doesn't expire. To even compare the two is insanity. Other than that I learned and appreaciated this video alot. Gained alot of insight and understanding.
@elvirammusicАй бұрын
Also the two of you showing so much appreciation for a woman's work at home, when I first hear it, it sounds very genuine, and I truly believe it's genuine but for insidious reasons. I can be wrong ofc but it feels like you're so appreciative of it because you know that's the shit end of the stick. You're really thankful that you don't have to do it. I don't really see men dreaming of being home husbands. And being a home wife isn't heard, it's just not forfilling for alot of people no matter the gender. And to waste your life on something so mundane and nonfullfilling is the ultimate sacrifice. That's why I think alot of home wife's builds a resentment and bitterness. She's wasting the only life she has on something that she feels indifferent towards. When you have a regular job you can change direction and change your mind multiple times without your whole safety net crumbling along with it. If your full time job is intertwined with family and your employer is your husband there is no room for changes unless you're ready to lose it all and take away the safety of the family.
@elvirammusicАй бұрын
In conclusion, you can't rush into the rest of your life before getting to know yourself. For the sake of you and for the sake of your future partner.
@tandelaf26 күн бұрын
The comparison lies on each of the "asset's" inherent value. Problem is that men's status/money/wisdom tend to go up, and women's beauty definitely goes down in time.

@@elvirammusicso much complaining ....oh wait.....nevemind you're a wahmen
@elvirammusic7 күн бұрын
@@tandelaf Yes I understand the comparison but I don't even think you can use the word "inherent"(as you put it) value when discussing beauty. Beauty isn't only fleeting, it's subjective, meaning the value is determend by others and changes depending on who you ask. Money has an inherent value since we all agree on the value and it's consistent. Relying on your looks is giving up your power/control and putting it in the hands of others while having money is quite the opposite. Money gives you the freedom to disregard others opinions since you can rely on yourself.

I love the conversation, and I do think it gives you an insight into what men want, need and expect in a marriage. The issue for me is that they really don’t spend enough time talking about why 70% of women leave the marriage. I’m not an expert so I can’t really say. All I know is that most women are not gorgeous young women that marry older rich, successful men. The average women I know marry average men.If they leave it’s usually not for money because they really don’t have any. It’s genuine unhappiness in the division of household duties, time with their children, the lack of intimacy, respect and being taken for granted. I think more women work outside the home and tend to want a partner rather than a traditional dynamic.

You say you're not an expert so you can't say, but then you proceed to speculate in a way that favors women. Color me surprised. But why stop the speculation at that level? Maybe men stop having sex with their wives because they use pregnancy and childbirth as an excuse to get horrendously fat and unattractive. Maybe their wives never listen to them anyway, and they aren't getting sex, so the man doesn't feel loved and appreciated. Maybe the man is the primary breadwinner and has a more stressful job, so having the woman do more chores is more fair. Anecdotally, the nuance I listed has been facts of life for me. My mom stopped having sex with my dad and surprise of surprises, he cheated. I charged less rent for my ex and she agreed to do more chores, and that wasn't good enough. In the end, you accomplish nothing by speculating. The cold hard facts are that women end marriages 70% of the time and children are born to single mothers 40% of the time. In both marriage and sex, women are the gatekeepers, and guess what? They are doing a terrible job.

Marriage can work well if the two parties continually work to meet the other person’s needs, selflessly…. that’s the hardest thing for most people, because we are naturally so selfish. We have to know that the other person has our best interest at heart. Most people, when they get hurt, default to, “to hell with you, I’m gonna look out for myself” and it goes down the tubes. It takes so much personal growth to keep choosing what’s best for the marriage and to choose a partner who will do the same.

While I feel sorry for you're situation the simple fact is divorce / family courtz heavily favor yall obviously there are exceptions where the women is screwed over like yours for instance but a majority of men who thru shitty divorces experience your pain I mean if divorce lawyers are backing men you really know the system is screwed with Tender years doctrine 90% of alimony going to women If the kid is not his some places the man's has to stop pay child support (even with DNA proof) False cases of men being put in prison for decades only to find out it was false Now of course situations like yours do exist and there should be justice for that I mean there's a clip where James was on the DOAC podcast and cried when he told his worst case where he was defending a pimp and the victim had no money and had to hire an inexperienced lawyers who he demolished, but he cried saying "just because he has money he can win with me, but she's poor and can't afford afford and she's going to lose because of that, that's not fair to her" so yes both situations exist but they have to talk to the majority to appeal to us because no one has ever done it before

It is Hard work with a grossly lacking respect for it. Society today priorities money and careers for women over something that has meaning, value and is hard. Implying stay at home moms are lazy is ignorant. The men who get this and appreciate their wives and hopefully get the respect and appreciation they too deserve reciprocated are the winners in my book.

If you can't connect with someone, or they with you, all the hot the sex or beautiful houses in the world will never be enough. I don't believe healthy relationships are purely transactional. Sex is the fire that keeps things cookin' but connection is the spark of that fire and what keeps relationships from being purely transactional. Our souls are not seeking houses, they're looking for a home.
@FoB393 ай бұрын
lol all this "soul" talk and romance / Disney bs is why marriage and relationships don't last. People dont look at the practical side of "love" or real long lasting reasons of being together. We are just biochemical machines looking to propagate with the best mate with the best genetics. Love has nothing to do with most peoples reasoning for being with someone.

I’ve been a stay home father for 3 years. It sucks. It’s not difficult. But it’s repetitive and boring. And it never ends. Deposing the stay home wife to prove she does 2 hours a day of effective work is unfair. It’s very hard to stay motivated when there is no real goal and reward. It really, really sucks compared to going to work 8 hour a day doing tangible things. That’s where the difficulty of being a stay home parent lays. Hours of choir per day is the wrong metric.

It’s a shame that is sucks because there’s so much you’re creating by caring for your children. Its the most difficult things, you have to manage much more like emotions, effective communicating, teaching etc. your children would so thank full to you for it.

>> compared to going to work 8 hour a day doing tangible things That very well may be... but how many people are doing "tangible" work? Most office jobs are just as boring and repetitive. It's mostly just shuffling around data or....god help me...customer service. Now if you're the type of guy who used to work on the oil rigs or is in one of the trades where you work with your hands, then that's a different story.

I love watching these conversations. It is very reassuring to me that I have cottoned on to most of the tips and tricks mentioned here and as a result have a very happy and successful marriage/family life. They really do hit the nail on the head with things, even though at times, I want to yell at them and put the missing female point in so they can fine tune their points a little more haha. I really hope the two of you do more of these interviews, it's so so needed right now! Thank you both, so much, for transmuting the misfortune of others and turning it into positive messages for others.

Preferred their individual interviews more. Orion had multiple appearances on SWU which are all fantastic. It was frustrating at times when James would interrupt and Orion was unable to complete his thoughts on a topic. James is admittedly a talker and Orion is great at listening.

@@Etrielle More just that the person I married decided being a mother was more important than being a wife. Bait and switch in terms of sex. I make a lot of money, and would have a far more enjoyable life being single than being in a sexless and loveless marriage.
