Everybody saying, "I'm so over the games. I'm fine the way I am. "If you were truly happy and content with your own life and what it is that makes you who you are, you wouldn't be bitter about shouting, ""I'm over the games." It's quite obvious, that you can't hold animosity for an entire gender or the past and still be content and happy. I was married once and I've been engaged twice, all three times those men cheated on me. I cooked, I kept a nice house, I gave them what they wanted and took what I wanted in the bedroom, I embraced their families, I had my own money and I'm smart and come from a good family. Still, these men cheated I just had to come to understand that what's happening in the world of relationships today isn't for me. I don't blame men, and I don't think it's OK to blame women. There is a lack of loyalty that permeates our culture and we're so amped up over constant stimulation with our phones and technology , that peace doesn't really feel like peace but instead, it feels like boredom to many of us. Everybody wants more, and when I figured out, that the majority of men aren't looking for what I am looking for and can't give me what I can give them, that was freedom So, I filled my life with beautiful things. I garden and I love my dog and two cats. I live on the beach and I swim every day. I bake, and I have a handful of really good friends and the truth is, I wouldn't dare to ask for more or risk, all that I love and hold dear for a relationship that if I'm going by past experiences, has 100% chance of failing due to deception. Even with all that being said, I'm not completely closed off. If it happens again, you can bet that I'll go into it with caution until I'm shown that one is different from all of the others. But I refuse to go on an app, and I don't sit in bars. I simply love my little life and that's worth its weight in gold.

I never cheated, and my wife divorced me. My own observation is that cheating is a symptom. For instance, I once worked with a woman how "cheated" once (she was lonely, and told her husband asap), and her emotionally manipulative husband used that against her for the rest of her marriage.

Dr. Taraban has a gift of making intellectually deep topics palatable for the general public. This is a very rare combination of qualities; intellectualism, empathy, and communication skills. I personally don't think Dr. Taraban is sharing or discovering anything new; as he shared, the topics he discusses have been discussed by philosophers, psychologists, and sociologists since the 18th century... for example, his discussion about people not knowing what contributes to their conscious interpretation of a thing is discussed at length by Carl Jung's views on the subconscious.... Dr. Taraban's contribution is combining them in a way that benefits the modern man and woman. bravo. Fantastic work from you all

I enjoy Orion's channel. I like what Orion said about friends finding it easier to console you when you're down than to be happy for you, supportive of you when you are a success. My father was that way. His children and other relatives who did well, who made a success of themselves were subject to his wrath due to his jealousy. The ones that were struggling, the hopeless ones that always needed help he was most comfortable with and he surrounded himself with them. The truest friend will be happy for you for your successes and not be jealous or resentful secretly hoping you will fail and have it taken away from you but that also requires that person to have a quality that rises above the average human. I also see this in people who laugh when someone does something stupid and gets hurt or has something else bad happen to them due to an event. The average person doesn't seem to like it when they perceive someone else as doing better than they are.

This might sound bad but I’ll be truthful. I was a damaged/traumatized young lady but attractive and had many “house” skills (cooking, cleaning, homemaking, child care, etc) and when my husband met me as a young man, I found out many years later, that he told himself that he could save me. It was a white knight type of thing, for him, to come in and save this woman…. And he did. He helped me through my family trauma, my rape trauma, all of it. Now I’m his wife, mother of his children, and we’ve been together 18 years and will be together until one of us passes. The strategy of saving the bird with a broken wing worked out for him and I 🙏

Hi Mark! I love Orion's method and insight. As a woman who has spent many years on the planet and most of my adult years have been spent in observation rather than engaging in intimate relationships. My worth and my confidence has allowed me freedom to grow into an understanding of who I truly am and how I want to love and be loved. Orion has an incredible honesty that many people may not comprehend. I believe too many men and women would rather live in denial and rapid gratification. Suffering comes from insecurity and moving too quickly and finding flaws later for fear that there is something to be lost. Calling him the "Darwin of our time" is way too much of a compliment. These insights and theories he presents have been around for a VERY long time. His direct conversation style brings an immediate inviting and approachable sense to complex notions of the common sense we constantly overlook because we nearly never introspect our motivations. I do not like how he assumes that we never rely on deep introspection, but I think he will bring more of use to think deeper about our drives so that we have more informed behavior.

I really appreciated the comment about understanding and valuing everyones thoughts and justifying both sides. It's refreshing that although i don't agree with all of his opinions, he doesn't state everything as a fact without question and doesn't shove ideas down your throat. He makes you think and want to understand where his ideas on both side of the argument is coming from. He isn't abrasive and doesn't tell you you're stupid for thinking something. He comes across in an inquisitive way that I can appreciate. If more people could have political conversations this way where it doesn't put the other person on defense, the world would be better off.

It has a purpose and its purpose is to move you towards a more favourable outcome goal or situation or if it’s bad enough take ‘DEEP-rest’ (de-pression) from your current situation

Orion is so humble, and his demeanor, voice tone and pitch, and sincere eyes put a soothing balm on the content that he produces. The content that you discussed today and on the previous Orion episodes are grounded in truth, and the truth will always initially induce cognitive dissonance and emotional responses deemed negative. It takes time to process the emotions when we become aware of truth, and those viewers who reacted with extreme vehemence will come around days or weeks later as they realize the wisdom that was given is gospel truth. What makes Orion's content work for the greater good is his delivery method, comportment, demeanor, authenticity, and aademic competency. On another note, Orion's current haircut and clean shaven face somehow adds to his professionalism. Take note of this; nota bene. Peace.

I was surprised to hear of the backlash received on Orion Tarabans previous interviews. I found him highly insightful and agreed with the not-so-pretty dynamics between a man and womans relationship. I've been in a relationship with my husband for over 13 years and found Orions theories to be accurate, especially since my partner and I got together when I was 21, him 27. Although the sexual marketplace value theory seems unemotional and black-and-white, it does hold some significance in how we move about our romantic relationships. The topic of love is always interconnected in relationships (it goes without saying) but that wasn't what Orion was trying touching on, at least to my understanding. I appreciated this point of view and I am now a fellow subscriber of Psych Hacks because of it. Thanks for touching on this Mark and Orion, well done.

Mark, you should have Orian on regularly, he's highly enjoyable and we still have more questions! As an aside, I'm personally interested as I'm currently researching for a book on toxic love and hope to interview him one day. As far as this interview goes, I loved that he touched on the topic of depression today, and although he tends to oversimplify some of those concepts (but I understand the limitations of an interview and having to have digesteable soundbites) I do agree with him -- I am curious as to what is his position on how women experience depression and possible reasons why. My other questions and observations are as follows: I would like to know what he thinks about how art transcends love, specifically things like limerence and heartbreak (and/ or breakup), since I've found it, in my own life, to be an antidote to many heart-related matters. I'm a writer by profession of both fiction and non-fiction and I've often used my art to make sense out of events in my life, many of them to do with love (and as an experiment and a challenge I've written from a POV of a male as well as female, in my last two novels). I often feel extremely lucky that I have art in my life or the ability to throw my negative experiences into something that not only helps me cope but also results in tangible creations, such as books. What I am also curious about is what he thinks would be an antidote to suffering from love (the good and bad kind of suffering) if someone is not an artist. Personally, I think having any sort of pursuit -- whether that's work or building a garden shed or running a marathon -- is an excellent way out of destructive emotional pain. Same with charity. Helping others has proven to be beneficial in so many other instances, for example, the AA program is based on service because being able to get outside of yourself (and helping others) can really derail all those crushing, devastating thoughts and feelings that keep us in a loop of sel-harm or self-pity as well. Can Orian comment on art and love and what is beyond love or what can "cure" someone of heartbreak? What I also wonder about is Orian's take on people older than him, more specifically women. From what I can gather he bases a lot of his knowledge on not just what he knows as an academic but also from his own experience so this one might be more challenging to answer but what does Orian think about women who are past their childbearing years in the context of romantic relationships? I'm not asking for a friend -- I'm asking because I'm personally curious, as a 46-year-old woman who is still very much interested in finding love again and pursuing romantic relationships that include sex, companionship, common goals, etc. But, obviously, I no longer have a lot of that currency he often talks about (youth) and I've already accomplished certain milestones (marriage, children, home-ownership, career, success) so my interest in a romantic relationship is not pressured by anything biological or otherwise and I don't particularly feel lonely and that I need a partner. I just want one. And I know that I'm not an exception; there are a lot of women (and men) out there who have been married, who had and did things and who are re-entering the dating world with the same aim, which, I think is to find someone fun to share fun things with. I guess I don't have a question and I don't need a dating advice, but what is Orian's take on older women dating -- what in his experience as a therapist and maybe based on what he's learned about as an academic is life like for modern-day women in their late 30s and beyond?

I’ve been out of the dating scene for well over 30 years and from what I have seen, he speaks unfortunate truths. I believe our society has moved away from traditional marital norms. I am a product of addiction, placed in parental roles at 6yo, on & on & on. Never an addict myself but caught in a subconscious role of rescue and saving, enabling. I could tell a good tale on this channel but poor Mark would be monetized! 🤣

Well, I'm a 56 year old woman, and I totally resonate with this man. I am about half way in, and this one is much more gentle, as I see it, because it feels like he needs to help those angered by this greater innerstanding of the dance between men and women. The last one was bang on as I see it. He is giving the simple truth on where consciousness stands in today's dating life. There's no question he knows what he's talking about, with the experience he has of his clients, which I'm sure, is many. It's just not easy to see that this is where things are at in our world, between men and women. Our world is in a sad and sorry state. It's time to be the love we wish to be in the world, because we are love, each and everyone of us. Cheers

I've found that his advice works remarkably well with most men. However, those who are highly intelligent and skilled in profiling don't respond to it as strongly. (He also says in that context that he selects for kindness, level temperament etc.. Intelligence and education was not among the traints - obviously. Which is a glorified version of: She has to by much younger than me, look good and I only want to fuck her (and maybe she can do things for me for free). While I appreciate these topics and have learned a lot from them, I believe there's a trend in psychology on KZbin encouraging men to adopt behaviors that might not be genuine to themselves. People should embrace who they are; if they're not content in their relationships, they should seek divorce rather than trying to conform to societal expectations.

In the extreme sense, I agree. However, one of the few things each of us as individuals has control over is our own behaviour. The reality is, if there is an appropriate reward (or immediate punishment) for it, most of us can change our behaviour, at least enough to get by.

In that embracing who you are then you should also be honest with your partner, yes. That should come BEFORE marriage so that divorce wont even come into the picture. If you were genuinely being yourself then you wouldn't marry the person in the first place. The truth is that if you are married to someone you love then you will certainly have to compromise in some sort of way. How much is up to you and that doesn't make you less than yourself. I don't consider that to be conforming to any societal expectation.

Having listened to all three of these talks, I think this one is the most digestable and best so far. Although I can handle vulgarity and blunt language, i feel that it is jarring juxtaposed with such intellegent thought. It also limited my interest/ability to share with several others in my life who are put off by it, but benefited from the deeper conversations I had with them after I absorbed the videos and reflected the ideas to them. Keep up the thorough exploration of love and the game therein!
