Important to note shaving her coat has damaged it by changing the texture, but it is perfectly okay to do this and does not cause any issues for the dog 🙂. It's just a personal preference.

I think when people say that mutts are healthier than pure-bred dogs it’s in reference to issues that directly arise from the irresponsible breed standards that, for example, force short nosed breeds like pugs and frenchies to have massive deformities that make their lives very stressful as they cannot breathe properly. And all just because it “looks cuter”.

Or purebred German Shepards, who have severe hip health problems caused by irresponsible breeding! Even a dog with a long face can be wrong under the skin. Unhealthy purebred breeds can seem perfectly healthy on the outside, not so much inside 💔

To the statement that mixed breeds are not healthier than pure bred: I think what that refers to is that some breeds have some common problems for example German shephards are prone to hip problems and pugs to all sort of problems. Some breeds are generally healthier than others but mixing a breed that is prone to a certain disease with another that isn't can result in a healthier dog

Please show us what hand-stripping means sometime. That sounds like an intricate and delicate process.
@SciFiGirl0073 жыл бұрын
Hand stripping is where groomer removes undercoat hair by brushing therefore removing hair by the root. This allows for new growth. Shaving only removes top portion of coat. Terriers benefit from hand stripping. It's a shame the dogs owners are not educated on the breed/coat needs of this dog. All dog owners need to understand that a dogs coat serves functions for the dog. Do what's right for the dog.

It's true that mutts aren't necessarily healthier, but they are often healthier by default, because selective breeding creates and maintains detrimental traits in dogs that are artificially selected (American and English Bulldogs, King Charles Spaniels, German Shepherds and so on). Mutts are more likely to just have a random assortment of traits where detrimental traits can naturally fade away. Not all breeds of dogs have these problems of course, but if you're going to buy a dog breed specifically, be sure to choose responsibly. Edit: thanks to everyone for the highly reasonable thoughts and comments; this community seems pretty amazing, especially compared to what I'm used to seeing.

exactly. they can get the same conditions but are much less likely to get problems through their genetics

Facts. I have had a pure breed American Bully and he had so many health issues it was unbelievable. As for my “mega mutt” the dog rarely got sick or had health issues.
@reebot6903 жыл бұрын
Eh, if ethically bred, purebred dogs are screened for diseases before the breeding takes place. So the point is moot. Not all diseases can be screened for, but many can. Also, I think you mean English Bulldogs. American Bulldogs are generally quite healthy.
@bimates26903 жыл бұрын
@@reebot690 “if ethically bred” yeah and how many breeders (outside of responsible ones) do that again? Not many. They just take two purebreds and breed them majority of the time. So that point is also moot, taking in consideration of responsible vs irresponsible breeders there are. Especially the ones just wanting to make a “quick” buck.
@woahtransbeuponye10843 жыл бұрын
@@reebot690 For some breeds, aren't their health problems inherent in the breed? Like pugs and similar breeds, they have respiratory issues because of their flat face, a trait that has been bred for, even by "ethical" breeders?

She definitely has some Jack Russel blood in her. My half JR/ Yorkie mix is 12 years old and still as hyper as a puppy. He changes colour after shaving and has a mighty jump and speed! They are one of the cutest dogs imo 🥺

Yeah, I had Jack Russel/Whippet cross when I was younger, and she was like a hyperactive little puppy until the very end of her life; I’m not sure how things went down, logistically speaking, with her JR/Whippet parents, but it must have been a sight haha. We named her Socks, because she had four white paws; and she lived up to her name, as she bloody adored playing with socks. Whether it be playing catch with balls of socks, to having a game of tug-of-war with individual socks, or even just lying down chewing/fighting with them on her own, they were one of her favourite things; she even learnt how to take off people’s socks when they were wearing them, without accidentally biting their toes…she was nuts haha. Her rather unique look could probably best be described as being a “Jack Russel on stilts”; she had the body, and face of a JR, but with the longer legs of a whippet; her coat was also slightly longer, and more whippet-like. Despite her odd lineage, and the fact that she was the runt of the litter, she lived to the ripe old age of 18- outliving all of her siblings, with very few health problems in her life. She was a crazy, fantastic dog, and it was great growing up with her. I hope your little JR/Yorkie bundle of crazy hyperactivity is doing great, and that he/she goes on to live a very long, happy, and healthy life. All the best.

My dog changed color. His name is Rusty. You wouldn’t understand by looking at him since his hair is cream colored, but it used to be a rusty copper. We gave him a haircut and it grew back a completely different color. We were shocked!!!

Many moons ago when I was younger we named dogs who were mixed breeds “Heinz 57 variety breeds” bless them.

That was what I called my terrier mix, Tootsie. A Heinz 57. Didn't know it was a thing, but the brand sure was widely known back then.

I watched this older video for the first time, it was interesting to notice the difference in the way you do the narration and general presentation. Thanks Vanessa.

I bet my mom would love her. Seemed very good on the table, and she's a sucker for that scruffy, two-texture coat you get in a lot of mutts.

My dog is like this as well. She's half schnauzer and half dachshund. Her undercoat is tan, and her top coat is silver and cream. Kylie most likely has a a bit of schnauzer, she's so much like my dog. You do such gentle work with this beautiful lady
