Kinda happened to me. Changed meds and it caused wounds. Was healing on their own but my cat licked one. Next thing I know I'm in the hospital getting tests. Doc comes in and asks if I have pets. "Yes a cat," I say. He laughed and said I had an infection that isn't a human one, i.e. my little deathbringer. Thankfully they saved my foot where the wound and lick was, though I KINDA wish they did lop it off. Was gonna salvage it, put it on a chain and when my fiancee would pick an argument I'd say "That's it! I'm putting my foot down!" and throw that on the ground. Unrelated: Two months later a doctor misdiagnosed something, I was in the hospital again, and learned I have a flesh eating bacteria and needed immediate surgery. Unrelated but evidence I have the worst damn luck.

I think it is cultural here in the US because I've heard it many, many times. I never really believed that and so I never let animals lick wounds or anything but I've heard people outwardly say that dog saliva has healing properties. This is scary and I know one woman who lost a leg due to an inflammation and one who almost lost it... One of them stepped onto something like a tiny piece of a branch while standing on her otherwise pristine lawn. That's all it took to say goodbye to her leg forever... It turned black at a crazy fast pace and no treatment helped... The other had a swollen leg (don't know the cause, but something apparently insignificant) and since it hurt, she went to a hospital but got turned back with only an antibacterial cream. As you might imagine, it got worse in no time and she tried to get back to the hospital, but they refused her saying that they had already given her a treatment and she just needed to apply it and it shall soon all be fine... She went to a different hospital, and there they told her that she should have come earlier, as it would have been just an hour or two later and she could have suffered an amputation! Lastly, every single time I got scratched by a cat, it caused swelling and a throbbing sensation. I'm so glad it neve escalated beyond that... Just a tiny scratch can still be scary enough!

@@rebeccahicks2392 Healthcare is still prohibitively expensive for a lot of us, even with insurance. Dental and vision are also often not covered by general health insurance.

@@rebeccahicks2392We still pay a lot even with insurance. We pay more for healthcare on average than Europeans even with our insurance.

My brother-in-law was helping friends move. Every time he went out the door with boxes their dog kept licking his legs. He awoke at 3 a.m. with welts and inch thick, everywhere that dog had licked him. Protein allergy they told him at the ER. My son is allergic to dogs. He has ended up in the ER twice with scratched corneas and his eyes swollen shut because he rubbed them from the insane itching sensation.

Ironic as some/many folks say to let a dog lick a wound to help it heal faster 😅

My dog would lick my skinned knees and shins as a kid. I got seriously sick. Two weeks in the hospital fighting infection that was put right into my bloodstream. I loved my dog, and she didnt know any better, but my dad told me there was nothing cleaner than a dogs mouth, and that she was trying to help me. 😅
