The first time I went to Scotland, I thought the Highlands would be .. well, nice. (Not a big fan of mountains here.. there, I said it.) When I arrived in Glencoe, I was absolutely speechless. That raw beauty is stunning. I went on to Skye with its spectacular scenery and was thrilled. Since then, I'd love to see the Outer Hebrides and Orkney+Shetland. So thanks a lot for the video. :) My countdown for a Scotland-Tour in 2020 is set ;)

Hi Shaun. That castle in Fort William is called Inverlochy, or Inbher Lochaidh. The original castle was the seat of the Thanes of Lochaber- possibly a branch of the ancient royal House of Alpin.

Great video, Shaun! We spend 12 days visiting the Highlands last year and enjoyed every minute of it. For me, Orkney was one of the highlights, especially Skara Brae. The fact that it was cold, wet, and windy when we visited just added to the experience of that ancient, mystical place. There is so much to see in the Highlands -- the Isles of Mull and Iona, Inverness, Ullapool, Dunrobin Castle, the lochs -- it's a fantastic place to visit.

SUTHERLAND!! That's where my family is from (many generations ago). My grandfather's last name is Sutherland. The castle you showed (just before announcing it was day 2 and you were in Sutherland) is Dunrobin Castle. Once the seat of the Sutherland clan. If I'm not mistaken the current owner (and possibly occupant) still holds the title Earl of Sutherland, though it's mainly ceremonial at this point.

For my trip from Inverness to Orkney I took a little puddle jumper plane. I wanted to do the ferry, for sure, but my time was so limited, as was my transport. The bus just seemed to take too long, and I could never seem to figure out the timetable (I went after the normal season, as well). So, tiny plane it was, for a quick 45 minute flight. It was so windy that day, too. I was very scared, but did it anyway. So glad I did!
