When Miya Marcano failed to board her plane home to see her family, everyone knew something was wrong. When they saw the state of her apartment, this further cemented their fears. But it was their gut instinct about a man working in her complex, that would start to give them the answers they needed…

God, I'm so sick of these small, petty, selfish little men who can't take no for an answer! Telling him no doesn't make her a b*tch, it just means she's not interested. Take it in stride and move on! He does not have the right to hurt or kill her 😩

Like these freaking incels popping up everywhere. Dude, if you can't attract a girlfriend, it isn't because you are not wealthy or handsome. It is because you are an utter asshole with no personality or any redeeming qualities, whatsoever. Instead of looking within, they look at all women as evil and let their deranged hatred fester. Another enraging fact is that these losers want to fixate on women and girls who look like supermodels, when they themselves are pasty, slovenly weirdos. I consider myself a bit of a weirdo, but I think that anyone reading this would know what I mean.

Miya's mother is amazing. She was totally engaged with her daughter's life, knows her friends, and had open communication with her about her life. This pos Armando thought that he could tell Miya's mother some b.s. Tragically, this shows that even attentive family who pay attention aren't always able to protect their loved ones. It's not their fault, they were everything. I wish there was something I could say but there really isn't, other than my prayers are with the family. This should have never happened. Rest in Peace.

Deputy Paulino was basically an accomplice to the crime: ignoring blood evidence, a discarded weapon under her bed, broken jewellery, fingerprints on the clearly broken in window, her stalker unnecessarily turning up at the crime scene, more potential weapons in her stalker’s car, not informing any of his superiors…she might still have been alive at that point. What an absolute disgrace of a police officer. He did everything he could to be dismissive about her disappearance and downplay her importance and the seriousness of the blatant evidence of a violent attack in her room. Thoroughly disgusting. I hope he’s haunted by his criminal negligence for the rest of his life.

@@NisaaAmmara This is NOT to take blame from the killer. I just have an unpopular opinion regarding this: The types of pics young women place on social media. She had a lot of seductive pics on fb and her privacy settings were public. I have no doubt lusting at and constantly obsessing over those photos led him to believe they had a connection, which he continuously insisted existed even though she always rejected him. He had a run in with another woman with the same obsessive behaviour but she was not killed. Her window was maliciously broken and that was that. Ppl are free to lead their lives as they wish, but they must always understand there are consequences especially when you’re a female. If posting explicit photos, put those photos privacy settings to be seen only by friends and family.

There are, but the complex that hired him either didn’t do a background check, or he wasn’t in the databases bc his charges weren’t followed through with or dropped. If he DID have a record-it’s possible he was only jailed for misdemeanors or juvenile offenses. No employer would’ve seen those, & it wouldn’t require him to be on a “violent offender registry.” However-even if the employer missed it or ignored it in the beginning-once they got complaint after complaint, they should have pressed charges & fired him.

@avecashley6480, this is what angers me the most!! The management at the apartment complex had apparently been notified about the vast disturbing incidents that residents expressed with Armando but they still did nothing??? And I don’t believe that relying solely on a third party for employment that did not apparently provide an in-depth criminal background as they would have been informed fully of his vast criminal history. Apartment companies have a responsibility to ensure the safety of every resident, and guest, on their properties as these are residences.

About 15 years ago, we had an apartment complex here with multiple families reporting clothing randomly missing from their childrens' bedrooms. One mother came home to find a maintenance worker in her daughter's bedroom. He claimed to be checking the fire alarms and left. He was actually a resident that worked as a maintenance worker to reduce his rent. When they searched for his name, they found he was a registered sex offender for 'possession of inappropriate images of children under 10'. The apartment complex never did any sort of background check, but gave him keys to every apartment in the complex. They sold out the safety of their residents in order to hire someone that would work for next to nothing.

They did not intentionally hinder the case and these people spend their time helping to keep the country safe. If you want more done you need to oppose the silly left wing laws that prevent them doing more, like laws that they need a search warrant to look inside a car etc. Tbh the mistakes in this case were likely due to the fact that people are constantly reported missing and it usually comes to nothing. Also taking the police to court costs the taxpayer money and then any payments won in the case are paid by the taxpayer too, its an extremely selfish act.

I hate how so many cops are comfortable just blatantly lying on top of all the corruption and incompetence. LAPD has a new chief and he recently was in the new explaining why he arrested the "Justice 8" activists, and entirely separately, some anti-Scientology protesters He in both cases told straight up verifiable lies, stated things to be known to him/them as absolute facts that are easily identified as just untrue statements top to bottom, probably false statements... Police staying, very publicly, that verifiably false details are absolutely true... It either points towards an insane level of incompetence, or it shows they are just outright lying, with no other options. Yet courts have to take what these proven liars say as the truth, they can't just disregard a lying cop, because he's a known liar, they have to PRETEND they're honest, knowing they aren't, it's gross

Miya was so beautiful. I haven't actually watched it all yet but I know what's happened, you can tell pretty quickly. She wasn't safe in her own home. How disgusting is that? Looks like another case of the police just not caring enough. Thank you for covering her case so well, she deserves to be remembered. I don't know how families survive this. Nothing is ever going to be the same for them, they don't even get justice. It's incredibly sad.

The sheriff’s office suspended officer Samir Paulino who, didn't report his findings resulting in his supervisor Corporal Kenneth Dale to report Miya as a "voluntary missing person!" Paulino only received a 150-hour unpaid suspension as discipline & caused Corporal Dale who, was said to have violated department policies to receive a 10-hour unpaid suspension as discipline. I support officers who aren't corrupt, but imo Paulino should've been fired bc had he done his job they would've likely arrested the murderer BEFORE he had a chance to self harm. On a more positive note though, the department did make changes to their policy that will "direct first-responding patrol deputies to immediately notify their supervisors, and the Missing Persons Unit, in any case in which someone is considered a Missing Endangered Person.” Also, Miya's family helped to get a bill passed in California which was signed into law that following June to honor Miya Marcano. It increases physical safety for renters "require landlords to get a background check on apartment complex employees (why that had to be "signed into law," is beyond me!) That should've been routine protocol to begin with considering those employees work around children too. The law went on to read that "people with a violent criminal history or anyone listed as a S.O. or s. predator will not be eligible for hire. Landlords will also have to give tenants 24 hours notice before entering their apartments & keep a master log of who is accessing any master keys." Rest in Paradise Miya 🤍🏝🕊

I had a person who stalked me for many, many years. This started in the late 1970’s and was never given the attention this crime, imo, warranted by police officers or law enforcement. My family did take it seriously and I was protected to the best of their ability. The man who did this died a long time ago. I’ve been able to get therapy. It’s something that caused so much trouble and it always will affect me. I’m so grateful, though, that I got that chance. And I’m absolutely horrified and infuriated for Mia and her family. This many years later and despite so much effort to get laws put in place AND it’s still happening? I don’t know how these LEO’s can sleep at night. And I’m so inspired by the changes that Mia’s family have made to get protective laws in place. RIP Mia and prayers for her family. ❤️🙏🏼🕊

The apartments I live in have very few cameras and the security gates are broken more often than they are working. The maintenance guys have a master key to get into any apartment. They do have to post a notice the day before they are entering your apartment. As far as I know the maintenance guys have never entered my apartment without consent or prior notice but I’m not here 24/7. It’s scary to think about all that after hearing this case.

He took full advantage of the fact that she was 19, in college, and was away from her family. Men like this prey on younger women because they know we’re vulnerable and are afraid to reject unwanted advances from them. This is why it sometimes feels safer to just ignore and be rude to men, because if you’re nice to them, they will literally take it as an invitation and will never leave you alone.
