6th July 2022. Police in Bradford were out searching for a high-risk missing woman who hadn’t been seen since the 25th of June. While going through an area of wasteland, they would come across a truly horrifying scene. The investigation would take them very close to home as the hunt to uncover the truth began.

As a father to a girl who is my pride and joy I just can not imagine how much hatred must be in the heart of a man who would have his daughter killed or disfigured over anything. We really should stop calling them “honor killings” and call them what they are, hate crimes against women.

The 'shame' was not about a young woman who took pride in her education and in helping others. It was because she refused to marry someone pre-selected by her father. Islamically and Pakistan culturally a women has the right to say no. This was a barbaric act of violence and murder. 'Shame' would be an understatement.

Correction it had nothing to do with education. She was being forcefully married. The reason they stop education is so they dont find anybody else for marriage apart from dads nephew or niece. The men in our community go through this as well but less. I could of bee one of them.

@Ramadankarmhalf truths. In Maliki, Hanbalis and Shafi'i Madahib, a daughter can be "forced"/coerced by the Wali into marriage and the marriage will be Jayiz. It is only in the Hanafi Madhab that considers the daughter's choice, and that's when she hits puberty/becomes an adult. In all cases, girls below the age of puberty below the age can actually get married off in Islamic law. It is important that one clarifies the Islamic stance or at least believing it fully instead of branding it off as "culture" or "old ways" as cope.

Something similar happened in Italy, where I’m from. A young Pakistani/Italian woman fell in love with an Italian man. She refused an arranged marriage, and wanted to get married to her boyfriend. The family tried to stop them until she decided to leave the house. At that point the family decided to k*ll her and hide the body. Can you imagine a mother agreeing to k*ll her own daughter? They had been seen in cctv walking with her. And when they were going back home, she wasn’t there. Parents, a brother and an uncle got arrested but the parents managed to fly in Pakistan to seek asylum and accuse Italian authorities to be responsible for her death. Unbelievable. I cried for that young girl. She just wanted to live her life. She didn’t hurt anyone, she just wanted to love and be loved. 😢

I once had a coworker from Afghanistan, we were friendly enough she dragged me out of my house to apply for college (which i thanked her for now). She herself was in college becuse she wanted to better herself, her family had arranged her marriage back in Afghanistan but she fell in love her and refused. Her mother said that would destroyed their family's reputation and had a heart attack over it. So my coworker flew to Afghanistan and married this guy. When she came, she showed us pictures and she looked absolutely beautiful. But long gone was the happy, bubbly, talkative coworker we knew. She was just a shadow or who she was before her marriage. I always felt so bad for her but i understand now she had no choice. As far as i know professionally shes doing good and she has a child. But only God knows if she found happiness again. It is sad what other girls have to go through in other countries. And knowing their mothers are the ones that sometimes want this done to their daughters as it was done to them is truly despicable.

Rest In Peace Somaiya So many Pakistani, Afghan, and Indian girls have such hard life in their home countries, due to practices and beliefs rooted in patriarchy and misogyny. We need to always have a soft spot for these victims as they deserve so much love and dignity. I hope, honor based abusive cultural practices can be eradicated in this century 🙏🏾😔 Thank you, Truly Criminal for bringing attention to this matter❤

So she was brave enough to seek help and they gave her a piece of paper and then placed her in the paternal family home? That seems like a move they made to make themselves feel better (like they did something). Whether this belief is or isn't rooted in religion (I don't know so I'll have to take your word for it), it absolutely is cultural in some regard. If something is in place, it's probably because there's a need. If there's a need, then maybe there should be a better way to protect.
