I’ve tried enough summary courts martial cases to know. Even if you are in the right, you do not disrespect a superior officer. You can salute and respectfully explain your position.

@@mikeedwards320 Nope. He’s on base and he knew who she was. Even off base, if you knowingly disrespect a superior you can be prosecuted. As the IG of U.S. ARMY Japan, I reviewed several similar cases, prosecuted by the JAG, because a Soldier filed an IG complaint, thinking that being off duty and out of uniform gave him/her a get out of jail free card.

It's amazing how good Lt Kaffee is. He is well informed and smart and suave and knows things and clearly has discerned his role and hers very quickly but puts a veneer, a facade just to keep his playboy outlook going or to confuse others on purpose to get joy out of it. Cruise deserved an Oscar for that movie

She was bluffing. The entire time she knew that she didn't have the support of anyone in authority. She was trying to cajole him into doing what she wasn't capable of doing. He read her and knew that he could dismiss here without fear of real consequence. Only one of the three on the defense team was competent and he didn't care at all. He just followed orders and got the job done. Without him neither Moore or Cruise's character would have found their passion, seized the moment and overcame their shortcomings.

Well they just stopped the colonel from advancing in his career. His trial is never revealed but I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard for a court and some military shenanigans to go on to enter some form of agreement leading to his retirement. So at the end of the day the they got the same result and the guy who did it isn't keeping the job still anyway. Cruise's character also just lost his perfect record on a slam shut case so that could affect him hitting big at some big law firm (hyper competitive but he WAS on the right track)

Why? Just because he prefers to plea bargain as opposed to taking it to trial? Taking it to trial takes up a lot more precious resources than plea bargaining. Jo may think she he is trying to get Kaffee the true meaning of justice but what she's doing is looking down on Kaffee because he resolves all of his cases with plea bargains, while she is so opposed to plea bargaining that as a trial lawyer, she only resolved three cases in two years. In real life, Jo would be considered too inefficient to be employable as a lawyer and too many lawyers like her would cause the justice system to collapse.

He was going to have them walk in a few months? They admitted to being part of a conspiracy. The prosecution should have added conspiracy to the charges. BTW, there was more than enough evidence to convict.

They started with murder in order to bury these kids forever. This was assigned to Kaffee with the idea that he would plea it down just to get it off his desk. When it looked like he might get the Colonel involved, they offered assault and conduct unbecoming, dropping the murder charge entirely. But of course, when they went to trial, it reverted back to murder and conspiracy. The intent was manufactured because they had to play up the poison angle to deflect any attention away from Jessup or Kendrick being implicated in the death. Not when Jessup was about to become a Washington big shot.

And my question is do you think cruise tried to learn to swing poorly, or did he just go in with no training or forethought about it. I think Cruise (not Kaffee) likely could hit a softball pretty well if he tried, but in an effort to look bad, he may have put some work in (which I find comical, do you find it funny or is that too deep of a thought?)
