This scene is floating around KZbin in many countries yet the principal actor here didn't get an Oscar. Scandal is all the Academy seems to be capable of. Jack Nicholson gave a performance that was worthy of the silly statue but the public regard it as one of the best performances on screen by an actor. Sublime!

This is one of the single best scenes in all of cinematic history as far as I'm concerned. It also speaks greatly to how people in positions of power often doctor up documentation, with phony bullshit, in order to sell a story they want sold to others including even the public at large. There are so many examples of this, in real life, but just one example is the JFK assassination. Everyone with any common sense, or any basic investigation skills, will quickly agree that the lone assassin story and the magic bullet theory is PBS (Pure BS). I've even had a now-retired Texas County Sheriff (he wasn't retired at the time of the conversation) bring the topic up out of the blue and ask me what I thought of the Kennedy assassination before sharing his thoughts on the matter and how JFK's head moved in a direction inconsistent with the purported story of a lone assassin shooting from the direction of the school book depository. I could go into much further detail about that event and the facts of the case but the fact is that the public has been lied to, repeatedly, so the only question that remains is are you content with not knowing the truth or do you think the public deserves to know the truth?

L o L i know right ? It speaks greatly to how people in power do blahbedlyblah blah blah and then..... uh....spill their guts loudly and proudly in open court at their very first opportunity ? Yeah that's it.

There was no need to murder the guy he should have just been discharged. Also asking other men in his platoon to murder him just makes the men feel they cannot trust eachother and they should be able to if they have to battle a common enemy. It is a good performance but obviously he is narcissistic and mad with power so he is not stable enough to be in charge. Preserving the ethics and honour of the military should be a priority and he violated that code.

Anna Vajda yes
@JK-vc7ie5 жыл бұрын
Anna Vajda then didn’t murder the guy. The intention of a code red discipline is just a good beating. The death was accentuate. Lastly, you should not question the methods of the military until you know a lot about the military and actual war. That’s a general statement as this is obviously a fictional movie.

@@JK-vc7ie I have been in the military during war. allowing/ encouraging unit members to apply 'just a good beating' does not result in good unit cohesion or discipline. It is a failure of leadership.
@JK-vc7ie5 жыл бұрын
@@snsnplpl Did you read the comment from anna vajda? She said that "they asked other men in his platoon to murder him". She said there was "no need to murder the guy". Murder was clearly and obviously not their intention. That much is so clearly obvious I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise. Second, this was not a wartime situation. This was peacetime training, essentially. I think you would agree that those two situations are not the same. I'll agree that beating the shit out of someone is not a good idea and is indeed a failure of leadership, but I woudl argue that some kind of pressure directly applied from peers to slackers in a group will save lives and increase performance. I've not been in the military but nonetheless this is what I believe to be true in all areas of life.

You know, Jessup's mistake was making his lie so much more complicated than it had to be. He didn't have to frame Dawson and Downey to go down for murder 1. He didn't have to make up the story about the transfer. All he had to say was he didn't give the order. Period. Dawson and Downey would have gone down for involuntary manslaughter and conduct unbecoming, for inflicting an unsanctioned Code Red that went bad. There was no need to try to send them to jail for life. Jessup's overkill gave Kaffee the motivation he needed to go the extra mile and risk everything to try and exonerate them, not to mention more opportunity to uncover the lie.
