Cool good to see you go for the win, a lot to having you own build and your car is a beauty in motion. I have a bucket list to take a SCCA drivers training and then race. My favorite You Tube watch was a PIR corvette race with a '67 Ford 427 Holman-Moddy clone Ford - he won the race the vets would closen at the corners an the beautiful FE power would walk away form the vets it was beautiful win. God speed to you as you fine tune these cars and yourself to the best - blessing to you and your family.

Sounds like you have a plan and a reason for that plan to work. FWIW, the Mini's are shaped much better in the wind. Good luck on the driving test. Love the track footage and the clocks and speed ball- it really shows where you need to pinch inches and seconds off. Every time you go , you seem to get a bit better- this one had a lot more sawing the wheel and I was wondering till you explained about the new cambering- back that off a degree or so on both ends and run it again- that should improve your patch contact and give you a more predictable ride. You still met your best time on this track even with it feeling a bit unsettled.

Nice one Matt! Engine sounds great. One thing I noticed is you turn in early for alot of the corners. Camp for example if you stay a cars width from the first apex it will get you a better angle for the second, to really get that turbo going early down the straight.

Hey Matt, I think you'll be surprised just how quickly you'll be running near the front in the mini's. You're a talented driver, once the pea is set up properly...you'll be turning some heads. PS..Even thou the Mini is also a brick its less of a brick than the 100e...;D

It would be interesting to see how much mid corner speed your revised set up will bring. Can you hook up a brake pedal ‘sensor’ of some type (or just a camera) maybe there’s a bit of time available with more ‘focussed’ braking. I reckon a collaboration with someone like @driver61 could be interesting - see if driver training over the ‘tubes can shave lap time. Great stuff Matt. It must be so rewarding bashing out some reliable, quick laps.

The vehicle is too light for that suspension setup I'd agree. Not being in person to see what the nature of your rubber is it seems dancing around the track on the inside of your tires voided the extra track width of your car. One of the most successful track racers i ever met would set his tyre pressure to 22 lb's./ inch square. I was astonished how soft he ran his pressure but he would lift the inside tyre at the front on almost every corner. That alone could correct the suspension geometry by allowing a very flexible tyre on an aggressive race suspension setting. (which you have set up) little steps Matt. Brilliant car and you're fairly focussed driver. When you have the setup set. Itll come down to your concentration at a fast rate. Lap records are made to be smashed.

I may have missed your setup specs, but it looks like you need a lot more camber front and rear. My e46 is -4.5 front and -3 rear. In this video yours looked close to strait up and down. Camber in the turns equates to confidences. Not baggy on ya, trying to be helpful. These cars are awesome.

Hi Matt, what is the power to weight ratio of the Mongrel versus the Mini? If you watch BARC stuff on youtube, you'll see that not everything can match the Mini laptimes on certain tracks, if they do go faster than the Minis - it's generally not by much. Unless of course it's a mahuasive inbalance in terms of power to weight and cost. It is absolutely superb to follow you, to learn, to laugh and to be inspired. Thank you for creating this brilliant channel.
@Urchfab Жыл бұрын
Thanks for following along bud. I’m not sure as I’ve not weighed it yet, I would think they’re similar power to weight. Soon as the mini is finished I’ll sort out some scales and weigh both. Cheers 🍻
@Chilled_Mackers Жыл бұрын
@@Urchfab Thanks for the reply fella, I'm sure with the great community you have created, there will be someone local to you or a track that has the scales and would help you at the drop of a hat. It'll save some pennies that could be spent on moar tires :D When my parents raced Minis in the 80's, they used to take a crate of beer to the local scrap yard, to use their scale. Granted, wont give corner weights or front/rear balance, but it's an option. Looking forwards to future vids, keep up the superb work chap!

AWESOME VIDEO.........exactly what I enjoy watching and the talk at the end gave exactly the information I was wondering about 👍 I realize that it isn't the plan but what other more powerful engine could you put in and what do you think is the most horsepower the Mongrel chassis could handle?

Unmistakable sound at the start. 😀It also sounds like there was a hand on the slide whilst it was going forward. This is not recommended if you want the round to be chambered 100% properly and fire thereafter! The slide needs to be released at full extension and to come forward under its own steam with a "bang"! Holding the slide going forward is a disaster waiting to happen. ie: a round not properly chambered and a misfire when you really don't want it!
