Join Jacquie as she sits down with William McKerrow, a community member who once felt like the foundation of his life was built on sand. Growing up in a tumultuous environment filled with domestic abuse and constantly being moved from place to place, William experienced feelings of abandonment and shame. These experiences led him down a path of early drinking and eventually resulted in a drinking problem, dysfunctional lifestyle he ended up with four biological children from three different women.
To add to his struggles, William's brother committed a first-degree felony, resulting in an 18-year prison sentence. Their relationship was confined to visits behind bars. The only relationship he knew with his father was around alcohol. Most recently, William lost his sister to an overdose.
However, at the age of 37, William found a way to get sober, completely transforming the trajectory of his life. Through this journey, he discovered forgiveness, support, gentleness, vulnerability, and clarity. He now experiences sobriety and peace even in the face of life's toughest moments. His foundation is no longer built on sand but on something much more concrete.
