And I have a question, isn’t there specific type of pharmacist (nuclear pharmacist) that would prepare the chemotherapy ? Due to it’s a hazardous medications

Thank you for the support and taking the time to watch my video! Usually we have chemotherapy trained technicians that would prepare the hazardous medications. As pharmacist, we would do a pre-check before they compound and then a final check at the end to make sure it was compounded appropriately!

Are there any specific pharmacists that do a lot of direct patient care? Do any of them work more with patients than even doctors?

Yes that would be ambulatory care! There are different types based on the specialty (diabetes pharmacist, hypertension pharmacist, cholesterol pharmacists). Their main role is to manage the patients in between the doctor visits. So often times they will see the patient 1-3 times in between their doctor visits depending how far out and how complex their meds are

Does clinical pharmacy have a more hands-on aspect than other areas if pharmacy? I am deciding between pre-pharm and pre-med, and am worried of being bored even as a clinical pharmacist

There’s def hands on aspects of clinical pharmacy, it can vary depending on the specialty! In the ED or ICU, you will attend code blues and compound stat IVs in emergency situations. In the central pharmacy or oncology pharmacy, you will be double checking and overseeing the IV compounds made by the technicians and ensuring the bags are made properly. For medicine and surgery, we do bedside discharge counseling with patients and we go over their medications in person (insulin counseling, inhaler teaching, etc)

Yes my salary is around that range, but it took me a few years to get that! The average Clinical/Hospital Pharmacist salary in my state is $164,100 as of June 26, 2023, but the range typically falls between $154,600 and $174,800. Salary ranges can vary widely depending on the city and many other important factors
