Just got a job as a night pharmacist 7on/7off. I’ve worked retail the last 4 years and that’s all I know so any insight on what to expect and how to prepare would be greatly appreciated. Very excited to step into this new world of hospital pharmacy and finally be done with retail

Congratulations! Welcome to inpatient pharmacy :) I have a video on how to check IV medications that might help! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZSsmmmAo9lgirM Also, I would recommend reviewing your hospital's protocols and looking at your coworker's previous notes to see how they dose vanco/heparins/etc and overall how they do their notes. When I first started, I would do that and keep a folder of note examples I could use as a reference. Its helpful when you're alone at night and don't have another person to ask!

Hey guys I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future. Thx for reading.

Hi! This video showed up in my recommends since I’ve been watching a lot of PTCB prep videos. Which shift do you prefer? I’m thinking about working in a hospital vs. retail and wanted to know more info about the hospital setting.
@SarahPharmD2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Hm... I think either the IV shift or the Internal Medicine shift are my favorite :) That is why I created videos for those shifts first, haha. I enjoy the hospital setting because I get to work alongside nurses and doctors! I love the teamwork it takes to provide care for our patients.

You work with the lights on during the overnight shift? God damn that’s rough, I need to turn then off and keep it at minimal lights.
@SarahPharmD2 жыл бұрын
Haha you’re right, I recently started diming the lights and it is a game changer 😂

Hi! I believe in order to practice in the United States, you will need to receive your Pharm D here. However, please double check me since I am not 100% sure of the process for international pharmacists!

hello, I'm a pharmacy student from turkey. What grade are you in? In which field do you want to progress in pharmacy? Hello I’m really interested in this career. How long did it take for you to become a pharmacist? What degree did you achieve to get, if you don’t mind answering. 😊
@SarahPharmD2 жыл бұрын
There are two different routes you can take. For me, I went with the traditional route in which I did 4 years of college and 4 years of pharmacy school. Then I did 1 year of residency (optional, but highly recommended)! The more accelerated route is if you apply for a pharmacy accelerated program to get your degree in which they combine undergrad (2 or 3 years) + pharmacy school (~3 years). Then you can do an optional 1 year of residency after! However, there are not that many accelerated programs and you have to be 100% sure you want to pursue pharmacy if you plan to do the accelerated route.

@SarahPharmD2 жыл бұрын
No it’s not required! Alternating between days and graveyard was a specific position I signed up for! ☺️ There’s definitely full day inpatient pharmacist positions. However, most hospitals will have you do evening shifts once in a while. It all depends on the facility!

How many beds is your hospital? 4-5 ICU pts seems small to me haha. Do you have pyxis on your floors that the technicians fill or is it all through central pharmacy? I'm a tech at a 400ish bed hospital.
@SarahPharmD2 жыл бұрын
haha It is a small amount. It was a particularly slow week, normally it is a lot more! I believe our hospital has ~250-300 hospital beds :) We have an omnicell on every floor, but there are certain medications that have to come from our central pharmacy as well!
