That's actually showing empathy and confidence at the same time. See how that works? Try it...... Then duck.

A lot of people here are missing the point of this scene. This is about how to communicate. It depends on how well you know the person. Also it is about creating "small talk" . This is something that many young people lack today. This movies is great because it is real.

I love it. My grandfather took me shooting for the first time when I was 5 years old. He handed me a 12 gauge. "See what you can do with that". I pull the trigger....and land flat on my ass. He turned purple from laughing. "learn how to brace yourself." I miss shooting with my grandpa. * For anyone tsk-tsking about giving a 5 year old a loaded shotgun...I was raised around guns and was trained from my earliest memory that they weren't toys, given safety instructions, and told never to touch them without an adult....so....shove it.

Time was a kid would go along with dad for a hair cut, and you'd have old guys smoking cigars and talking exactly like this to each other about sports and politics, sometimes in the most profane manner, and no one would think twice about it. It's a male only kind of social interaction that, for some reason, put everyone in the place at ease. You could say things at the barber's that you wouldn't say before ladies or at home.
@Locktwiste72
@Locktwiste72 6 жыл бұрын
I grew up in the 70's and early-to-mid-80's. Whenever my dad took me to the barbershop, he and his pals and whoever else was around would talk the kind of talk that would make an old sea dog blush with embarrassment. They didn't get all rowdy and dirty, the conversation was light and littered with a little profanity and a little mature subject matter without any serious lines being crossed to corrupt 7-year-old me, you know? My dad would just tell me not to repeat what I heard at home because my mom wouldn't like it and it wouldn't be respectful to her. Turns out my mom knew exactly what that old talk was and really didn't mind it much so long as we didn't use it in the house and especially not at the dinner table.

This scene really illustrates how we have lost the ability to communicate. Not saying Tao is always online or whatever, but Clint and the barber grew up in a time where face-to-face conversations were essential, and they have over time developed that ability to create "small talk" (something today's youth lacks). Growing up in Clint's time was a lot harder, I'll admit, but I would have much rather grown up with them than in a time like today consumed by technology.

I went to a school where everybody was bagged on equally. Every slang name was thrown back and forth and yet nobody was “offended”. It was a common, mutual rudeness that was welcomed. Some kids travelled in and right out if they couldn’t handle just blending. I went to that school almost my whole childhood life and had no idea “racism” was a real thing because nobody was superior there- every race and gender was treated equally with people talkin smack all the time. I miss that time...it kept all of us in check- yet close...real close- all of these years later which means it stood the test of time. I don’t get the whole “offended” thing- it just makes for insecure people. ❤️✌️ Btw- this is one of thee best movies ever.

The zodiac killer attacked a woman the police were called and over the police radio the description was falsely giving a black male. Cops in a car pulled over the zodiac but him being a white guy and the description being a black male he was allowed to leave. Shortly later an amended description of a white guy was made and the cops realised they’d let him escape.

It's seems offensive but it's really friendly banter, most people apparently are autistic and can't catch on that so they just label it as blatantly racist as if your friend would want to hang out with you if he actually hated asians. Do it back, it's fun and harmless.

Clint reminds me of my 86 y.o. father, a hardcore Army vet , he is exactly the way Walt and Martin act in this scene. My father has nicknames for everyone and it's funny watching the look of shock on people's faces. It was a different time, back when people didn't have such tender feelings. I'm 63 and I catch myself doing it every now and then but it's usually coworkers who I've known for a long time.

I’d forgotten how much I like this movie. Boil down a lot of the older men my father was friends with when I was growing up and there’s Clint’s character. It’s kind of a shame people work so hard these days to distance our culture from much of what made them who they were. Not all of it, but a hell of a lot more than we are told is “acceptable”.

25 years ago I started going back to real barber shops for many reasons. I had been going to places like Super Cuts and those types of places with female hair cutters and stylists and getting crappy haircuts. Why is it that a woman can not cut your hair the same way twice in a row? I love real barber shops with a great experienced barber. You can talk about sports or what is going on in your life or if you just need to vent. And after the barber has been cutting your hair for a while you will get a great low cost haircut that is just the way you like it every time. A great barber is not only great at cutting men's hair he can also be a good counselor and friend. So for 10-15 bucks you get a great haircut, and a counseling session, and you get to hear other guys doing the same thing.

This is such an enlightening movie to showcase cultural difference between cultures. Asians are not rude but they sometimes have a different way to interact with people than the westerners. I think some people have a misconception that Asians are rude but sometimes it's a cultural thing but most young Asians who are born or raised here have adopted the western ways of interacting with people but still value their traditions.

This touches on a blue collar reality that I learned back in the 90's, bucking rivets on 767s, hot metal shavings going down your shirt, drilling into someones leg. I was brand new employee and the senior mechanics just sprayed me with nonstop daily insults and I almost quit. But what I discovered was, they were just testing my character, seeing what I was made of, and did I deserve respect. I stayed with it, got a boost in confidence and went on to better jobs within the company. But damn if I don't look back at those times as some of the best days of my life.
