If it matters to anyone, the girl, Rachel shenton and the guy, Chris Overton, have been married in real life since 2018. They were the creative force behind the short film, “The Silent Child,” and had been a couple before then.

Yes, and to listen to and follow your inner voice rather than choose to overlook the signals. They are always there and so often we choose to silence our inner voice because we're so hopeful. We want the other person to be "the one" and we rush into the relationship, often letting our "biology" run our decisions. Well done film. Sad that so many can't work it out

My interpretation is that the man, Alex, is imagining his future relationship with Jess unfold after he asks her out. He imagines everything, even the possible end of the relationship during his whole conversation with her, but at the end decides to ask her out anyway because the possibility of heartbreak will be worth it in the end, because having a relationship and losing it is better never taking a chance to get one.
@peace_324
@peace_324 Жыл бұрын
He knows the relationship will end because of him or his problem with hsi wife being workaholic so he just has to manage it because it's not toxic it's just his too much concern of having a family rather than a support.
@alexwild4350
@alexwild4350 Жыл бұрын
@yumbunny256 Yes I see it the same way as you, but for towards the end. How else would he know if his premonition of how it will all go, will end as he thinks, without taking the chance to ask her out, to have the relationship and see where it goes ? Or else the montage is how the relationship went from start to finish. Just compressed to fit into a 10 minute film.

Maybe he's unconsciously pursuing--and settling for--a workaholic that he knows won't give him any more attention in the long run than he gives to his own (as yet undiscovered) passion. Or maybe he can't face himself & she who is work-distracted also serves as a distraction for him? Does she know who she is outside of her admittedly dull job (behind which she's hiding from life)? I feel neither character is truly aligned with their own Self; they decide to shelter in each other's disconnection from Truth until it is no longer viable for them to do so. This is not a love story, in my opinion.
@alexwild4350
@alexwild4350 Жыл бұрын
@@writerforlifeify Ah but the truth of the psychology of our 'lovers' is born from our experience gained with, for straight men, their mother, for girls, their fathers. Therefore if his mother was a 'busy' woman, full of distractions, our lead man will recognise this in this female mate, and be attracted to her because she feels like 'home'. Where and how he learned to love. In this he can relive the trauma he experienced with his mother who was always being distracted away from him, of whom he eventually had to walk away from, as he grew up. Having grown up he left his mother with a somewhat indifferent attitude, just as he relives with this lover. She ,the mate, may have had a father who was either physically or emotionally absent, or both, and, the only recognition she got from him when he did pay her attention, was to look at her work, or school work, and how busy she was. [Not a bad line of thought since men maketh themselves through their work] So she is immersing herself in a never ending tail chasing lifestyle in the belief that this will gain her the attention of a male partner. And it does for the reasons given. So I agree with you. This is no love story. It is a story of a relationship that is doomed to fail, that is also so typical of normal life for many people. The 'passions' we engage in become coping mechanisms to fill the time between the gaps when we get the love we so desperately need. Except another distraction comes along and pulls the rug from under us again, and again, and again. Until we've had enough of the pain. Or in the case of the man, he gives too much attention which exceeds the attention given by the father, in which case it becomes 'smothering' to the girl and he is perceived as too needy. She can't breath for the closeness.

This reminds me of the last guy I was with. He was Swedish and travelling. He had just got kicked out of his lodgings so I let him stay with me, first for a night then a couple days then it was like a month, he had made no effort for plans or what he was gonna do, I tried to let him know he needed to go but ended up just like waiting outside my place then saying he needed to charge his phone, then if he could stay the night. I felt so used and powerless . After not sleeping and anxiety through the roof I made him go, with no love lost, was at my total end with that person. I still feel angry and resentful thinking about how I let it get so far or let someone in, but I can't blame anyone else At least now I've learnt that speaking up more at the first signs of be uncomfortable is a lot less painful than saying nothing

Michelle Simmons Hi ! Your comment caught my attention! If I can console you, about not being able to go back to that 'saved' point, about not having tried harder, I'm not sure that would've been more fulfilling... Sometimes, it's just better to not try so hard. At least, to know when not to. I just wish sooo much that I hadn't tried sooo hard!!! In every field of my life. It was such a struggle, and so painful... My God, did I wear myself out, trying, again and again. Never giving up. Over and over... Now, I'm so tired, burned out. I can't find the energy anymore to even get through my days properly! Nothing really stimulates me, nor motivates me... Life is just a bore. Which is something so strange to feel, for me. As I always had lots of things going, and have travelled the world. Lived/ worked in various countries. But, in conclusion, life is always the same, everywhere. People can be sooo disappointing and horribly nasty. Especially when one has a good heart, and caracter, like mine. So many have taken advantage of that, even when I didn't let them! Ugh. I pray that God heals me, fully, and gives me the strength and motivation, but especially the right people, and right life partner! 🙏 And a very interesting profession on my 'new' path, so that my efforts get due pay, at long last!! 🙏🙏🙏 Take care, you still have lots to live for, and the energy you saved be used now! 😉 Wisedom helps to move in better ways! 🌸🌟

A lot of enlightening commentary here. One thing i saw missing was: when do you call yourself mature!? Relationship teaches you a lot but if you are immature, you don't learn anything. The story can have a very different 'future' if the characters mature while their relationship lasts. Both will develop empathy and will be ready to meet at the middle.
