It’s just remarkable how most people in the comments chose to ignore the fact that the boy chose to threaten the man with a very realistic toy gun. The reason why this film was so good was not because of the love and bravery the boy showcased, but rather the contrast between the sweet nature of his feelings and the horrifying potential his actions showcased. I’d say the boy’s actions are not to be praised for sure.

It's beautiful! The film is beautiful. The story is beautiful. The teacher is beautiful. The boy's love for her is beautiful. This might be a "short" 15-minute film, but I don't mind spending an hour watching it over and over. Maybe even an hour and a half. A few people seem to think that this movie glorifies gun culture. They are missing the point. When a movie shows people driving around in a car, it's not about glorifying car culture. The car, the gun, the house, they're all props. The essence of the movie is exactly described in the title. It's a crush that a little boy, who can be any of us when we were little boys, and despite being mature beyond his age, is still endearingly innocent, has for his teacher. It's a beautiful, original, touching, creative story, wonderfully realized by talented artists. Just enjoy it.

The sweetness of this film pulled me in. Where it went appalled me. Especially in consideration of the two recent incidents here in the states where young children brought their parents unsecured guns into school. One of the incidents resulting in the serious injury of a teacher. If there is one thing this film eloquently illustrates it's the curiosity of children and their inability to process mature emotional situations. It also documents the stupidity of some parents with regard to guns and the storage of them. Considering all the love for this film shown in the comments I'm sure I'll take a lashing for this comment, but I find the loving comments almost as disturbing as the film. I'm not anti gun, but I am seriously against the irresponsible handling and storage of them.

@robertyu1012 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on this one--this film rubbed me the wrong way. There's great irony in that the boy's father was complaining about the trouble caused by a guy with a crossbow, and now the boy himself threatens a fellow human being with a gun for, well, illogical reasons. Many commenters seem to think a second grade boy threatening a fellow human being with a gun is fine because it's fake. It's not. Threat is not a proper way of human interaction, and the threat of death--implied by the gun--strips its victim of all freedom. If I point a gun to someone's head and tell him I don't want to hear a word, they don't have the choice to test out whether the gun is real or not; if they guessed wrong, they're dead. I have effectively enslaved them through the possession of greater power. In the film, a boy did it to a man he doesn't even know but still hated. What could the man say? That he loved the teacher deeply and that he'd rather DIE than to say he won't marry her? The viewers knew that's probably what the boy wanted, but the fiance doesn't. The only thing he thought of was that if he triggered the boy, he could be dead, right there, for the silliest of reasons. There's nothing endearing about that "dueling" scene. It showcases the horror that any uneducated, careless children and a instrument of war (real or fake) is capable of. It's terrifying, but the teacher compliments the boy for his actions. He's called "Romeo," the hero, and maybe he'll do it again since it was considered so right the last time he did it... It only takes a few seconds of rage to kill a person forever. Nothing about gun should be taken lightly. At the end when the rubber bullet was revealed, I did not feel relief, rather I felt disappointment at the boy's parents and teacher and sadness for the man, who for all we know could've had a wonderful life with the teacher, because just like the boy, we know nothing about him.
@midnightodellewest1999 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I remember, when I was a child I was in my parents room and found a replica gun that had been his father’s. It wasn’t the kind that actually worked, just a old replica. I picked it up and pointed it at the wall. Didn’t even play-shoot or anything like that, but my father (who was a police officer and kept any real guns locked in a safe) saw me and scolded me for it pretty sharply. He then took the time to explain to me why it was such a big deal. That lesson always stayed with me. We were never allowed to even have toy water guns growing up because my parents wanted us to be aware that guns are not toys and are really dangerous because “You can’t take a bullet back”. (Edited to correct a typo)

I was SO tensed when I saw the idiot just laying there like he was dead, and then PHEW, I exhaled with relief to the fact that it was just a good old fashioned film about a little guy with a crush on his teacher. Very interesting & entertaining indeed!! Times have changed drastically!! Crushes on teachers happened a lot, still happen & will keep happening, only teachers today are not at liberty to joke about it, or play along, because society is complicated, and some parents can come up with accusations that are beyond a good old fashioned teacher's reasoning or comprehension - Sad but True!!
