I talk to TVM. I live about 2hrs away from them. Going up tommrow to pick me out one. They were highly recommend by many custom makers. Sound very knowledgeable on the phone cannot wait!!!!

Beautiful! There’s nothing prettier than a well built flintlock I’ve yet to own one but soon I hope

I have one of their early Lancaster models one of the last to have Jack Garners name on the top of the barrel, mine has plain browned iron fittings as I didn't want to take a chance of the sun reflecting off of the fittings I also have a sliding wood patch box, I ordered the plainest wood I could but when I got the rifle, I got a note from Jack apologizing for using a more expensive grade as he was out of the other, believe me I didn't mind a bit, the rifle is my prize possession, and highly accurate.

Had a TVM late Lancaster built a couple years ago. Went to pick it up. Beautiful rifle albeit the patch box would not operate correctly. I got it closed & do not use it because it will not operate as it should. Looks good. Hope the rest of you have better luck.

That is a really nice rifle. I have a custom flintlock I paid $5000 for in 1990. It is beautiful and has worked great over the years. Mine is a 62 cal smooth bore with a barrel length of 46 inches and the total length of the firearm is 61 1/2 inches. The barrel is a Swamped Rice barrel with the first 15 inches octagonal and the rest round. Beautiful Curly Tiger striped Maple stock with Brass furniture. It has a wooden sliding patch box with a hidden release. The lock is a large Jim Chambers Round Face English lock. Model L 14. You can use this lock like a flashlight! However, I really want a rifled flintlock like the one in this video so I think I will check it out. Thanks for a nice and down to Earth video. It was a pleasure watching it. No loud booming music and fanfare stuff.

Thank you. The TVM Lancaster is beautiful. TVM knows where to put the touchhole in the sunset position. Your Chambers lock may be a better choice over the standard large Siler, since I saw great sparks directed exactly to the pan. Of course, with any lock it depends on angling the SHARP flint at the right angle to the frizzen and feeling how well it scrapes and where it ends up pointing. You have it down, Sir, and I commend your good information. With flintlocks every small nuance of making it fire on the trigger is good. A vent pick poke into the touchhole opens up many more powder granules faces to the flash. The pan powder works faster if not up to the touchhole, and so on. You know. I have a 40-year-old Tennessee Valley Arms mountain rifle made by an unknown but perfectly artist gun maker working for Jack Garner, formerly of Dixie Gun Works, and it is a tack driver still today. I say never mind trying to freshen a good barrel after 3,000 rounds or so. If it ain't broke.... It still shoots in "x" and "9" on the bull's-eye of a 3" pistol target at 100 yds. Last time offhand. Lucky me. Ha. My buddy, Uncle Sasquatch and I are looking toward to a .62 fowler from TVM. His may take 6 months, so I'd better get on with my order, eh? I'm looking at the Virginia rifle, too....Say, I heard that a 1 to 1 mixture of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide will just eat away lead in a barrel or whatever if you let it work a while. I'll try that on an old barrel and see. Thanks. Will look for your other videos. .

Down isn't the "correct" way. The correct way is whatever works with the flint/cock/frizzen alignment. Why would you have lead in the barrel if you use patched round balls?

Lewis thank you for posting this, that is a gorgeous rifle and the sound of that chambers lock shouts quality, I bet this rifle is a tack driver at the range. I would sell a vital organ to have a rifle like that.

Depending on where you live in Michigan, you might want to try the living history trade fair held every March at the fairgrounds in Kalamazoo, or you could drive down to the Log Cabin Gun Shop in Lodi Ohio, depending on the current state of the virus problem the Spring National Shoot in June in Friendship Indiana, has all of the best gunmakers in the world gathered at gunmakers hall, or if you want to take a little longer of a trip, I would recommend the House Brothers, at their forge in Morgan Town Kentucky, Hershel is one of the very best as is Frank, ( who made The two rifles, knife and tomahawk, used by Mel Gibson in the movie The Patriot, while his wife Lally, made his shooting pouch and rifle sling, Frank was also the master armorer for the movie, Master And Commander) Hope this helps you out.

A very nice rifle, however, the land around the lock is far to wide to look period correct, and why is there a large overhang at the toe of the stock ? You have a very good lock with an excellent spark on this rifle, enjoy it!

Because many of the originals were built exactly the same way.

ONLY in my opinion, I prefer brass at the trigger guard. German 'silver' is acceptable everywhere else. I can tell that it has a strong spring, nice. I'm very curious to know if they can include extra length frizzen screws to make them reenactment usable. Reenactors must install a flash guard. I like my guns with a .54 cal, but looking for a smaller cal as well for smaller game. This would be right up my alley.

Beautiful rifle but I don't understand why the butt plate overlaps the toeplate. Shouldn't it be flush with the buttplate??
@micahclark99794 жыл бұрын
I'm just a viewer, not the owner, but I noticed that too, and thought the same thing . . .I built a Late Lancaster in 32 as a TVM kit . . . I made my butt and toe plate flush because that's how I have always seen them. TVM is a great company . . . I also thought that the nose slope to the cap was a little abrupt . . . still, It's a lovely rifle.
@Nick-wn1xw3 жыл бұрын
Because many of the originals also had that overhang. It wasn’t that it was just too tough to take that 1/16 or so of an inch off it just reflects an accurate copy of many originals.
