I hadn't really taken inventory on how stoic I've become over time. I've struggled with mental illness my entire life, and it wasn't until I started to take inventory on how much *worse* my life *might* be, that I began to fully appreciate the way my life normally is. It isn't always easy or fun or even pleasant, but it sure as shit could be worse. It could be _so_ fucking much worse. One example I can give is; I stopped drinking alcohol altogether. Now when I see/hear about people being hungover, it makes me appreciate and be grateful for the fact that I will never have a hangover again.

That's a great point, capitalism takes the same approach with things like dieting too, but instead of advertising a change of food it's a change of thought. Neither are marketed honestly because the truth behind both eating and living is that improvement requires wisdom and intitiative on behalf of individuals and communities, which is not a product that can be sold. Psuedo-Acedemic corperations will only advertise philosophy in a form that requires dependance on their product, even though true enlightenment can be only found independantly within one's self. Simply consuming corperate engineered philosophy content is a false shortcut to calling yourself an intellectual, in the same way that being on the latest health food delivery subscription is a false shortcut to becoming truly healthy.

I recently backpacked in Peru and due to time constraints had to reuse socks and underwear for some days. Eventually I was able to find a laundromat and I was so extremely happy to have clean socks and underwear. I realized that I didn't need clean socks and underwear to get by (if the situation arose), but also how happy I felt when I did have them. Now that I'm back home I'd much rather consciously choose sleeping on the ground than reusing dirty underwear to practice stoicism.

Could you make a video about specifically about the various kinds of nihilism / philosophies which deconstruct or doubt meaning, and how for some people these are not immobilizing or destructive, but rather liberatory? I feel like nihilism gets used by edgy teens to excuse anything they do or don't do when challenged, as a pejorative used by others without an understanding of nihilism, or as a way to deflect criticism of positions one holds without having to really engage in with it. It would be nice to see a defense of nihilism and other schools of thought which similarly deconstruct or doubt meaning, to use both as a reference and to help organize my thoughts.

For me, stoicism has like 3 or 4 really solid ideas and the rest doesn’t work. Acknowledgment of one’s circumstances is good. I respect integrity (being honest with oneself) and like that aspect of amor fati; not to wish for things to happen in any way other than how they happen. Hope is an illusion that robs you of the present I like how it reminds you of the only certainty in life, death. Puts things in perspective. I like the focus on things one has control over vs what is outside of our control. Aside from those 3 things, I don’t believe in “living in accordance with nature”, asceticism of any kind or the subjugation of human passions
