Another thing (for me) is: Why have I not keep listening? I heard Nightwish at the beginning, liked it, but Tarja was (she's exceptionnal, a fantastic singer, but...) too operatic FOR ME. I liked the songs, but I couldn't be a deep fan, ther was something I needed I didn't have. So I never went very far in this band. When Annette came, I was definitively out. She's also a good singer, different, but too pop FOR ME. By chance I heard and saw a part of a show on youtube with Floor, and I immediatly fell in love, she gave exactly what I excpected to match (FOR ME angain...) to Nightwish. He awesome Voice of course, but also the "rock" presence, the charisma. A revelation, and Nightwish became in my top 5 favorite bands. I know a lot of old Nightwish fans says that Tarja stil the Nightwish soul and will always be the best. But as I was first a fan of the Tuomas's work, I don't fear to say that the perfect Nightwish is the one we have now (Troy is also a fantastic addition). Human :|: nature is a masterpiece.

@@ooO0VicariouS0Ooo Don't worry dude, i listened to this band since Tarja was the lead singer, stoped because Annette's voice was too pop for me too, and she couldn't even sing old Nightwish's songs. But Floor was not just the perfect match for you or for me, but for the band, she can sing every song from every album, and can give the song what we didn't even know that the song needed. Like i always say when i listen to this woman, she's not a human being she's a goddess, Shoemaker is a proof of that.

As you probably realised now this is a band full of musicians that really know their craft and have no need of showing off unless the song actually demand they show off, but when needed they certainly do it with style. And the good thing about not having discoverd them before now is that you gotta a hell of a lot of wonderfull music left to discover/react to :)

At one time Empuu nearly quit NW, cause he said he didn't think Toumas was utilizing him enough. He plays what the song needs.. He no longer feels like he needs to show off his skills and techniques. He has understood sometimes the song is more than flashy guitar solo's. And he's right. There are a lot of great guitarists in bands out there that play what the song needs, or catering to what the band is, rather than really showing off just how talented, skilled they really are.

One thing how Tuomas is creating music and how NW play/present it: Tuomas will write down what he see, feel, taste, hate, love etc...and paint it with help of melody to our minds. Some bands are making music thinking like ” what will sell most” and play also like that. But my friend, NW is not doing like most of others. That’s the way how NW respects fans. We as a fans should respect NW to not say how they should play, present or compose their pieces of art. As Tuomas wrote in new album in song Music: ”There, I'll greet the greedy crowd But will never Never, ever sing to them”

“Oh God! What did I get myself into?” Has anyone told you yet that Tuomas wrote/recorded an entire album about Scrooge McDuck (The Life and Times of Scrooge). Or about Imaginaerium. Tuomas couldn't just do a concept album like other bands would have done, instead its lets make a full length motion picture to go along with the album and while it has a couple of tracks off of the album in it it has its own soundtrack as well. Like I said in your GLS reaction this rabbit hole is deep and twisty. As for how good their live performances are there are a couple of reasons. The first is they are perfectionist and wont record something that they couldn't play. The main reason though is that every couple of tours they will professionally record a big show off of the tour and release it on a DVD/Blu-Ray so there is a lot more quality recordings of their live shows than most bands have.

You got yourself into the deepest rabbit hole in music, 3 songs in, about 120 to go before you get into side projects and solo performances. You aint heard nothing yet! You will be saying "this is the best one" for the next 50 songs, along with "well that was completely different to the others". The sheer range of Nightwish is just unbelievable... thrash metal, celtic metal, folk, power metal, they did a jazz/blues song once, then they go into acoustic songs that are just beautiful... Tuomas is the metal mozart, Floor is the best singer of her generation, Marco could lead any metal band with his vocals... Troy can play anything, adds so much with his flutes and whistles and ebow guitars... kai haito, the drummer... just wow. If you watch him in Wintersun, the guy is an absolute machine. As for Emppu, you saw a bit of what he can do on lead guitar in this one, but he never goes into solo showing off mode... its always what fits the song. Go for "Seven days to the wolves" at wembley (sold out 15000, I was there it was the best gig I will ever go to, thats for sure.) It has the most epic ending to a song possible!

Tomas who is the mastermind/music writer of the of the band is a modern-day Mozart. His arrangements and transitions are pure masterpieces. The other band members are also established and talented who could easily showcase their skills during every song, but they do not because most of the time the songs do not require it. What makes their songs so great is their combined effort. And besides when you have arguably have the best vocalist in the world fronting the band, she unintentionally steals the spotlight. Since Floor has joined the band Nightwish has been on another level. She has brought joy and peaceful kindness among the entire band.

Empuu is amazing. The beauty of his style is that he could shred and impress if he wanted to, but he, like every other member of the band, does what the song calls for - to perfection. Anything but a melodic riff echoing what Floor's vocals were doing would have stood out too much in Ghost Love Score, so that is exactly what he did. It is so impressive to me that each member of the band knows how much and when to step forward, and when to fade away, to create the perfect piece of music. It's not about Eddie Van Halen kinds of single musician showmanship.

Your point about the solo in ghost love score was completely valid, I've always wondered about the simplicity of that solo myself. But, they've always been a band that values accuracy and constraining themselves within the songwriting, which is impressive in itself. You've redeemed yourself. *lol* The thing with Nightwish and guitar is that they don't rely on a shredding guitar solo to carry the song. Metal heads aren't quite used to that. Too many standard 3 chord progression metal songs out there, capped with a nice shredding solo that's typically over the top, faster than the song needs, and simply to showcase speed, rather than actual musicianship. Nightwish writes symphonic metal, where the emphasis is on all the instruments working together, so Emppu's solo's only provide what composition needs. No more, no less. If called upon, he can shred with the best of them. His power stance is just his thing, part of his interaction with the crowd, not to compensate for sub par technique.

If you are looking for egotistical musician that want to shred all the time and show off their individual technical skills, then Nightwish may not be the band for you. Nightwish is composed of highly skilled individual musicians that are dedicated to creating and performing great music that is melody and composition centered and focuses on the vocals, poetic and meaningful lyrics, as well as interesting and varied musical compositions and song structure. Many songs do not have individual solos and when they do occur, they are done with taste and only what the song requires over ego. It is kind of like listening to a singer that constantly uses melisma to the point of oversinging. These types of vocalists simply try so hard to impress that it takes away from what is attempting to be a great piece of music and degenerates into senseless trash. How many times can you listen to Yngwie Malmsteen and others shred up and down the guitar neck before you have had enough. Impressive granted but boring from musical and compositional standpoint. However a great song performed with emotion and conviction never gets old. Just my opinion?

Well, sometimes no need words, face tells a story :D Nightwish have now 9 studio album, a couple of singles (songs which are not included those albums) and several live dvd/blue ray from past 20 years. List from "Floor era videos": Buenos Aires 2012 one song (GLS), Wacken 2013 whole concert, Tampere 2015 whole concert, Wembley Arena 2015 whole concert, about 10 songs from different concerts and countries 2015, Buenos Aires 2018. Wacken 2013 is already a legend. Everything went there correctly, even weather. But also those others have their points. Like Tampere 2015, their 20 years anniversary show, they just put some extra there, what we can see in last song! Wembley 2015, sold out (12500 people), first Finnish band ever played there as a headliner (not first Finnish band, cos their support band played before them - and it was also Finnish band!!! :D ). And famous Buenos Aires, that audience!!! And almost forget, Wembley 2015, after finishing last song, world famous scientist Richard Dawkins comes on stage and read few words to the ending. That was big surprise, what can see from audience, their faces. That album 2015 was really connected to science, and Dawkins read also some line s in that album. So, that´s why then they got him to come also on stage! Just think that situation when 74 years old professor steps out, in metal concert!!! Both Tuomas and Floor were thinking scientific career after school, but music took them - our luck. But loss to the science. I believe they both could have been good in their scientific career. Both were dreaming to come a biologist. Actually Tuomas even started university, but stopped it after just several months. When Tuomas and also Floor were in school, they both were dreaming to be a biologist. And that never happened, but still, their names can be found in biology... A new insect species, Sciophilia holopaineni, discovered by a Finnish biologist named Jukka Salmela, has been named after Tuomas Holopainen, because of Holopainen's love for nature. In 2018, a new species of beetle was discovered by scientist Andreas Weigel. It was named after Jansen, dubbing it "Tmesisternus floorjansenae". It´s quite rare to get own name mentioned in animal name, but here we have in one band TWO members who has got their names given to newly found animal!!! Now, when you have read those other NW fans writings here and add this, you start to get picture, why we don´t think them to be just an ordinary band... :)

It sounds like you started with ghost love score and that’s usually the starter and it’s a good one, but this band has so many different lanes. it’s pretty amazing and there’s so much to hear and see because a lot of their best stuff is live. And that’s something to say right there.

You’re going to love Seven Days to the Wolves Wacken 2013. All of these musicians are incredibly skilled. They only do what the song requires as it was written by Toumas, the keyboard player. This band has no room for egos. This has not worked well in the past with former members (excluding Jukka).

I reccomend Sabaton - Resist and Bite (Live Wacken) Next, these guitars are just breaking ground. Or listen to Metal Crüe (Live Wacken) Also really good Floor is married to their drummer (Hannes van Dahl) and they got a 2.5 year old daughter, Freja van Dahl. They both would love a collabiration between eachother, thus Nightwish + Sabaton Thats gonna be epic Why do I love these both bands so much 🤘🤘🤘 Like Sabaton's song Metalizer states: "The best heavy metal comes from north" Keep rocking

Great reaction video. Thanks. 🤘🏿🤘🏽🤘🏻 As a guitar teacher you might know her, but if you want to see really impressive guitar work, then please do a reaction to Tina S with her version of the Moonlight sonata.

I just caught your video for "Ghost Love Score" Tarja version and had to backtrack to the beginning of your Nightwish journey. lol To start, yes, Floor has a softer voice, extremely versatile, with an equally impressive range which makes her the perfect fit for this type of music. She belts out high notes as you heard here in Romanticide (that was 3 octaves up) and has the breath control to hold those notes for what seems like an eternity. She can also put growl in her voice as she has experience (in her band ReVamp) much to the likes of Corey Taylor from Slipknot. (react to "Disdain" by ReVamp for some of that). She also has a soft side to her voice her mixed voice, and of course her operatic voice. Tarja is an outstanding singer but for some reason have a hard time favoring her extremely heavy accent and her very rough tone. I know she is strictly "opera" and that is her style of singing, but not all songs have to be sung at one volume level to try and a) push the accent to the side, and b) as an attempt to try and pronounce every word perfectly. But that's just me. I do love her solo stuff. Very beautiful, I did enjoy it. Enjoy your Nightwish journey. 😊❤🤘🤘
