Don't force yourself to "move on" and date someone else when you are still in love with someone who may not be there for whatever reason. Be patient, or even pine for someone all your life if that's where you are truly at - without posing a threat to anyone, of course. Authenticity / integrity always helps. Don't jump to conclusions when people fail to show up. And if you do not want to feel shitty and regretful about your choices, do not act when in confusion. Do not have sex just because someone is available, when you are in fact thinking of someone else and share no emotional connection with this other, available person. Our ego may try to deny this, but sex is not merely consensual bodily contact. It affects us on many levels of mind and spirit too.
