Eastern vets have nostalgia for the campaigns, joking about broken limbs from chargers and acid burns from spewers or that scream Joey made when that stalker got the drop on him. I was assigned to the liberation of Veld. Was there when I got the news. It weighed heavy on my heart. I always wondered if I could have made a difference if I had been there, supporting my brothers. Then I got recalled for the emergency defense of Mantes, and I realized how naive I was. Those bots... they take everything from you. We had to call in almost all of strategems for one tank, and then they dropped another right on top of us, with 10 devastators not far behind. I almost missed the stalkers. At least the stalkers you could run away from, if you were lucky. There is no escape from the bots.

Well, the lifespan of a Imperial Guard in 40k is 15 hours on the battlefield. The devs of Helldivers stated that the lifespan of an average helldiver is only 2 minutes on the battlefield. Talk about the meatgrinder eh

Even the bug killers do their part. Have you ever been to the Orion sector? I lost dozens of good helldivers spreading democracy to those fuckers in Veld. And after we wiped them off the face of Heeth, they dared to show their faces back in Umlaut. I don't think I'll ever fully get the sand and bile out of my armor from the time I spent in Erata Prime. Honestly, I preferred fighting the bots too, but my democracy officer said those planets took priority. I didn't even know about the fall of the Creek until I returned to Ingmar

I promised his mom i would never let go of her son, i promised that the day we set off. When we deployed to that planet, that hell scape, i knew it would be luck that brought us home. Don't blame yourself. When me and my squad first deployed two of my squad mates didn't even make it out of the drop pods. The third was ripped apart like something you see on those horror movies. I was left alone as the sole survivor to complete the objective by guerilla warfare and get to the dropship. By the skin of my teeth I made it and at that time I was reinforced by a secondary dreadnought but by that point it didn't even matter my entire squad was dead. My first deployment was to the creek... I had just come out of training when I received my first assignment to take my Super Destroyer to join my friends who had already enlisted, and report to Malevelon Creek. We were sent to hold a small facility in the middle of nowhere and mow down as many of the damn bots as we could. I'll never forget the sight of limbs flying, the blood everywhere, the damned metal monsters who wouldn't stop coming. So many Helldivers died there but we managed to catch the last Pelican out by the skin of our teeth. I was a different man when I stepped back on my friend's ship, far different from the boy who had taken his first steps into the hellpod on the other side of the ship just a few hours before. I immediately sought reassignment to the eastern front to conduct solo operations, and it was a while before I returned to the western front to fight the bots again. I hate the bugs and their disgusting forms and attacks, but I fear those red eyes far more, I see them in my dreams and sometimes in my waking moments... Never forget the creek.

When we got there we managed to rescue the civilians but at what cost? Only 2 of our 20 man platoon got back to the Pelican. I haven't been in the Creek since but everytime I close my eyes to sleep... I wake up there

My dad served as a helldiver. He fought the bugs and it didn’t affect him that much from what I saw. He killed bugs at home aggressively and sometimes laughed about it. He’d tell stories about some of the nasty things he killed. But then… he dropped to the creek. He never said he went there, never talked about it, but mom knew, my older brother knew. We didn’t drive at night because the rear taillights made my dad “angry” and “upset” from what mom said, I didn’t get it. Then we caught him trying to cut the power to the house. We didn’t have power for weeks, living in darkness, my dad just running from room to room, calling out to squad mates that weren’t there. Then the tears, the next morning he would stare into nothing. Eyes bloodshot, hands shaking. I don’t know, for democracy right? I told him I’m a be a hell diver today thinking I’d make him proud. He stared me in the face and said don’t go to the creek. I didn’t have a choice. I dropped out of my pod and we pushed through. Today we liberated the creek, I called my dad on the way back, told him what we did. He couldn’t stop crying, I just stayed on the line with him, what was left of him anyway. For democracy… Right??

I remember my first deployment to Malevelon. Prior to that I had never fought a bot, I was only deployed on the Terminid front. You see the bugs, they were easy. They’d run at you all bunched up like, made it seem like a game of wack-a-mole!… but those bots… they didn’t do that. They didn’t depend on their claws, teeth, or short ranged acid. Hell, they didn’t really swarm you like a bug either. No… when I first dropped there… when I first looked them in their lifeless eyes… I don’t think any of us were ready… not one.

I didn't make it through Helldiver training due to medical condition and it haunted me to this day. I remember a kind Hell Diver cadet, Megan I think. Soft smile, warm laugh, beautiful hazel eyes, and something that just drew me to her. She was not disappointed in me like the rest of the cadets or as I was in myself because my body could not hack it even with augments. She only told me that I could still do my part in other areas and I listened to her. Something always drew me to her and I listened, going to the armaments factory on Super Earth. I worked and I felt tired, but I could not let myself down again. Every shell I helped test and make was another shell for Megan and the other Hell Divers to smash those metal mother fuckers into junk. She was allowed to visit on shore leave with her unit and she always held that soft smile and warm laugh when she saw me. I paid extra credits and filled out all the forms that my democracy officer gave me to purchase some of the more exotic shells I made from the factory. Before her unit was called to the creek, I gave her these shells and prayed that they helped her out of bad situations. I didn't know what happened, but we were all called to the auditorium as new blasts hit the net. We saw the Hell Divers struggling valiantly at Malevelon Creek, giving their all in a doomed enterprise. I saw Megan fall in the news blast cause I always recognized her armor. She let me decorate her pauldrons with her unit insignia and she added our initials to them without me even knowing. I felt burning rage and my coworkers all saw my face and were concerned. I told them I knew the Hell Diver in the reel and they offered their condolences. I got up before the blast ended and was questioned by my democracy officer, which I told him, "I have work to do. I'm going to smash those metal mother fuckers into junk." He let me go back to my bench and I kept making shells. Megan, you gave me purpose again when I thought I lost everything. I will always cherish your smile and laugh in my memory where you will always live. Thank you to you and the fallen at Malevelon Creek. I was the only one who had experience against those damn clankers…oops robots. Boys weren’t the same after that. At first it was just another planet in route to be liberated but in one day the robots turned up the difficukty so high that the planet was lost in a matter of hours, the robots were endless and started attacking from multiple fronts it turned into a unwinnable battle.

During my final deployment to Malevolen Creek my Squad and I were sent to take out a number of Factories creating the Automatons. While we were making our way to the last of the factories, we got surrounded on all sides by heavy patrols. We did what we could but there were too many of them. The Eagles couldn't make it and our ships were out of range. One by one we fell to the machines. Our squad leader died drawing the heavier ones away from us. Our second took himself out with one of those flamethrower mechs. The 4th and I created an opening to escape to the exfill, but she was hit by a rocket trooper that we missed on a nearby hill. I was left with a broken arm, one mag in my pistol, and a heart full of grief. I just barely escape the combat squad that attacked the landing zone. Remember their story, for we shall retake The Creek from those bots.

Couldn't help but admire his loyalty to our super governement despite the malfunction in his suit that caused his very-blindness. My buddy and I had a Cadet join up with our squadron. she had just gotten out of her first campaign against the Bugs. she said a friend of hers had joined the defenses of Draupnir. he never made it out, so she joined up and got her feet wet with the bugs before saying she wanted to bring the fight to the enemy at the Creek. I refused so hard saying she wasn't ready to face the Creek. I lost two cousins, my uncle and older brother during the Massacre, I didnt want to see this young woman perish like they did. I told her she wasn't ready for the Creek, and my buddy goes, "she'll never be ready, cause none of us were ready, and we'll never be ready for the Creek. we just go and fight because if we don't then all of it was for not." she cried inside Falcon 1 after we extracted, successfully launching an ICBM into the enemy lines. I haven't seen that hopeful spark in her eyes since.

I served on the creek with a fellow helldiver by the callsign "Seadogs". Seadogs was a funny fellow. Always had a joke or two to say, and nothing seemed to rattle him somehow. We met during a blitz mission on Malevelon Creek not too long after I was made Sergeant from successful missions against the bugs on Meridia. Seadogs was the only one who had been assigned on the mission other than me. We took on the automataton bases with a decent bit of stealth. We hit them hard and fast and then faded out into the jungle before the clunkers could formulate a response. For all his humor Seadogs was surprisingly coldly professional at times, and highly competent. I used to carry a supply pack to keep us stocked and he joked he always sticks with his quartermaster since he'd never run out of stims because he had to survive to "make some big titty super earth woman his wife" We were assigned next to a mission launching an ICBM. We were assigned two cadets with us, who were eager to spill oil. I chatted with them but Seadogs held back. He didn't joke as much with them as he did me. When I asked he said "I only become friends with those I think will survive the mission" The cadets were eager to spill oil and engaged every patrol they saw. Seadogs and I had mostly used stealth and guerilla tactics, and he kept advising the cadets to avoid patrols instead of engaging them. But high on their early successes, they didn't listen. They engaged a patrol on a hilltop where they had the high ground and their stalwart heavy machine guns littered the ground with oil while they laughed. Seadogs motioned to me to move on. "Objective takes priority," he said grimly "They're being a good distraction, let's move on." "Shouldn't we help them?" I replied, knowing he was probably right but didn't like the thought of leaving comrades to fight without us. "We have a mission to do. We die here it doesn't get done. Come on," he said. I followed him into the jungle as the sound of gunfire and mad laughter echoed behind us. As we finished the objective the mocking laughter on our radios turned into cries of terror and pleas for help. By the time we reached extraction, there was nothing on the radio but silence. We extracted alone. Seadogs didn't joke much that time. Our last mission together was supposed to be a challenging one, but mission control clearly got the intel wrong. It was a suicide mission. Upon our drop we were beset with tanks and clunkers in exo suits. For days, We carved a bloody path through their forces but they just kept coming. Our reinforcements arrived and would die as quickly as they came, blood and oil mixing on the jungle ground as we fought a running battle to activate an old SEAF artillery cannon and upload some critical data to Super Earth's databases. Some kind of atmospheric interference was making it hard to get accurate readings sent to our destroyers, so it took longer than normal for us to get supplies or orbital support. We found ourselves near extraction, but with an army of clunkers between us and escape. I told him we should try to call down some turrets to distract them, and sneak by while they are busy. "That's a good idea man," he said cheerfully and then stood up and began to open fire at the bots, quickly taking out the nearby patrol but alerting the others who came to investigate. Seadogs threw a few turret deployment beacons down near his position and took cover behind a rock. "Are you crazy?! What the hell are you doing?!" I asked him. He laughed, and I could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "I'm being a good distraction. " He fired a few more rounds at the bots, drawing even more to his position. "Go," he said. "I'll hold them here. If we both tried for it, we'd die. This way at least one of us has a chance," I hesitated, wanting to argue. Seadogs suddenly hugged me. "Go brother. Live free for both of us," So...much to my shame. I ran. I made it to the extraction beacon without trouble, the bots were focused on the enormous rucus Seadogs was making as he spilled oil by the gallons and split metal into shards with his autocannon. Anyone even getting close to spotting me was immediately blasted to pieces by gunfire as Seadogs covered my escape. Finally, when the extraction was 20 seconds to touchdown, I got my last sight of my brave companion, my brother in arms Seadogs. He had climbed to the top of a rock, a sea of metal monstrosities surrounded him on all sides. He had called down several strikes onto his own position. The delay in triangulation for our destroyers had given him time to mark multiple targets at once, including the mini nuke we had liberated from the SEAF artillery cannon. Our eyes met across the battlefield, and he saluted me. One final act of bravery as monsters of metal climbed up behind him, raising their chain blades to strike him down. Then they disappeared as the whole world went white as several explosions went off at once. I don't know if my blindness was from staring at the explosion or my own tears, but I don't remember much other than stumbling onto the escape craft after that point. Rest in peace Seadogs. The Creek may have your body but your spirit will live forever.

Never forget the hero’s sacrifice. In my squad we had a battle against a level 3 base of automatons. The first man died by getting shot in the leg and then was torn apart by three berserkers. The second man got directly hit by a rocket, and died instantly. The third was unlucky, he tried taking a hulk on his own he won surprisingly, but was out of stims and bleeding. Before the reapply could arrive he got a round in the head and died. I was the only one who made it out alive of my helldiver team.

Just got done with my appointment at the super VA. I was wonded by a chainsword devastator in the first few days of malevolan creek. Lost my right arm and leg. Ive been confined to a super wheel chair and just got approved for a super prosthetic. Which is great and all. But once the surgury is done they are sending me back to the front. I hope they send me to fight sone bugs...
