Hi George it’s Katie from Iowa! Our daughter goes to college at the U of O in Eugene Oregon. We bought her a car and drove it out to Oregon from Iowa. We stopped at many cool places along the way. One of them was Devil’s Tower! It was one of my favorite places on the trip out there. Thank you for sharing this ❤

Loved the Jim Nabors album. I had a real thing for his voice when I was about five. He really could sing, something you wouldn't expect if all you knew was his TV characters. BTW - scored my first piece of Sascha Brastoff at an estate sale recently. Tipee-style ashtray. The estate sale company had it priced...$2. Co-branded for Canadian Club no less. I could see George hauling it off with alacrity and did likewise. Found an amber Blenko dish in the Free pile...my favorite price!

Leroy Dodge Brown has been a great van for me! Dodge was actually known for trucks more than cars in the early days, that's why Chrysler was willing to buy them from the Dodge estate after both Dodge brothers sadly died in the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1920.

Good evening, George. I liked that poker chips set. It would've tempted me. The shaving mug was my kind of thing. Geez! All those barrister bookcases. I could see a room lined with those. We knew Cary Guffey and his family - the little boy in _Close Encounters of the Third Kind_ when he was in the movie. His grandparents were close friends of our family. That Devil's Tower brought back memories. That first Raku piece really interested me. I liked that piece. It had a great organic look about it. I don't see _anyone_ liking those blasted geese again 😝😂 Those were some fun places to shop. Thanks for the take-along!
@TheAntiqueNomadАй бұрын
I would absolutely fill a room with barrister bookcases if I had the space, and then fill them too! Maybe with a shelf of poker chips and game stuff, and a shelf of shaving mugs and related...I've always liked the occupational shaving mugs the professionals would leave in Victorian barber shops as a form of advertising/braggadocio. Interesting you knew a child actor, I don't think I've ever met anyone of that walk of fame. Devils Tower was new to me but I've always wanted to see it, Xeno recommended I take the detour and I'm glad he did! The first Raku was definitely the one I should've bought. Lol, I know everyone in the comments was against the return of the blue geese, but as popular as they were, you know that someone young now had a grandma that had them, so I suspect we'll see them in our dreams (or nightmares, lol)!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUSАй бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad If I had a room full of barrister bookcases, you know they'd be filled with beverage sets 😂 I like the old shaving mugs, too, but I think two of them is all I have. We knew Cary's grandparents and his mom, Sue, for many years. I think he stopped acting in the mid eighties. Oh geez! Those blue-bowed geese are horrid. I never liked those things when they were popular. There were even paper napkins with those things on them. They were like a plague 🤣
@TheAntiqueNomadАй бұрын
@ lol yes the paper napkin company brought that design to a consortium of houseware makers because department stores wanted matchy-matchy lines in the 80s and the blue geese were born. The Treasure Craft founder’s son had just taken over and I got the feeling from his face when he told me the story that he wasn’t a fan, but he’d made an agreement to produce the designs the consortium voted for and the Blue Geese was one. He said in retrospect that it was a huge thing for them at the time and he was lucky that he was outvoted
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUSАй бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad He might have felt it was a good thing as far as business revenue, but did he tell you...or would admit to it...if he ever had any of the things in his home? 😂 It would've been fun to be the "fly on the wall", at some of the meetings with the consortium, when it came to some of the things that were presented. I wonder how many, "You gotta be kidding me!", statements were made 🤣

@@TheAntiqueNomad gorgeous . That space was merchandised very well with the cars being the focal point I thought . Lots of merchandise , but not over stuffed . Easy to find stuff one may be interested in . But they have the space that’s much bigger than a lot of antique malls rent to tenants . I remember one antique shop that was just hoarded here . He had the whole building to himself . But hard to shop , plus he hardly had sales . His shop is gone , don’t know if he sells on line or retired .

The geese with blue motifs coming back in style surprises me lol it was never a timely motif or design in my opinion. Perhaps because I already experienced it in my lifetime, so to me it's not really old enough to come back in fashion. Perhaps I'm getting old too haha!

I understand, most people who lived through it are not fans now, but someone's grandma had it in 1990 who is now old enough to remember it with fondness

When I lived in small town/rural area in SD in the 1980s-90s the women in the area had "Birthday Clubs" and would get together once a month and play cards and the Snack Sets were used a lot. I had at least a dozen so when I had to host, there were enough to serve cookies and coffee on them.
