I went back to Nepal recently and made another movie about my trek through beautiful Langtang National Park. I had a better camera on that trek, so it's a higher quality video. You can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXeUfXR4q9yDftE

At age 69, I trekked for a couple of weeks with a Nepalese friend/guide and a friend of his. Your video is great! Soothing voice (no raucous music), and I admire your humility and good sense regarding resting when that's what makes sense. Magical white horse. Wish I hadn't missed it. Happy travels to you, my friend.

Plenty of other treks in Nepal that are less hard and supplied with porters, I once went on a Trek through my uncles trekking company and the guests were all over 60 years old, 5 day trek with lots of nice views, everything carried for you, by the time you reach each resting point, the tents are set up, the hot tea and food ready, you just sit at the table and relax and enjoy the breath taking views.

I guess you should give it a shot. You can start preparing at least two months before you plan to trek. When i trekked this year in April, one guy from Manchester who was in his fifties tagged along with us and he was able to trek all the way through with relative ease. ABC trek is a relatively simple trek and one of the most popular one after Everest. Good Luck :)

Sharon Robinson I suppose everyone has that feeling. I'm 23 and I'm wondering if I'll ever get such considerable time off to go for 2 weeks of Trekking. But I have to make up my mind and find time for it. 59 is a perfect age for such treks provided your body cooperates. Just go for it.

I was in Nepal in 1980 on the hippy trail only to return in 2003 for the Anapurna circuit. Next year, I went to Lang Tang after relocating to SE Asia. Back in 2005 for Everest base camp. Then I came here with my youngest son in 2007 from Sichuan province China my new home to explore the Himalaya there. We returned in 2011 for the circuit. Hope to go back this October with him for somewhere in the far west to try to recapture the vibe in 1980. I guess I like this place somewhat. Now I'm living in the Philippines exploring the beaches in another paradise.

Thanks for putting together your video. Ever since happening on a few articles on Upgraded Points, I've been doing more and more research into vacations focused around a specific activity (e.g. trekking, surfing, climbing, etc.). I love that more travelers are doing this today rather than lounging in resorts.

Gabriel, this has to be one if not my favorite video along with the hike in Hawaii and riding a bicycle. I love that you are just not showing us bus rides and walking around looking at restaurants and places to eat and buying things. I really appreciate this and the other videos of you that I previously mention. I will put this hike and the Hawaii on my list for places to visit and do things. Awesome video. Thanks for posting.

36:16 It's just gorgeous, isn't it. Many years ago I used to want to live in the Himalayas, during my meditation phase I had a fascination with Nepal and all that, I wanted to find a cave up there and gain enlightenment by meditating upon Nothingness lol. I even contacted the Nepalese Embassy asking if it was possible to become a permanent citizen. When I was a very young child, I had a couple of extremely strong ambitions to live in very remote solitary locations, permanently. For example, for a couple of years around age 8, I was set on going to Antarctica when I reached adulthood and living there, completely solitary and self-sufficient, for the rest of my days. No tech or anything, just living in an igloo and living off penguin and seals. Funny eh. I was so set on doing that for quite a while lol.

Haha, well it's what brings me to such videos and to see the mysteries of the world. I think what i meant was..the fire is your child-like self, and if that passion still resonates then why not ! Because that is a step closer, and meditation was the tool, to the 'enlightenment' of realizing/remembering who you truly are. You start questioning the universe and your place in it, the truth simply appears before you ! Much love friend.

I understand, it's a nice analogy. Thank you. I've kinda moved on from that way of conceiving the nature of enlightenment, meditation, and how to live, although parts of those micro-paradigms do form a part of my current paradigm just like how vitamin A, B and C forms part of the apple proper that I now perceive. I was polarizing parts of reality and wouldn't want to start guzzling straight Vitamin A again because that would result in a state of imbalance.. Virtually all spiritual programs are polarizations of reality, but we have to collect the parts in order to put them together, that's the growing journey, a journey that never ends. It is kinda cute reminiscing though!

Thank you Gabriel, your story beautifully and humbly told, a real pleasure for me to accompany you, first time I have been taken back to my own trip back in September 1983! No videos then, but magically blessed by great weather, a fabulous guide Dennish, my beautiful (1st) wife Lisa, who grumped her way up in immaculate white socks, shirt, and (almost ironed) army shorts. Aso with us was Gail, a lovely US'er. Dennish and I (typical male!) would storm ahead and roll up in time for Lisa to turn the corner and smoke her medicine, sometimes sourced from plants growing on the way. I remember the awesome scales, not least of the glacier that passes Base Camp east. I went off solo fora short jaunt, and amidst the snow of a local slope found tracks of a size that made me think of the renowned Yeti!, though probably something lesser or more, perhaps a snow leopard?? Hope my story is not too long, but like you Gabriel, and all the others, it is an experience that blesses you for life. Boumshanka to all!! xxx

Watching this and listening to Yakes bell made me wanting to go back again. I am 73, i spent 72nd birthday on top of the EBC, and it was most precious and memorable moment in my entire life. I trekked ABC first to the top to train my body for altitudes and strengths to hike multiful days and took a helicopter down to see the HIMALAYA mountain's from the air and to save my knees just in case anything happen to my knees( I gotta be cautious at my age) My main goal was to trek EBC, so I was cautious and trained body and mind. What a beautiful place that I only thought it would remain as only a dream to trek MT. EVEREST, specially my age but i accomplished it with dreligent research and traning for 5 months at the gym plus hiking some mountains near me. I plan to go back after my next goal/ dream trek the roof of Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. Thanks for your video.
