Agnostic Monk Were we watching the same series? Kirk treated the women on his crew with great respect. Those he loved dearly were usually the ones who challenged his thinking or inspired him to a degree (Edith, Marcus). Shame how pop culture osmosis has mutated Kirk’s reputation into a shameless womanizer like Riker. Kirk and Janeway probably would have disagreed on things, but probably no more than Kirk would argue with Spock or Bones about a course of action. Janeway in addition said she respected Kirk for pioneering the wild frontier and imagined it would have been exhilarating to be on the Enterprise during those days. She was simply commenting on the changing times and goals of Starfleet since then. Just as Star Trek has evolved since the original series to be far more cerebral and morally grey than action oriented with more good vs evil premises.

This one scene speaks volumes about Spock and Picard. After seeing the Enterprise all but destroyed and Sulu’s Excelsior cut to pieces, as well as Kirk’s son brutally murdered so soon after he made peace with his father, I can understand Spock’s reluctance to involve anyone else - above all his father! - in his actions. As a Starfleet Officer, and thus de facto Federation Junior Ambassador, Picard positively will NOT abandon his duties to protect a Federation Ambassador or the Responsibility inherent in those duties. As much as they are growing to respect each other their views of personal responsibility and duty has put them at cross purposes.

Indeed, also _Star Trek: Picard_ has since recently canonized the fact that there exist multiple physiological-variants of Romulans in canon (which accounts for Eric Bana and his crew from the 24th Century with their smooth foreheads in the 2009 J.J. This episode aired in 1991 of course, shortly before Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was released wherein the overture of peace to the Klingons and the involvement of Kirk and his crew Spock mentions took place, so fans got to see exactly what he was talking about. The movie used tweaked sets from TNG for some scenes (the dining room on the Enterprise A is the conference room behind the bridge on the Enterprise D for example), and Michael Dorn makes a cameo as Worf's ancestor, General Worf, who defends Kirk and McCoy during their trial.

The Star Trek six references were real, it makes sense though considering the first part at least (From my recollection) was dedicated to Gene at the time of his death in 91 as undiscovered country was. I love to be chemistry between Patrick and Leonard, It gets you in the Star Trek fandom feels

That's true this episode came out right before Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country. They need a way to promote the film, So Leonard Nimoy agree to do it for the SAG Minimum amount back in the day

It must have been so weird watching this when it first aired, and suddenly needing to know what the hell Spock was talking about with Kirk and peace with the Klingons, since The Undiscovered Country had not come out yet. When TNG was airing, until TUC released, no one knew what had happened to Kirk and the old Enterprise.

It was so much weirder if you add in the fact that TUC had the first connective tissue from the movie franchise back to TNG. Michael Dorn would play the grandfather of Worf who was Kirk and Mccoy's defense attorney during their trial on Kronos. It was as if 1991 was the beginning of Star Trek turning into an interconnected universe in that a running series which was at the height of its popularity (about 26 million viewers a week) was referencing the events of an upcoming motion picture and that film would finally reveal that Kirk's crew had a major role in setting up the Federation/Klingon alliance, which was a key plot point driving Galactic politics going into TNG and later, DS9.

Oh wow i wish we could have had another meeting between Picard and Spock where Picard would have told Spock about Kirk and the nexus.

Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart. I mean it these two are acting titans! It's so hard to find actors of this quality today and people who are making Star Trek movies have a hard time finding talent like this today.
