Ha! The title on the video says "Lincoln Navigator". My apologies but that gaffe will be staying. It's an Aviator. Really.
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator will carry the clan from the wilderness to the mall in grand style. But for extra power and efficiency, the Grand Touring is the way to go. This plug-in hybrid can run on electricity alone and launch like a rocket. Tom Voelk travels to Yountville, CA to check out this fast luxurious hybrid.
Lincoln Motor Company arranged travel and lodging for this video. Opinions are strictly independent.

Tommy Evans I’m sick of every car trying to be a German car when they’re clearly not, not everybody wants sporty driving dynamics and not all of us want the headaches that come with German cars like the thousands of electrical issues these cars are plagued with. Last month I was at Ford dealership to pick up my new car n asked if I could test drive the Aviator, I was blown away by the refinement and the comfort of this car the car had a little sporty characteristic but you can tell it’s routes are of a pure luxury machine.

Xr4ti...Loved it. A friend thought it was "Exrati". Lol. Wondered how it would compare to the XT6. This what I thought Caddi should've been doing (innovating) instead of chasing the main stream players. Lincoln has turned one heck of a corner.

BUT, the KIA is a great SUV.
@blitzbbffl
@blitzbbffl 5 жыл бұрын
The largest difference is that the KIA has a Transversely mounted engine, and thus is a FWD-biased platform. The Aviator has a Longitudinally mounted engine and is a RWD-biased platform. Btw, the Longitudinally mounted engine allows Lincoln to electrify the drivetrain by inserting a slim pancake motor between the ICE and the Transmission - an elegant and linear solution.

Back in the day when kids (or at least "boys") inherited their father's automotive brand loyalty and political party preference I was a Ford guy. That rarely meant a Lincoln in our neighborhood but I did know a couple of kids whose families owned one. My family thought those people "put on airs." Of course there were lots of GM families, mainly Chevy folks in our neighborhood. And rare Chrysler Corp loyalists. Mainly Plymouth's with an occasional Dodge owner. Kids from those families talked about "Hemi's" but usually had a "Slant 6" in the family car. Furthermore, those guys were usually in the "audio visual" club in high school. They weren't cool but I think they grew up to drive BMW's and work at places like Microsoft. Much to my father's dismay when I bought my first car it was a Beetle. (It was the 60's.) Even worse, I became a Democrat. I still own a VW (a GTI) and the family SUV is a KIA. Fortunately, my Dad is no longer around to complain about my preference for "furrin" cars or Democrats. I still retain a soft spot for Ford products though. And each time I buy a new car I take a look at what Ford has to offer. (Last year that included a Fusion Sport and a Mustang.) I've even been lucky enough in my career to be able to consider a Lincoln. (And luck has a lot to do with that no matter what anyone says.) Nevertheless, I hear my parents' voice dismissing Lincoln owners as people who "put on airs." Some voices from childhood never disappear. The Aviator is undeniably impressive. And those who believe a Telluride or Palisade is a worthy competitor have to ignore a lot of luxury and innovative features in the comparison. But considering that the MSRP of the top trim Telluride leaves enough in one's wallet to purchase a Miata compared to a Black Label Aviator, I'd go for the KIA.
@keithginyard7696
@keithginyard7696 5 жыл бұрын
Stephen Hendricks Nice story, and i agree, the Telluride is pretty impressive but the interior of the Palisade is luxury personified. To each his own i guess, can't go wrong with either choice.
@stephenhendricks103
@stephenhendricks103 5 жыл бұрын
@@keithginyard7696 I've commented on this point on several threads so I'll be relatively brief here. The Palisade designed is built in Korea and designed specifically to appeal to international markets, especially those in Asia. What you characterize as "luxury personified" is especially appealing to nations with newly emerging middle class consumers where it's a vibe that conveys individual economic success, especially if it comes at a budget price. The Palisade is also designed for European markets where large SUV's come largely from luxury manufacturers. The top trim Telluride is also an upscale vehicle but it's meant to convey a more "rugged" image that's especially appealing in North America where it is built and sold exclusively. (It's not available even in Korea.) The Telluride's primary competition in North America is from mainstream manufacturers such as Ford, Toyota, Honda, and GM. And its mission is to provide more value for the price than those brands, not to compete directly with vehicles from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz. You're right, of course, that there are different strokes for different folks and the Hyundai/KIA conglomerate does a remarkable job of building vehicles that share components and features while appealing to somewhat different market segments.

I remember the Ford XR4Ti and Lincoln Merkur/Ford Scorpio back in the 80's. When I was in the Army stationed in Germany in the late 80's, our CO had an Army provided blue Ford Scorpio as his staff car. That car was very fast and we would "borrow" it on the weekends for a McDonalds food run to the next town over from our small base. 120 mph/200 kph easily on the autobahn

The power figures are awesome for a Lincoln. Even without the hybrid drivetrain the Aviator has good power figures. When I was in high school in the early 1990’s the only vehicles that had over 400 horsepower were Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s. The only American cars with that much power were the all new at the time Dodge Viper and the Corvette ZR1.

My major gripe with the grand touring is if you opt for the air suspension (a must imo), you lose the option of a 2nd row bench. Whereas the reserve and standard black label trims can have the 2nd row bench and still get air suspension. Doesn't quite add up, especially when you're spending an extra $8,000 over the reserve for a measly 18 miles and the extra power on an already powerful SUV.

It's amazing how many people are monolithic when it comes to reviewing vehicle segments. You can't just toss every 7 passenger SUV into the mix for comparison. I've been in the Telluride and it punches above it's weight but it's not a lux ute. Aviator will tear clients away from MB, BMW, AUDI and Land Rover. And I hope Volvo enjoyed its moment in the sun, because the Aviator has arrived.

Interesting that you say the hybrid system doesn't feel like a hybrid and that this feels a lot quicker than the V-6. Every other review I've watched/read said the hybrid is a bit strange and suffers from the same issues the Explorer hybrid does. They also say this doesn't really feel any quicker than the V-6 due to the extra mass. They also say the interior is lacking, with all kinds of plastic all over it where there should be metal (speaker covers for example) or other nicer materials. I still think it looks great though. Certainly spanks the XT6 around like a red-headed step child.

The weight difference is huge at 780 lbs. That's like losing 80 horsepower. I'm sure it feels stronger with all that torque but when I equipped two Aviators the same, the cost difference and weight difference pushed me back into the V6 only one. Ordered a loaded Reserve in Silver and Roast, after exchange rate in Canada it worked out to $62k USD, somehow nearly $10k USD cheaper to buy one in Canada. And there's no Black Label available here.
