I think the reason for the wave strategy of the warriors is the fact that the ones in the back can't see through their allies, and so aren't aware of the army yet

It would be interesting to see less ambling around by the backline units. Maybe you could tell each unit where the center of mass of enemies was located? Maybe you could even add a leader unit that knows where enemies are better and can make allies follow him.

@@Zuzelo just a communications unit that alerts nearby units where the majority of the enemies are. i guess im talking about a scout, and then later add the commander unit that weighs the scout information and gives nearby units either the go ahead to head to enemies, or to hold the line

called it. with the big teams separated the warrior training didn’t know how to use superior numbers to charge en-masse and create a spearhead. Think pre WW1 battlefields: the “over the top lads, all together” stupidity against machineguns was a really good tactic before machineguns.

Currently the soldiers are controlled by the neural networks. I suggest adding a possibility to replace the "backend" of the soldiers with an AI that would demonstrate the desired behaviour. For instance, you'll be able to test how well the Musketeers would perform against the enemy whose brain is instructed to rush in the direction away from the wall and then start attacking (the grand offensive). This is how I imagine my own neural network tests would go.

I think they meant to program a very basic baseline AI to test/train the soldiers against, rather than each other. Something like a soldier that runs straight into the nearest enemy and attacks very dumbly

Great video. Laughed from moshpit being introduced. I have a question about training, how collaboration between agents was encouraged? Also, many warriors were standing still for the most of the battle, maybe that's because they were trained by moshpit spawning strategy, so in a way they expect enemies to be in their observation range. Would also enjoy seeing some obstacles on the map, like a wall or elevation (small hill) and see how the strategy evolves! W

Glad you enjoyed it :) The main encouragement for collaboration was team rewards and punishments for winning/losing. In case a team wins, the entire team gets a reward and all opponents are punished. That is a good theory why the are standing still. My assumption was that the warriors from the backlines were not seeing any opponents (because they were only seeing their allies from the frontlines), so they were just messing around. Once the front line died, they actually are able to see the enemies and start charging. Might be a mix of both

Perhaps Pogos just don’t see enemies from behind their buddies and just don’t know where to go to fight. Some ant-like mechanism could help - like a signal to neighbors: “enemy, musketeer, 12 o’clock, 200”

a thing you could change about friendly fire is that agents that are right next to one another dont hit each other but once there is a bit of a distance (like the lenght of one musket) they can hit one another, it feels to me the current set up rewards musketeers for being lone wolfs and not be a unit.

You could potentially include melee friendly fire but diversify melee troop types, such as spears which would be much stronger for formation fighting. Or cleaving glaives/poleaxes that have great reach and massive damage potential at the cost of their formation strengths.

I think they might have attacked at around 200 troops remaining because the amount of troops on the battlefield disturbed the pathfinding system you were using. They probably try to avoid each other right?

They have no path finding. They use raycasts to see the distance towards obstacles and then can decided to move/rotate in that direction

Warriors should be able to walk towards the enemy when holding the shield and rush .. as it is now the stamina is used up too fast I guess so they will not use it because punishment for no stamina left etc is too high

The whole idea with the battlefield went far less exciting than I thought it would be. The training just seemed wrong altogether. Warriors not understanding how to fight properly, muskets not using any strategy except to stand and shoot and etc. To be honest, there is barely any strategy here, only very rudimentary elements of fighting. Would be more spectacular to watch with proper training for each single unit, perhaps on a much smaller board so they understand the basics of fighting. You don't train a bunch of robots in one shot. You train one good robot which you make a bunch of. I'm by no mean a programmer but I don't think just making the training extremely long would be efficient with such a poor training
