Wow! I thought I knew prepositions quite well, but your presentation was so good that I learned a couple of new things, reviewed what I already knew, and wanted to save this for the future (I did mark your channel as my favorite). Thank you, Zuzka! A good comprehensive review!

Re your example "Chutná po čokoládě": Is it also possible to say "jako čokoláda" ?
@CzechbyZuzka Жыл бұрын
Ano! It is more common to say it that way: Chutná/vypadá jako + nominative

Excellent video. I actually first encountered this word "po" when making my video, 10 Survival Czech Words where I said you could say "poprosím" when ordering in a restaurant. I used it because it is easier than "dam si...." but I didn't quite understand how it translates to "I will have..." Can you explain here how it works with "poprosím víno" for example? Thank you.
@CzechbyZuzka2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this question. Czech prepositions and verb prefixes are related to each other. The prefix po- is used with perfective verbs (those talking about a finished action). *E.g.:* _Prosím tě o to. - I'm asking you to do it._ vs. _Poprosím tě o to. - I will ask you to do it._ *Here is more about what po- prefix can mean:* a) covering of a surface: polepit zeď - to cover wall with stickers/posters b) movement in various directions: pobíhat: run around c) gradual progression: popojít - to move forward just a bit

Děkuji za video, celá série je moc dobrá a užitečná, jsem jen trochu zmatená o pádech, který mám použít s předložkou, protože jsem slyšela, že předložka "podle" jde s druhým pádem (genitiv). Když říkám například "poznal její hlas po sluchu", to může být genitiv a nebo lokál, není možné poznávat pád.
@CzechbyZuzka2 жыл бұрын
Ano, to je pravda, _po + lokál_ a _podle + genitiv._ A bohužel u těchto slov je tvar maskulina úplně stejný: po sluchu / podle sluchu po hmatu / podle hmatu po čichu / podle čichu ale: po hlase i hlasu / podle hlasu

Are the forms "na cestě" and "po cestě" with the meaning "on one's way" synonyms?
@CzechbyZuzka2 жыл бұрын
They aren't. If you want to say: _I'm on my way,_ it's: _Jsem na cestě._ *Po cestě* means "on the way/while traveling": _Po cestě ti zavolám. I will call you on the way._

Basically it works like in other languages that also decline( declination cases)...you need to feel what is saying...nedd to feel the use of the preposition

Proc cely češi řekl velmi rychle? Moc težky na rozumim...
@CzechbyZuzka2 жыл бұрын
I think every person may seem to speak quickly if it's in a langage we don't understand that well. Don't lose your patience and keep learning and listening, it will help you recognize the words and distinguish where each word begins and finishes. Hodně štěstí!
