Owners often underestimate leash control..thinking the dog just have to “listen” ..this is why 101 training is great for owners like her! Teaching them the basic techniques, markers and release comes as a major surprise to them..but I always like the surprised face owners make when a trainer takes over their “uncontrollable” dog and starts walking them normally

Great video! Its nice to see the process and progress of the dog and the human together. This is what I want to work on with my 10 month old golden. He pulls on our walks. The gentle leader helps but I eventually want to just have the leash on the collar!

I don’t suppose you could give advice on the basics. Sit, lay down etc. I have two 5 month frenchys and one of them is just destroying the house (eating everything, chairs, paper and what ever she can get her hands on) how do I control destructive behaviour?

Will any slip lead work? Does it need to be a certain thickness depending on the size and strength of the dog?
@masqparx81492 жыл бұрын
I'm about to have knee surgery, and I have a rescue dog that is very strong and is older than 4 years. The collar has helped a bit, but she relentlessly pulls me, and there's not enough give in the leash to pop a correction... ever. I'm nervous she may choke herself on a slip lead since she already chokes herself on a basic flat collar. I've tried for months, used treats, and play breaks, and I've been consistent. Is there anything else I could be missing?
@ericandcaprithepup2 жыл бұрын
She’s just used to pulling on a flat collar. Start your training inside the house, up and down the hallway, use a slip leash, teach that up on the leash means sit - say sit, then bring the leash straight up, and hold - no tugging no fighting. As soon as she sits, immediately relax. Very little pressure on and off so she learns what it means to follow the leash

@@ericandcaprithepup Thank you for your help, I've been struggling with her since I fell in December. 🙏 I'm a loyal follower of your videos, and you've taught me many things I would not have known otherwise. She is my first dog, and I've been watching your videos since I got her. You've been so helpful with her other behaviors, and other than the leash manners, and wanting to play with every dog, she has been responding well to the things I have learned from you. ☺ Thank you again for your time!

@ericandcaprithepup2 жыл бұрын
It's important to find what your dog cares about. If you want them to care about something, you have to also build that. You can get a dog that doesn't like food to like food, but those techniques can be found on my website www.ericandcaprithepup.com

Will this damage puppy neck when they start turning refusing to walk?
@stephenjacobsen4616 Жыл бұрын
mate, by the looks of it you're skilled enough allready to be able to invest in a whind shield (people with know-how on the subject could most deffinately guide you better on it), to avoid some some of the background wind/noice. Tho it is nice to know the settings better by the sound, it just caught my attention as being unpleasant. Now imma watch the rest of the vid. It'll prolly still as good as your newer ones. At least i believe so. peace

Never hand your leash to someone, especially another trainer, if you suspect they might "leash correct" or "pressure" your dog. Before a trainer ever does that, he would need to A. first see if he can modify the behavior using reinforcement (and yes you can and it doesn't need to be just food) and B. Discuss your other training options. I saw this video this morning, and all day long it bothered me. You have no right to leash correct someone else's dog without their explicit permission and understanding of what the options are. Continue your education! You need to consider the whole animal, the brain, the spirit, the thinking ability and give the dog the opportunity to solve problems in a friendly way. Some dogs might decide they don't like to be treated that way, especially by a stranger. And maybe they are intimidated by the stranger so they put up with it? But they don't like this sudden change and they may be stressed and they might not express that stress right in this moment, but they might get home from "work" and not be in a good mood. You don't need a slip collar, slip collars can really traumatize the relationship. Notice how at 3:55, the client is coached to have a thin slip lead up against the dog's throat, notice the expression on the dog's face. It's not happy. It's having an unpleasant moment of enlightenment. I'm not saying this can't work, but at what cost? There are other things that will work without costing the relationship. Message me and I can show you some alternative strategies.

Dog trainers are really human trainers. I wish I could get someone to train my partner - he inadvertently undoes what I do training our dog. Not purposefully - he just doesn't "get it" and I am not the right one to teach him.

@JennyYasi2 жыл бұрын
Look at how the poor dog is just avoiding looking at the human. I guess having a noose around your neck is stressful. Associating the other dog with leash corrections, wow, I hope the pet owner understood what you were planning to do. If this was me, and I brought my dog to you and you started correcting my dog, even with "ut ut!" I would be not happy. This didn't look like it was any fun for the dog at all.
