That's how you stay out of each other's way. If you learn nothing else from this, it's enough. Thank you Larry.

The guy has an encyclopedic knowledge of all forms of American music.

Perhaps it is the context of "a lesson" and a Jazz Hollowbody guitar ? Larry can deliver Blues, rock, fusion, psychedelic rock, avant guard as well as straight up Jazz , all with authentic feeling.

I refer you to 2:19: "Also, I THINK (emphasis mine), he (Albert K.) tuned his guitar different." Now, even if I do not know whether Robert J. clipped his nose hair, most sources agree that Albert did tune down. Now, your turn: what makes you assert that, despite this unassuredness, Larry's blues knowledge indeed is "encyclopedic." Anywho, I do think he is the guy to go to for jazz rock, and I did end up buying the first 2 volumes of his Grossman video series on Jazz, in fact that very evening.

Forget about BBKing, with all respect. Larry played circles around him. RiP Larry.

Well I did say his "musical" knowledge is encyclopedic. And, yeah he is the guy to go to for jazz/rock or jazz or creativity or inovation. What makes Larry or others of his talent or background.... authorities? That would be, in Larry's case, some 45+ years of professional playing with many, many elder greats until that point where he bacame an elder great. I applaud your purchase of Larry's dvds and hope that you do not take me too seriously as I like all good music and your comments.

It’s very interesting, the riffs he comes up with, but what he plays is not what he describes.

You would be wrong. Larry's musical knowledge is encyclopedic. I question your "aficionado" classification. However, if you are like many self procaimed blues aficionado guys you probably know the nose hair count of robert johnson.

Clearly, Larry's knowledge is not encyclopedic. When it comes to the blues, most of us blues aficionados know very well stuff he's just speculating about, such as Albert's tuning. He's also perhaps not the best instructor to show the kings' exact styles. It is interesting, however, to see how he's actually pulling out sounds that decently simulate those guys' mostly from ear memory.

I love Larry but his phrasing for blues in this manner not good at all totally missed the boat on this still one of my favorite players and teacher
