Amazing. This march became a symbol of Freedom as it was deeply connected to the 25th April 1974 revolution in Portugal. I didn't know it had a poem. Lovely, Thank you!!!

Do you know, I served in the Royal Marines Band Service for 10 years playing this as our Regimental March, and this is the first time I've heard the lyrics lol. Thank you ❤🇬🇧

Epes Sargeant (Who wrote the words) lived in Massachusetts, and Henry Russell (who wrote the music) lived in Kent. The song is about a place which is exactly half way between those two places....the sea.

More or less the same for the song “Kathleen Mavourneen”. It was sung by Catherine Hayes to Queen Victoria in 1849, and in the same year the composer, Crouch, moved from the UK to America. Ten years later it became a favourite tune in the American Civil War Also note that Henry Russell himself was also a part of this cross-Altantic experience. He left his home country to US from 1836-1841. This song was composed within this period.(1838), when he saw ships sailing into New York harbour.

Thanks Carrie, I just simply quote what is stated on the sheet music when recording and compiling the video etc. My source didn't acknowledge the lyrics writer in this case.
