The Corolla turns out to be one of the most versatile nameplates in history. It's been around forever, there have been sedans, hatches, liftbacks, coupes, and wagons. There have been boring Corollas, cute Corollas, ugly Corollas, diesel Corollas, hybrid Corollas, and sports Corollas. So why not a crossover Corolla? That's Toyota's logic to bring the Corolla nameplate into the 21st century, and I'm kind of OK with that. Although the interior is a scale model of the Corolla sedan and hatch, Toyota absolutely nailed the exterior design by mixing a little RAV and a little Highlander into this subcompact CUV.

I am pleased to hear this is bigger than the first 2 generations of RAV4s. I am still driving the 2nd gen. It is still going strong and I don't need a new car yet, and I definitely don't want to "upgrade" to today's bloated RAV4. This Cross would just come in handy. Carries the torch of the Corolla name fairly well I'd say. The driving performance is boring, but that's not why you're buying this - it's because you absolutely, positively need a daily that will go 100k+ miles before you ever have to worry about long term maintenance issues. If the money matters to you, then this vehicle is on the short list. AWD (or really good snow tires) is a must if you live in a place where winter is a thing.

I suspect this will sell like hotcakes in Canada assuming the price is right. Canadians are more price sensitive since cars are usually 20% more expensive due to currency exchange. Corollas are more popular than Camrys, as are Civics vs Accords compared to the US. These CUVs are the hottest selling segment too and if the AWD add-on is reasonable, it's going to be a hit.

Work at a Toyota dealership in Canada. Nobody has yet to come in and ask about this. The rumored hybrid probably will be rare; we can't even get a RAV4 Hybrid or other in a reasonable time anymore. Current wait times is over 6 months because Toyota isn't building much at all. Lots of cancelled orders and upset people. Honestly kinda disappointed by this. Seems really boring, and should have replaced the silly C-HR. Interior also seems like a downgrade quality wise from a Corolla.

Toyota is wise to stick with the Corolla formula. It's worked for them for decades. I personally find it a bit boring, but it obviously sells well. Hope they at least offer options for interior colors other than boring grey/black. And too bad they didn't design out that piece of the dash that protrudes into the door opening. It's a knee bash hazard. Wouldn't it be nice if Alex showed us the rear cargo area with the seats down so we could see how practical it would be as a cargo carrier? Is it flat, does the hatch shape and size allow loading of large items? Most buyers don't put people or roller bags in the rear of our cars, so we'd rather see what can fit in there from places like Home Depot, Ikea, etc. I'm sure journalists visit airports frequently and fill the rear with roller bags, but that's probably the exception.

I just took delivery on my 2022 XLE AWD Corolla Cross. I wanted something with safety features and with enough room for my golf clubs in the back. This car has every safety feature I believe in existence. the car looks and is much bigger than the corolla sedan. it looks like a RAV4 from the front and similar to many other sun's from the rear. Its 8.1 inch ground clearance gives it a bigger stance and a higher seating position. Handling is extremely good especially on curves and the noise level is much lower than expected. I work for a dealer, which cut out employee discounts due to ver few cars, so I paid full price, without some of the ridiculous add ons that some of them do. $30,050. Used RAV4 AWD are going for $40k so i opted for the Cross and am very glad I did. this car should sell very well, if they can get the chips to go in them. As soon as Toyota announces the hybrid Cross my name will be first on the list.

I like the idea of smaller, more efficient CUV-like vehicles since it would be nice to get people out of the cumbersome, inefficient hearses that seem to be so popular, but I wish Toyota would put some effort into making their cars even slightly interesting. The most interesting car under the Toyota name that they actually make is the RAV4 Prime. Everything else that is even slightly interesting (really only the Supra and the GT86) that are available in the US are made by other companies. They have the ability to build interesting cars (GR Yaris anyone?) but everything available here in the US is so bland and boring. Young, hip, active people don’t want a cardboard box for their brand new car, and they definitely don’t want it to take 12 seconds to get up to basic highway speeds when they have their friends in the car.

Yup. It's not a very impressive segment. The Kona is nice, but getting dated. The Kia Seltos is better, and may be the best current alternative. The lifted hatchback aspect puts me off the CrossTrek. It doesn't have the packaging advantages of a CUV, the main reason for getting one over a hatchback. We'll see whether the HR-V has been improved enough, as the old one had a feeble powertrain, weird styling, and a cheapish interior. It's only plus was the massive cargo space and clever rear seat. The Corolla Cross feels far more premium for similar money. The Kia Soul is homely and cheap-feeling, if well packaged, and the Venue is just plain cheap, without being cheap enough. The Nissan Kicks has questionable Nissan reliability, but looks like decent value as nobody would pay list for it. The Mazda CX-3 is old and cramped. The American brand options are all unimpressive. This looks like the best mainstream subcompact UV (SCUV?). The Kia Seltos gets honorable mention, and maybe the Kona because it comes in so many variants.

So many vehicles with all this black plastic wheel moldings, also along the bottom and front and rear bumpers. Looks OK on this Corola Cross but in a no go for me on the Mazda CX30 which has way to wide wheel moldings. Guess they save money doing this vs metal and paint which I prefer. I have a 2019 Highland and it looks good, but I do keep up with coating the plastic with UV protectant products. The CX5 looks a lot better than the CX30 but does cost more. I'm going to be helping my daughter with a car early next year and it will probably be a Corolla Cross LE or XLE or a base model Mazda CX5 which does come with a lot standard. This DOESNT include Alex, but i would really love to point this out. I can’t watch a renegade, compass, or even a old caliber review without hearing about how slow and bad the engine power is. Yet Toyota does it, and has been doing it FOR EVER yet gets the highest praise For it . Rav 4 is extremely underpowered and so is the crv. Imagine if Jeep only had the 2.4 in its Cherokee. The press would have a field day bashing it. We already hear it with renegade and compass. Nothing but a bunch of biased people with cameras and a following as far as I’m concerned.

Highway gas mileage is mostly due to aerodynamics, and stubby boxes are at a disadvantage. City mileage is mostly based on weight, so the CC would have a modest advantage. Combined the result is what you'd expect - pretty similar.
