A Local Golf Course Shut Down So I Can Hunt Iguanas. Today, Otto and I are heading back out to a local golf course to hunt iguanas. It's been a while since we've been out here and Otto was super excited to catch some iguanas. He's been working the canals a lot so this was great to get him out here for a couple days.

Retrieving is an addiction for certain dogs! My Lab did this when I would take him bird hunting. If you feed them first and then give them a good stout workout, it will cut down a lot of their overreaction and get them down to business!!

I remember seeing the burrowing owls in Cape Coral. I'm from Sarasota and I never heard of them there, but I saw them down south. Very cool. I hope they got the Nile monitor lizards under control there because they were eating the owls.

@@blackmesaoutdoors4863 they eat countless bird eggs per day, they eat all the native lizards and reptiles, and they consume small native rodents as well. It's another invasive species that's completely taking over an ecosystem and killing everything else because they have no natural predators.

a lot of people think that they were brought here illegally. But research says that Iguanas were naturally carried over by hurricanes and they just happened to thrive here for many decades. It's pretty much natural selection

Slugs cut thru the air much cleaner than pellets, they're not pushed off target so much by cross winds and they deliver more energy to target than any pellet. So a 22 cal slug going fast can take out any iguana much better than a pellet and if its fast enough out to 100 yards

I think I've said this before, but whilst I feel conflicted about hunting for sport and pleasure, when the target is an invasive species, I have no issues. If , in this case, iguanas aren't meant to be in that part of the world, then it is up to us, the species who introduced them into where they don't belong, to remove them. And if you can eat the meat ( or feed the dogs with it) and tan and use the skins, well, that's a bonus in my eyes!

OMG my local course. Fine work, sir! I'll miss Big Texas T-Rex on the island green. The Iguanas live in that whole canal system though and you'll even see them sunning several blocks down at the closest main intersection. Wish we could sign up to cull some lizards but there's too many houses around lol. edit: Wow, didn't know you took out the geese, too. I recall Fish and Wildlife actually introducing the geese to our neighborhood a couple years ago (maybe they were relocating them from the golf course?). They're not annoying, but the canada geese are awful. Springtree GC a little ways north has a massive goose population on their back 9, and the longest fairway next to the water is almost entirely green goose poop.

Hunting dogs are the best. We hunt moose here in nordics with dogs. We have Norwegian elk hounds to do the job. They go out and find moose and we come after them and try to sneak up on to them to get a shot.

You’re definitely do with the reintroduction of jaguars into the state. It’ll be interesting to see one eventually coyotes turn up in areas where you get green iguanas their impact on the population of them.
