looks like the headers pushed the O2 sensor location further back so a new hole was created to push the O2 sensor forward to fit into the underbody
@944obscene4 жыл бұрын
That's what I gathered. The factory location looked too close to the heat shield. Wasn't aware the Dinan headers did that, and wonder if that changes the mounting points for the mid-pipes. It must.
@paulsachs99834 жыл бұрын
Yes you can see the bend in the undercarriage of the body would interfere with the factory o2 placement.
@jeremyjova95184 жыл бұрын
The heat sink in the back by the rear tail lights is a voltage regulator for the LED turn signals to prevent hyper-blink. the fronts will also have them screwed somewhere too.

Could also be for the brake lights as they flashed on start up they them flash alternate sides every 15 seconds like the indicators do. The cold check for those bulbs needs coding out. I had it done on my 530d

I have a 2003 M5 Dinan S2. My Dinan headers end in a 2-1 not 4-1 and are a little bit shorter than his. The section with the o2 bung - on mine the factory bung is exactly in the middle of that length of pipe, his pipe is about one inch shorter on the tail end. (My car produced april of 2003, Dinan s2 package installed when new, window sticker reflects parts & labor. I purchased in 2006 with 3k miles, now has 46k. No exhaust work ever needed) I just recently found your channel, great stuff. Thank You.
@E39Source4 жыл бұрын
I found out later that these headers are not indeed Dinan, the sticker was added for different reasons (passing smog here in CA). Thank you for your input and support! The S2 package was around $50k, right? You've got a gem there.
@john-okc4504 жыл бұрын
@@E39Source Around 30k for parts and around 10k in labor. ( I don't have the docs in front of me.) I drove a regular stock M5 once and couldn't believe the difference. WOW. (I had to loose the lightweight flywheel it made the car un-driveable, bucking back and forth at low RPM.) 1st gear is useless, I takeoff in 2nd always, and only need 2nd and 4th for non highway driving.
@E39Source4 жыл бұрын
@@john-okc450 I have never driven a car with any more Dinan stuff than this M5. It was more difficult to drive for sure, but this is only because I am used to driving a more stock car. Bucking has never been an issue though! And I use all six gears haha
@john-okc4504 жыл бұрын
@@E39Source The lightweight flywheel revs faster but drops revs just as fast, combine that with the re-gearing and I had to slip the clutch just to get past 2k rpm in 2nd gear to avoid the bucking. And If I left traction control on it would come "on and off, on and off, on and off" so fast and violent that it could give someone whiplash. It wasn't until I changed to stock flywheel that I could leave traction control on at all, It's still a problem 20% of the time.

That's a poor statement. FYI old faded amber U.S. spec lenses and broken adjusters perform terrible while looking cheap.. Retrofitted euro lenses with, bixenon projectors, replaced adjusters, ballast, and bulbs.. Exceptional lighting performance, while looking classy, and not cheap FACTS

Hi Ryan, sorry for the off-topic but just wondering if you've actually ever seen a 09/99 production E39 M5, as that is supposedly the first production month for the NA-spec cars. Or alternatively what is the oldest one you've seen, thank you.

Hey Ryan, How was the leaking valve cover bolt fixed? I have this same problem on my ‘00.
@E39Source4 жыл бұрын
It will depend on why it's leaking. If the bolt is damaged, replace the bolt. If the o-ring was compromised, replace the o-ring. Otherwise you may need to re-tap the threads in the cylinder head which would be significantly more work.

The right tail lights on non-M5 E39s suffer from electrical contact corrosion due to the placement of the battery in that corner. You should get new wiring pins and a fresh connector on the harness, that will fix the trouble.
