The first Sly game is a weird case of trying to fit a racoon-shaped peg into a bandicoot-shaped hole. Still love it, but it's 2 where the series really finds its own direction. I can't blame it all on the port, because I remember the Mz. Ruby fight being hard as hell as a kid on PS2, but the remastered version breaks it so it isn't properly synced to the music which makes the timing way harder.

I’m excited to see how the second game plays out. As far as Mz. ruby goes, I think it’s a combination off dropped inputs and odd timing. Still a great concept though

Sly cooper deserves a comeback. Either sly 5 or a ground up trilogy remake will do.

i agree with you , i like the idea the atmosphere the characters and the plot , but being a first attempt it might became repetitive at some points , but its sure a game that doesn't gets unnoticed and might still catch the attention of today players . Also i agree with the demo part , really miss the magazine along with the demo disc where you could get a taste of the game , there are still digital demos but not for that many games as in the 2000's era . Great video as always i really like the way you review and your sarcasm , can't wait to watch deadlocked and sly 2!!!!

I really was impressed by the game. It was Sucker Punch first attempt in doing such a game. It is short but was enjoyable despite some imperfections. But have to warn you, I recently finished Sly 2 and you will be in for a treat

the sly trilogy is my absolute favorite on the ps2. The 4th part is kinda meh so just enjoy the first three games. I personally like the second game the most but thats just because it was my very first ps2 game

Nah, sly 2 is by far the best

Not sure if it matters at all in retrospect for you, but you do get an additional "true" ending for collecting all the pages of the thevious raccoonus a la collecting all the bottles. It's nothing groundbreaking so much as sly fully coming to terms that he restored his family heirloom and, in doing so, became the master thief he was destined to be on the night he was supposed to inherit the book. It adds a bit more flavor for the overall story but I agree it was pretty scant at best otherwise.

I think I saw the notification for this when it was new, but I was doing something else at the time and forgot about it, and the algorithm didn't show it back to me. The algorithm in general seems to hate this one, which sucks because Sly is my personal favorite of the "big 3" PS2 mascots. It's got by far the strongest character writing of the 3, despite having the worst production value in the cutscenes. The issue where the plot doesn't do a great job connecting the random bullshit you mentioned gets fixed in 2, along with better character writing and plotting in general. Sly 2 was the first time in a video game where I kept playing because I wanted to see what happened next, not just because it was fun, so it'll always have a special place in my heart for that. Of course, playing 2 before 1 as a kid did not help me form many strong connections to this game in particular. Nowadays, I can look back on it as a starting point, but as a kid it was a straight downgrade, and I didn't spend long on it. Even now, I think it's a bit too standard, very obviously aping Crash Bandicoot instead of leaning into what makes Sly unique. But hey, you gotta start somewhere, and they did alright in the grand scheme of things. And they actually learned from their mistakes, which helps the pill of Sly 1's mediocrity go down smooth. Sly 2 is described by many, myself included, as a perfect sequel. Everything that worked in this one is brought forward and improved, and everything that didn't got taken out and replaced with something that better suited those strengths. I hope you enjoy it.
