Hi Chris, missed the last one. Love these music paper reminiscing. I was at a few of those gigs you mentioned, The Skids, The Revillos, got back stage with them at Middlesborough Rock Garden, I think the Banshees were at the Town Hall. Went to see quite a lot of the punk/new wave bands in 79. Gets me all nostalgic going through the NME and Sounds. Thanks Chris.

Hi Chris, loved Sounds and really miss it, would take all week to read it front to back 😂. That Siouxsie/Banshees tour on page 3 still causes me pain, I had a ticket to see them at the Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline (with the Cure no less) and yeh, they cancelled after the infamous bust-up in Aberdeen the previous night. Great video Chris.

Love these Chris! I actually remember having this copy! I hate getting old! Slits needs to be in your collection! 👍 Cliff Richard was always number 1 😴

I used to buy sounds, nme and melody maker weekly. I was only 11 at this stage but as you say imagine being able to go back and see these bands in their pomp. The Banshees join hands tour id definitely have gone to given it all went pear shaped on that tour. A friend of mine maintains 1979 was the best ever year for music and ita hard to argue

I usesd to read Sounds in Wrexham library during lunchtime when I was at VI form college. That was in 89 though!

The Rats had just been knocked off the top by Cliff. But the margins were apparently so close, the Rats stayed at 2 for 2. weeks. 140 extra sales for the Rats would have seen them have 5 weeks at the top,rather than 4. My uncle saw the figures from chart return shops.

Sounds stayed true to the muso side when others followed the trends, hence the explosion of trendy music mags around that time

Was not only a devout Sounds reader, but especially a devout procurer of pretty much any album receiving a 4 or 5 star review from Deaf Geoff Barton, which did unfortunately lead me down a slightly embarrassing nut temporary cul-de-sac of early US heavy metal (Legs Diamond, anyone?). Ref Sammy Hagar in this issue, it has never shifted from my worn out memory cells about the link between his car number plate, IEATZ28, and the track “Trans Am” … it refers to him burning up a Nissan Z28 on the freeway whilst driving said Tans Am muscle car. Funny what your teenage brain retains…
@TheVinylOrchard6 күн бұрын
I used to love Trans Am too! I also collected loads of Geoff Barton recommended dodgy US rock albums. Some I kept! A diamond is a hard rock by Legs Diamond was moved on! 🤣

Missed him then but saw him in Southampton and Portsmouth where he was supports by Riot. Who were very good. SH was always better live than in the studio. Greater singer and proper decent guitarist too

Yeah/that's when Rock magazines were great..In 1979/Bob Marley& The Wailers Were super huge/They played a concert in July /And the promoters were afraid there might be a riot..because Bob was getting LOTS of support for his political views.
