"It's not just individuals in bedrooms anymore... people are coming together online in the hundreds of millions", explains Craig Fletcher, organiser of Insomnia, the world's biggest gaming festival. For many, gaming is a chance to create a new persona, to gain confidence from the relationships forged in an alternate reality, or simply to find an escape. "Gaming has saved my life", explains Sam, who after being paralysed in a motorcycle accident is still able to experience the thrill of biking through video games. Yet gaming also brings many dangers, from years of lost time to a disconnect with reality. "It's dangerous because it's so fun, so you don't really recognise it as being an addiction", admits Morgan.
