Good memories... I actually had the police and fire station from this catalogue. Sure went crazy with hundred of alternate builds!

This is real nostalgia for me. Me and my brother had most sets from the 80. The most from this year. The backhoe and truck were our favorites. Still have a soft spot for the LEGO city theme.

Really great to see the 1984 catalogue again (despite the difference between the European and the US version). Hopefully You'll get fire station 6382 (1981), because it's really worth a good review. So glad my parents gave me this one over more than 30 years ago. Keep on going Jang.

9:20 anyone notice the differential, that`s actually a really good design for one especially back in 1984.

The great thing about LEGO products is that they never stop improving and that has left a lasting impression on kids and adults alike for more than thirty years. That's what I'm talking 'bout!

I really enjoyed this Jang. Don't really have access to something like this myself. (Although I'm sure I could find it if I tried hard enough) but either way, seeing it in video form with your narration is awesome cuz you were alive back then and I wasn't :)

Wow, that sends me back HARD. I think my brother and I had most of the Castle sets. I definitely remember the King's Castle and it's hinges. You could swing that open wide. Good stuff.

I was born back in 1984..... and my first contact with Lego occurred in 1987..... it was a Fabuland set..... loved it. And by the way, the '87 Lego catalogue was much ampler in number and variety of sets than the '84 one, if I remember it right, and as the three years had passed, almost none of the '84 sets survived through to '87. I think that's when the Lego experienced yet another massive growth and development.... the late '80s.

I love vintage sets although I don't have any because they're really expensive! It looks like some of the 80's Town sets are in the LEGO City bonus level of LEGO Star Wars

I really like seeing these old stuff by you :) It doesn't really a nostalgia for me becouse I wasn't born in 80s, but we all know that LEGO is a big company. But in that time, they weren't, and they are just like any other toy company. I like that too :)

I have learned 1984 was the first year the Universal Building Sets were available here in the US. The small 8020 set was the only truly new addition this year, as sets 8030 and 8050 (the latter with the electric motor included) were actually first sold in Europe two years before we got them. The "Technic" label, although it was first used on the Expert Builder line in Europe since 1982, was not adopted by Lego USA until 1986. One of the Euro market sets that didn't make it here was the very large 8090, although it did make it into Canada (at that time they still had a distribution deal with the Canadian arm of Samsonite, which continued there until 1985, as opposed to 1972 for us). 1985 saw the addition of the 8040 Pneumatic set, and then the same year we got the "Technic" series label for the first time, the original 8030 and 8050 sets were replaced by the 8035 and 8055 sets respectively.

Totally agree with you! The book of LEGO ideas that they have now is cool, but it doesn't have what you could do with pieces from specific sets.

So much nostalgia, I can remember that I had set 6030, 6382, 6373, 6971, 6930, 4005, 8020 and 8845. Many of them where so nice. But today sadly all of them are just in pieces and I don't think I can rebuild even one of them as there will be parts missing or even broken.

Why did Cypress trees become so sought after? Is it simply because they were only in a few sets? Lego promotional photos always show dozens of them in the background.

It is strange this information that Technic was not labelled as such before 1984 - I clearly recall getting 894 new in autumn/early winter 1979 and it being called 'Technic' by the person selling it. VERY weird indeed!!! Maybe it was a regional thing or just an informal label before the term stuck officially... I don't know but it is interesting to learn. Maybe its a false memory!
@JANGBRiCKS
@JANGBRiCKS 10 жыл бұрын
Most references I can find indicate that the Technic brand was introduced during calendar year 1984. Box art photos from sets of the time show some with the Technic label on them, some without, so that seems to have been the transitional year.
@morelenmir
@morelenmir 10 жыл бұрын
I believe you Jang! Its just... odd! I clearly recall it being called Technic by my parents, who were worried it would be too complicated for me. SO strange. As I say it could well be a false memory.
