who needs they shrussy ate? 🍄👁👄👁 The FDA just sent a letter out re: Amanita muscaria as I post this video in December 2024, saying "Amanita muscaria, its extracts, and certain constituents (muscimol, ibotenic acid, and muscarine), when used or intended for use in conventional food, are unapproved food additives. Food containing such ingredients is adulterated under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) and are subject to enforcement action.” www.fda.gov/food/post-market-determinations-use-substance-not-gras/letter-industry-use-amanita-muscaria-or-its-constituents-food Here’s some personal commentary: This letter comes as a response to recent situations: the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly on 18 July 2024 (the one from this video when I mentioned Gas Station Mushroom Edibles) and from the “microdose edibles” 2024 recall, also mentioned in the video. In both of those situations, more than just Amanita muscaria chemicals (Ibotenic Acid, Muscimol, Muscarine) were found by laboratory, if they were found at all, in the products. So, if these products were supposed to be Amanita muscaria edibles, but weren’t, then that really sucks that Amanita muscaria is taking the fall for this. Letter aside, from a personal standpoint you should be aware of what the actual Amanita muscaria mushroom’s impact on you can be. Everything that goes into your body has a benefit-to-risk assessment. Be wary of composite products. Be reasonable, take care of yourself, and be well!

I've always loved the science behind Amanita Muscaria. There's an indigenous tribe that figured out that Reindeer don't get sick when eating the raw mushrooms. The ibutenic acid is converted to muscimol as its metabolized and then theyd collect the reindeers urine. After boiling the urine they would consume it for the psychoactive effects while avoiding the negative aspects ibutenic acid.

As a Norwegian we are taught to stay away from the "red fly mushroom" (amanita muscaria/fly agaric)- which is very common in the southern parts of Norway - as it is a known "killer mushroom". We also get to hear about the (apparent myth) that Vikings used to eat these in order to "go berserk".

Respiratory Arrest: Hyperactivation of GABAergic pathways in the medullary respiratory centers reduces sensitivity to hypercapnia (elevated CO₂) and hypoxia (low O₂). This results in central hypoventilation syndrome, progressing to apnea. Cardiac Arrest Mechanism: Secondary to hypoxia, myocardial tissue undergoes anaerobic metabolism, leading to lactic acidosis, intracellular pH reduction, and impaired sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca²⁺ cycling, culminating in ventricular fibrillation or asystole. Ischemic Cascade in Brain Cells: Depletion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) disrupts Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase pumps, causing cytotoxic edema. Excessive glutamate release during hypoxia triggers NMDAR-mediated excitotoxicity, leading to calcium overload in mitochondria. Formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) damages mitochondrial membranes, initiating apoptotic signaling cascades.

Chubbyemu videos are so much fun. The skits are at times absurd and campy, and you learn something about bio/chem/medicine.

I haven't tried it myself, and don't like magic mushrooms (or mushrooms in general), but I've heard that muscimol is more of a disassociative rather than a psychedelic. As in, where magic mushrooms will make you trip and see stuff, you'll be able to have reasonable certainty that it is hallucinations, whereas muscimol will make you trip, but you won't realise you're tripping. See: "angels trumpets" for a flower you've probably seen recently, and an extremely powerful disassociative (which was commonly used by housewives in tea parties). They are deadly at very low doses, but threshold doses will make someone seem hysterical.

Advanced Critical Care Interventions Therapeutic Hypothermia: Reduction of core body temperature to 33-35°C minimizes cytokine-mediated neuroinflammation and preserves BBB integrity by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Targeted Organ Perfusion: Use of vasopressors (e.g., norepinephrine) to counteract hypotension from neurogenic shock, ensuring perfusion pressure in vital organs while managing risks of systemic ischemia. Mechanical Ventilation: Implementation of controlled ventilatory support with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to prevent alveolar collapse during compromised respiratory effort.

Yikes! Aminita muscaria is known for for having unpredictable potency and it's always suggested to be consumed as a tea for this exact reason. He ate the caps! There's really no telling how much muscimol he dosed himself with. 😬

Always get a laugh out of asking anyone who claims that "natural" ingredients cannot harm humans if they would eat deadly nightshade berries or destroying angel toadstools.

I like that you said if you're going to use something as a medicine, treat it as a medicine. Do your research, know what you're getting into, get it from a reputable source, and for the love of god use a proper dosage and don't just take a bunch because you think "taking more will always equal more benefits" because that's not how anything works

We have those growing under our pine trees every year. I know some people trip on them, but people trip on mescaline too, and boy I found that was a mistake, so no, not ingesting the yard shrooms.

Rules of picking wild mushrooms.. if you are not 100% sure, don’t eat it.. you need a minimum of two books for ID, don’t mix mushrooms together, always wipe your knife in between cutting.. and make sure to respect rule no. 1 and get info.. morels are toxic raw! But five stars when cooked ❤

You need to clarify “mushrooms” cus you certainly can. Amanitas are not psychedelic. They are psychoactive but none of the components are the same as psilocybin mushies., AND they have been online and safer than most OTC drugs for decades. More people are harmed from Tylenol than amanitas. More people are harmed from aspirin even. A general dose of amanitas is an eighth to a quarter oz of dried prepped (heated). Psilo is usually safer to start with a gram. Some are wildly strong, like aborts of Golden Teacher. Eat an 1/8th of amanitas and you’re good, you can work. an 1/8th of psilocybin and you need to call off work.

"if it's natural then it can't hurt me" is one of the most ignorant and naive statements i ever heard. shame that this man's belief in that idea caused such a horrible situation, but unfortunately it's his fault for not bothering to do (apparently) any research into what he was doing

If you haven't watched the video mentioned here, in which Joe Rogan interviews Paul Stamets, I highly recommend you to do it. Paul tells the story of this huge biker guy who gets caught in what is known as repetitive motion syndrome after eating amanita pantherina. The person basically becomes a zombie and is helplessly 'forced' to repeat a certain action. Anyway, this biker guy kept climbing some rocks and then proceeded to throw himself off of them. Again, and again, and again. The height wasn't enough to kill him, but he got pretty badly injured. Mushrooms, and their ability to mind-control even complex brains like ours, are immensely scary.
