it's not like its the first time a case has shown you who the murderer is off the bat. Both tutorial cases of aa1 and aa2 reveal the murderer in the opening cutscene, it's not necessarily about the destination, but the journey, in a way. In fact, several cases have the killer confront you before the final trial day, confirming that they're the real criminal. What makes ace attorney cases interesting is the how and why, slowly piecing together the bigger picture and figuring out ways to prove what you already suspect.

@@honkstheclown8631 2-4 is my favorite case because it sets the foundation for De Killer. SPOILERS AHEAD. In Investigations 2, De Killer was on the hunt for Di-Jun Huang's body double for being a disgrace and bringing shame on the De Killer name (also he was contracted by Simon Keyes to kill the real president, only to learn that he was already long dead with the body double running Zheng Fa) and during the attempted assassination at the Gourd Lake meeting in which a man named Ethan Rooke was killed (by a fellow bodyguard of Di-Jun Huang, named Horace Knightley) De Killer saves Edgeworth's investigation and gives him a vital piece of information, that he wasn't who killed Rooke. @crazyminegamer2339 yeah, three out of four of JFA alone's cases wouldn't have been helped by spirit channeling. Hey so, about the whole plothole about why Matt sent you to feed Shoe, there are lots of indicators to say that Matt didn't know that Maya was taken captive in his house. 1: Matt is completely unaware that you were sent as his lawyer by De Killer until you drop his name in conversation, when he suddenly changes his mind about you defending him, 2: De Killer was already feeding Shoe so there would be no reason to send you if he knew this, and 3: Matt doesn't seem to know the specific reason as to why you're forced to defend him until Pearl cries "Mystic Maya" while questioning him, and only after that point does he speak of you losing a friend. So stupid that you know this location by the pure chance of him asking YOU of all people, yes, but I think calling it a plothole is a bit of an overstatement.

Exactly! I always read it like this because not only Matt seems to be unaware of the kidnapping before hearing deKiller's name, it's also not very likely he and deKiller had any communication after the body was found and Matt got arrested, which made deKiller decide to kidnap Maya on his own. And as deKiller isn't actually his butler and is seen to have disguise/alias when in public, it's likely he never took that role in front of Matt and just lied to Phoenix so he would leave. Matt is also clearly full of himself so him making mistakes in his plans because of his ego would also make sense.

One of favorite details of this case is Adrian's and Matt's animations. Every character is this game has quirks and unique animations. Matt already has his "calling" animation quirk, so you think that's all he has. Adrian doesn't have many quirks besides playing with the card, so you think she'll get more when she starts to break down in court, when she is proven guilty. The main story of this game isn't just 'what happened to edgeworth', that's only part of it. Unlike the first game, the main story isn't some big long running plothtead, it is instead more of a character thing. The man story of the second game is one question: "what is Phoenix Wright's identity? what does being a defence attorney mean?" That's why it starts with Pheonix with amnesia, forgetting his identity and slowly regaining who he is, and its why Wellington says that big speech towards the end questioning Phoenix's identity, it's putting the idea to the forefront. In the second case we see phoenix recconnect with old friends, old annoyances and coming into conflict with Maya's past via her evil aunt. Here we see how he as, a lawayer, approaches his friends and the seeming vengaence of someone affected by his actions. In the third case we see how phoenix deals with a client who's not only a strnager and weirdo but is also not entirely innocent, and further shakes up the formula with a killer who is very sympathetic. Its also where its revealed what happened to Edgeworth (seemingly) and how it affects phoenix, making him bitter and lashing out by painting prosecutors in a bad light, making himself feel more justified and primed for the final case where everything is turned on its head. And so, we come to the final case. Here, phoenix is challenged by a client who IS guilty of the crime he's charged with. What will phoenix do? will he fight for a not guilty verdict no matter the cost and thus be no different from the prosecutors he hated and accused them of? Is he only driven by the wellbeing of his friends and not of anyone else? Will he choose a guilty verdict and lose? if he fails, how will it affect him? WHo is phoenix wright, ace attorney? that's the core plot of Justice For All.

In the beginning, Matt didn't even seemed to know that Shelly had a deal with Wright, and Matt only accepted Wright as his lawyer when Wright said "de Killer". It does seem like Matt and De Killer seemed to have limited communication, maybe they have very inconvinent methods of communications to keep De Killer untrackable, and therefore they both aren't on the same page 100% of the time. It could be that Matt only knew about the deal later on without knowing the detail of where Maya was held hostage.

I saw a comment on the vod video about feeding the cat. Their explanation was that it was a taunt. Matt Engarde, so sure of himself to a fault, sent Phoenix to feed his cat to mock him, as Maya was only two doors away. Matt also wanted to reassure his butler that he could still reveal him. I don’t know why everyone was so pent up on this, the real question is why was Grossburg at the boathouse
@KipTM3 жыл бұрын
Well there's also the likelihood that Matt didn't even know that de killer took a hostage to get hire a defense attorney for him as Matt had no clue as to why Phoenix wanted to defend him until he accidentally dropped de killer's name

Matt couldn't "*reassure* his butler that he could still reveal him", since the butler had no idea Matt had that intention until the videotape evidence was brought up. Though, I agree that feeding the cat would definitely work as a way of Matt just playing with Wright. I don't think it was intentional by any means; I think Shoe was quite literally shoehorned in to give a tie-in for "revealing" de Killer's location, but written intention versus read meaning aren't one and the same.

How fitting that the game where the final case is about trying to fight with whether or not you should convict Engarde should be called Justice For All
@burningrabbit72783 жыл бұрын
It fits with every case. Wellington was a scumbag who had it coming, Miney was a grief-stricken sister trying to get revenge on the doctor who killed her sister, Acro was a man only hanging on out of hope his brother would wake up, and Engarde blackmailed you into nearly convicting an innocent woman to save Maya's life.
@sarafontanini70513 жыл бұрын
Personally I still find it more satisfying to say engarde's guilty at the end. Yes it does mean engarde doesn't declare himself guilty out of fear, BUT it does lead to pheonix decalring "I cannot defend a clearly gulty man" and Engarde being in disbelief that after everything he's done to win, his reputation is ruined and his freedom is lost forever.

@worthyedge93073 жыл бұрын
I like the option for not guilty more Nit just because yes it mean that if he possibly doesn't end up getting locked up, de killer will murder tf out of him, but also because I think it fits in another way narritively (both options fit very well narritively). He's so arrogantly seen himself as above or better than others and takes too much advantage of the influence he has and his pride makes him want to constantly lord that over those around him (take a look at his interactions with Phoenix and Pearl for example. He gloats about how much bad stuff he's done and even says "because i can". He puts Wright in a position that makes known to him that he is extremely stuck while Matt can just do whatever he pleases at this point and win). But in the end, those very same characteristics that even brought some to their deaths, turns out to be the largest bite in the ass he could've ever done, as his tendency to lord his power over others pushed him to record de killer so he could lord over the assassin. In doing that, he makes himself a target by that same assassin. Pleading "not guilty" gives him a HUGE "...oh fuck" moment in knowing for a fact that he isn't above others, especially in the moment. He becomes the most weak person in the room and desperately pleads guilty in an attempt to save his own life. It's extremely satisfying to see if you consider all of that lol. And very well put together when you think of how it causes his previous traits and actions to contrast COMPLETELY in every single way how he behaves and what the future may have in store for him lol.

I'm pretty sure in this game and possibly actual Japan, the prosecutor's office is in charge of the police. So the prosecutor gets all the information and also have authority over what the police do and how they do it. It's why the conviction rate is so high.
@koenzuidberg49273 жыл бұрын
The main reason for the high conviction rate is that prosecutors will almost never pick up a case if they aren't 100% sure they can get a conviction
@acat61452 жыл бұрын
I mean there are plenty of other reasons about that as well such as suspects being allowed to be held in custody for 28 days without a lawyer

@@TorrentialStardust potentially? I don’t know if he would be too far our family to be trusted with the handling of Miles’ belongings though. Usually it’s children/parents and siblings? So the mysterious other Von Karma child that gave Manfred a grandchild would potentially have a right to handle Miles’ stuff, but due to their estrangement (we never really see them At All) I would guess they probably wouldn’t volunteer to sort his affairs?

Petty dumb note: Shelly De Killer is not a serial killer, he is a contract killer. Now im not defending his actions by any means, but there is a difference. De Killer takes no personal pride in killing, he takes pride in completing contracts as he states as much. However in another ace attorney game. (Miles Edgeworth investigations 2) He states he dislikes unnecessary killing so its clear that he is indifferent to suffering of others thus making him at the very least a sociopath. That said, he doesn't seem to the exhibit the psychological impulse's or traits exhibited by serial killers. You may bring up the calling card, however that was not started by him as he points out "De Killer" is just a title that multiple people have assumed over the years. So potentially his predecessor may have counted as both a contract/serial killer but this one does not. Thank you for reading my stupid nitpicky complaint about a fictional killers title. Have a great day regardless.

Technically anybody doing multiple separate killings is a serial killer.
@robber2333 жыл бұрын
@@orangesilver8 Not quite. Look up the definitions. For instance Joe Darke from the first game kills multiple people in a short period of time. He wasn't a serial killer despite the games mislabeling of him. Darke would be officially termed as a spree killer. Which is someone who kills at two or more locations with almost no time break between the murders. I hope this didn't come off as hostile or rude that was not the intent.

Realizing that the card at the very end, was in fact the drawing Maya drew while she was kidnapped to cheer herself up, after seeing this fight for Maya’s life and the emotional moments that ensued, was the tipping point that had me emotional.
