A lovely commentary on emptiness and our culture of anxiety. It is so difficult to be a part of our culture. family, work, friends and see the belief in our own ego driven work. To operate from a state of spontaneous love, and humour is my life's work, and I will continue to look quietly into my own illusions and that of my family and co-workers. This reminds me of a feeling I had when I was a little child, before the world set in to comlicate things. Peace and Joy to all. Roy

Thank you! Because of you I looked up "Emaho" and found this: "The Sanskrit word emaho (pronounced ay-mah-ho) is an expression of joy and wonder, and an invocation for auspiciousness." I have been more than a little interested in Sanskrit for a few years now. I can't read it except for about 20 words that are popular in spirituality. I can recognize most of the letters for what sounds they make and even most of the little symbols or changes to the consonant syllable characters which signify different vowel sounds. It's a lot like Japanese, which I'm also interested in. The "letters" are actually syllables. Like instead of spelling "no" with two letters 'N' and 'O', there's a symbol for the whole syllable: "no" and to change the vowel sounds the are little marks on, or changes to the symbol to make it into "Ni" or "Nu", etc. I don't even know why I'm explaining all that. I just really love Sanskrit i guess. Well technically it's the alphabet "Devanagari" I'm taking about. Sanskrit an ancient language but Devanagari is only one of the more recent scripts used in India still today. Ok haha. Anyway, just thanks. Emaho, Jai, Namaste, and Hari Om Tat Sat. Maitri and Metta.

@@otterrivers3765 me too! Really find sanskrit to be beautiful language. I have noticed some similarities between finnish and sanskrit. Structure and sound is little bit similar in japanese, sanskrit and finnish atleast. (yes, finnish is not even in indo-european language family). I think it really important to learn these words, if you are studying hindu scriptures and philosophy. I have memorized many mantras and even first chapter of yoga sutras (good training for the memory and concentration 😁). Here are hymns of ancient finnish. There are many similar sounding words, but i just put first hymn of the Kalevala here for you to get some idea of finnish. 😁 "Mieleni minun tekevi, aivoni ajattelevi, lähteäni laulamahan, saa'ani sanelemahan, sukuvirttä suoltamahan, lajivirttä laulamahan. An hour ago there arose a feeling in the chest. My mind calls it anxiety. The doctors call it generalised anxiety disorder. It appears, as I have realised, dependent on how the thinking mind looks at what happens or when something has to be done. The feeling, the sensation frightens the mind. I have to do something with it, it has to go, I don't like it (the content of thoughts). When detaching from the "thinking" I looked at the sensation in the chest. In direct experience I could not find anything. There was a vividness, a presence. It was although not something solid, it was not in the chest. I did not find the "thing" that the thinking mind sees as a problem. It is totally hollow. Hollow but still present. Is anxiety empty of being anxiety? After a while it disappeared.

Wonderful! A clear seeing into the sheer emptiness of the emotions and thoughts. Keep looking, keep investigating, keep questioning your assumptions about these so-called solid and fixed phenomena. You are on the right track my friend. When you pierce to the core with your silent, clear mind you will see that in reality these emotions are truly non-existent (as you have seen already). They are apparent without truly existing. Emaho!

Extazius I also experience much of what we call "pain" and "anxiety". You are right. This teaching does indeed help! Just don't get discouraged if you find yourself seeming to suffer from feelings of anxiety again. It takes some dedication to look again and find relief again. Each time we have to overcome this unconscious inertia inside which seems to actually enjoy the suffering and shun relief. It's easy to think "I tried this spiritual approach and it seemed to work, but here I am still suffering. It must be a bunch of hippie nonsesne." It's sort of natural for us to think that our previous seeing should prevent this suffering from happening again, but it has to be seen again now. Always now.. And that takes dedication. It's like they say in the 12 step addiction recovery program: "It works if you work it". I promise I'm not speaking down to you from up high. Just sharing my experience and hoping it is of value. Really this is a letter to myself. I am just telling you what I need to hear. 😇💟

@@otterrivers3765 Hello 😊 in my opinion the "problem" comes when there is a wish or expectation that some kind of "unpleasant" sensations and feelings like anxiety should stop. It is, I think, a natural reaction - after seeing clearly that this sensations and feelings are in fact empty of any soort of inherent and real existence - to wish that they dont occur again. Our thinking mind has evolved to see such feelings as "danger' (anxiety when detected "switches on" the whole system on alert) as an "information" that there is some kind of threat in the environment around the body that has to be dealt with. In reality although it is clear that such danger isn't present most of the time. We live today in a society where each day our body/mind organism is confronted with a high number of stimuli to proces. Sometimes even a thought regarding something that has to be done is enough to "overload" the organism and triggers anxiety. Anxiety is a natural and useful reaction that has helped our organism to evolve and become what it is today. The "issue" is that today an anxious reaction is very often triggered without there being a real danger. The thinking mind than starts to look for the reason for this anxiety in the environment around the body. Due to not finding anything it keeps looking (sometimes even creating new triggers) to find something and to deal with it. The thinking mind only wants for the anxiety to be gone (as it is perceived as a danger). Thoughts about the unpleasantness of the sensation arise. This is also just a normal response. The thinking mind does only its job. Instead of following this arising of reactions the best thing is to "detach" from the thinking mind, come in to the present and be with the feeling the thinking mind sees as something to push away and as a danger. It becomes clear that the feeling is a sensation. It is not a solid thing. It is hollow and it is not dangerous. Even stronger it is in itself not unpleasant. The descriptions attributed by the thinking mind to the sensation are not present in the felt sensation itself. The thinking mind (thoughts and thoughts) are also not feeling anything. Both appearances (the sensation and the thoughts) are experienced. As one appearance (a thought) can not experience another appearance (a sensation) it becomes clear that the whole construct is like the experience of a mirage (it is clearly present but it is not what it seems to be). It is totally hollow. These are empty appearances. This although does not mean that these experiences will stop or not occur again. They will arise again but instead of going with the stories of the thinking mind where a seeming independent real subject is threatened by a seemingly real object we come back in this moment (the only reality there exist) and just let the sensation be. By not falling into the deluded outlook of the thoughts that arise the sensation will soon "disappear ". Sometimes I feel this type of reactions (like anxiety) are like a gift. There is no other choice but use them as a moment to practice what we have learned and use them as tools to "wake up from samsara". 🙏❤

Can someone please give a more concise and detailed explanation of actual emptiness, what it is, and how it ends one’s personal conflict and suffering? Much appreciated.
@SamaneriJayasara3 жыл бұрын
Emptiness is the actual Reality of all and everything in phenomenal existence. This is a scientific fact. The problem is that we are deluded in not knowing or recognizing this fact so we cling to things - objects, self, other people - as being concrete, separate discrete entities, and unchanging. However, when we see deeply with insight and intuitive wisdom (not just through an intellectual understanding) the substanceless nature of all phenomena, it is a liberating and blissful awakening. We are released from ego clinging, fixation, dualistic perception, and suffering. However, this has to be experienced for oneself - me telling you this is not going to end your suffering. Keep looking on within with wisdom and ease and allow your true nature to shine through, as and when it will. As Nagarjuna says: Emptiness liberates one from all conceptual views. But those who conceptualize emptiness will fail to realize liberation.
